I hope it's not a recurrence of the infection... that stuff can be nasty.

Joely is back, Weissert optioned No reasonable excuse for this. DFA? Yeah, that guy has no buisness being on the Sox roster..period and another example of why continue posting about nonsenser moves made by the Sox FO, which bizarre would be way too polite. Weissert was not DFA’d. He was optioned. Clearly the team doesn’t like what they’ve seen from him lately. Only pitched a couple times since being called back up and pitched maybe 4 times in Woo before that. I will say Joely has looked better lately down in AAA so hopefully he found something.

I hope it's not a recurrence of the infection... that stuff can be nasty. I hope not. He hasn’t looked very good at all since he got back, so imaginably they’re playing it safe with him especially seeing they have 15 games in 14 days. Wouldn’t be surprised if Cora gives some rest to other regulars this weekend as well to prevent burnout.

As far as if this season is still a success if they win 88+ and dont make the playoffs.
Hell yes it's a success, this team is fun, likeable, has speed, power and a long lineup of pro hitters. They are too young, confident and team first that they don't realize they're expected to keep losing when the mediots say theyre done. Speaking of the mediots, I heard two separate WEEI "personalities" say this team would win less than 50 games before the season began. They were pushing for a tank job to get high draft pics. Not to mention the reports from Spring Training about a clubhouse full of malcontents and cancers begging for trades.
This season has already separated a lot of the wheat from the chaffe. We have a pretty good idea who's a value to next year's team and beyond. This season has also had great moments even from the bullpen with Kenley calling for the ball, and Bernie's strikeout of Alvarez. Thats not even mentioning the highlight real that has come from the CF defense from both Ceddanne and Duran. Lots of learning experiences too for all the kids. And And... Raffy having one of his best seasons both at the plate and in the field. I feel like I could go on and on, Mesa, Cutter, Houck, Abreu, Martin, Duran ... David freakin Hamilton, Dom "may he RIP" Smith.
This year has been a pleasure as a fan

www.bostonherald.com/2024/08/23/ex-red-sox-target-jordan-montgomery-says-boras-kind-of-butchered-his-free-agency/I guess we’ll never know what would have happened if Jordan Montgomery had a normal spring training (and off-season?). He was the second best pitcher on the team that won the World Series like 10 months ago - and now he’s a garbage time arm There was a report via Jon Heyman (I believe after Monty had already fired Boras) that Monty allegedly didn’t want to go the Red Sox because he wanted a”winning team”. I’m actually kinda curious now if that is actually true, or if that’s Boras spin to justify botching things. “I didn’t actually negotiate badly - Jordan just didn’t want to go those loser Red Sox!”

I can’t remember any of his clients publicly saying in very clear terms that he screwed up.

It was something with his finger “Fourth finger inflammation” - maybe he jammed it or something during BP? Just weird

Alex Speier reported at a certain point - duing spring training, I think it was - that the Red Sox would be interested in Montgomery if his cost fell to roughly what Giolito got. What Montgomery ended up getting from Arizona was better than that, albeit not by much.
(It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Red Sox would have signed him for a somewhat higher price than that earlier in the offseason, before they filled out their roster and saw their own guys in spring training.)

Does anyone know where to look up Bello's stats with guys on vs bases empty? Seems like he can't (or won't) throw strikes after giving up a hit or two

Hamilton un-BABIP'ed that for Bello. Much needed.
Edit: And then Devers squares the BABIP ledger.
LFG.
