Conspiracy take: Breslow wants good deadline PR but no deals are coming.
Alternate conspiracy: Breslow is going to sell at the deadline and wants to extend Cora first.

This would make me feel more comfortable about the direction. I wonder if it's an indication for the deadline approach. Alex has been very vocal

I know we all have our gripes about AC from time to time but I genuinely believe he’s one of the few managers that can make a difference. His two postseasons in Boston were nearly flawless. This would be great for the young guys’ development too IMO.

Also: seems pretty clear that Cora has bought into Craig's plan (for this season and the future)
The trade deadline this year will be interesting

I’m good taking this at face value - Breslow wanted to work with Cora first before committing to him long term. Now that he thinks they work well together he’s making sure to get his guy locked up.

I was kinda skeptical of the Cora to Yankees/Dodgers buzz and was wondering if that had been coming from his camp as a posturing tool for the winter - did not think they would actually get something done mid-year

Oh yeah I agree with this my post was in jest. I also think Cora probably wanted to see how they worked together before committing too.

Maybe I'm over reading this but..
I'm assuming with coras recent frustrations the last couple of seasons and likely ability to walk to any open job avail (plus top/near top of the league salary) this must mean him and Henry had an extensive conversations about them truly turning a corner soon (whether it be at the deadline/this offseason or both).
That's not to say they should/will deal off that top layer in prospects (mayer/teel/anthony/lesser extent campbell) but actually truly target elite talents in FA (burns?), trade off 2nd layer prospects if needed (bleis, yorke etc) and actually fill out holes when needed.

Great news if it comes to pass. While not quite to the same extent it would take away that feeling that was there when the Patriots were going after a Suoer Bowl championship in 1997 but all anybody could talk about was Bill Parcells getting ready to leave.
Getting this done would take that weight off the season, make the players happy, and help entice free agents to consider Boston as I believe that Cora, other than Verdugo, is pretty well liked by players.
And it also gives the impression that the Sox are retaining talent because I honestly think that Cora is one of the best managers in the game.

Perfect thing to fall back on if your moves underwhelm at the deadline. Bravo Breslow

It’s kinda funny that various local media and beat-writers have been steadfastly predicting Cora would leave for months on end, and of course the news breaks via Jeff Passan

This is excellent news. Cora has maybe done his best job this year. I was concerned that everything that seemed to be finally going in the right direction was going to be derailed. He handles youngsters and vets both well. He is bilingual. He understands Boston.
I was not thrilled with the possibility of bringing in a new guy for 2025. This is great news, and it is well deserved.

Clearly Craig told him they’re ready to give Soto a blank check and asked Cora if he wanted one of his own

You don't think he'd get that from the Yankees if Boone is out or the dodgers if they fail early again etc? Now maybe he didn't want to take his chances of a better opportunity presenting itself but I don't think he would have stuck around JUST because of that deal without some assurance that boston really planned on competing for world championships going foward.

I do think Cora is overall a good manager and one who has succeeded in the pressure cooker of an environment of Boston so if a deal gets done I think that would be good news. At this point it still sounds like an if not a when so until something concrete comes down I will not get my hopes up too much.

Was a big fan AC but my fandom started to wain when i saw some of the moves he made and hated the fact that he was solidly behind fatse, but then I started to think of all the misfortune he had to deal with throughout the year and especially the loss of Story. that messed the up the whole lineup and it is still a patchwork mix and match and he has done a stellar job overall with what he has to work with. Gialito was a big loss and Murphy in the bullpen caused a shakeup there. through all that he has gotten us into 3rd place in the division and that can't be discounted with a chance at a playoff which nobody anywhere would have predicted.
I am strongly back on the Cora train. Lets get er done.
P.S. I still don't like Fatse.
