Absolutely don't change the right side of the OL. Wallace is their extra OL guy in jumbo packages, let Lowe and Okorafor battle for LT. Is it surprising he struggles when you just moved him there a few weeks ago?
If you get to the point where one spot is a weakness you can work on that and game plan around it. Let's be frank, Okorafor was never a high end starter at RT. Onwenu has been a darn good RT.
My worry is that the interior OL versus a better defense. That D was horrible last year and a lot of other teams have talent at DE and DT.
Another interesting thing that I thought watching live and backed up by snap count was about 50% third safety. Will be interesting to see if that's a match up type thing or a switch from last year.

Maye and Penix the big winners from the rookie QBs so far. Long way to go (and two games barely started), but makes me laugh a little to see Nix and Daniels playing exactly like who we thought they were in early going. 13-23 and a combined 66 yards. Now THAT'S what I call dink and dunk. Daniels was fine for a rookie on the road: 94 Passer rating plus another 88 yards on the ground. He looks like a keeper, or better. He also looks very slender.

Yeah and Caleb Williams didn't even have a 100 yards either. It's why you sit the QB till you get everything else figured out. I don't see how this helps any of these young QBs. Chicago has a million weapons tho. Does their o-line stink? Last week Bill, with Michael Lombardi, broke down tape of the rookie QBs. CW looked entirely unprepared to read an NFL defense. (Drake too). Have a look:

Bill is notoriously hard on a player's tape ("humble pie") but I've yet to hear a player complain he was ever biased or unfair about it. Rookies tend to make more bad plays than vets; Bill hates bad plays.

Watson’s fall off has been remarkable. First Brissett was better than him when he was in Cleveland- not by just a little bit either. Jacoby was clearly the better player. Now we may see Winston over him by the years end Bro was getting nuru massaged out of his goddamn mind after every game, it was sheer lust that drove him to be good. Since he couldn't contain himself and moved past paid professionals and started sexually assaulting women who were unaware of his perverse proclivities, he got nabbed for being freaky and had to dial down. I think he could, and should, probably still be pretty good at the Interstate Penitentiary Games.

Again, we all agree on what SHOULD happen. Just wondering if they WILL make a change given what we saw for much of camp (that, admittedly, perplexed us).

Jayden Daniels line is exactly why I wasn't high on him. 60% of his passing yards were dump downs to RBs, over 100 yards. Tops on team in rushing attempts. No passing TDs, but two Rushing. 7 first downs with arm, 8 with legs. Only one more completion than rushing attempt. Will be a miracle if he last the season without a major injury and going forward every team with crowd the box playing the run and passes to RBs.

They better not, I don’t know why you’d change the right side at all. Don't disagree with what SHOULD happen. Just considering: 1. How much they "insisted" on Ownenu at RG before the last stretch of camp 2. The team not wanting to "give up" on Chuks. 3. If it's truly the "best 5", then Chuks probably has more "talent" than Michael Jordan Personally, I hope you're right. Just saying I could see them go in that direction. Related: I wonder how much of the insistence of Onwenu at RG is about a future where they see a new LT next year with Wallace at RT. Get the rest of the line "locked into place" and just add the one (albeit critical) piece. Not suggesting it's the right call. Like others, trying to figure out why they were forcing Onwenu at RG when he was clearly the best RT option they had. Jordan played all 65 snaps at LG (along with Mike at RT and Layden & Andrews at their spots), Lowe straight replaced Chuks at RT after 12 snaps, while Wallace had 18 in his 6th OL role. I have no idea why it took so long but it appears they've finally realized at least for 2025 keeping Onwenu outside is best for the team (thanks Layden Robinson!). But they were willing to start and stick with the practice squad elevated guy for 100% of the snaps at LG and Sow or even Strange may be back soon so I hope we're done with that shuffle. Mike may not quite have the agility you want in space for pass protection but he's a mauler in the run game and Stevenson running behind him & Layden & occasionally Cayden should be our identity regardless of QB. Defensively we all saw those flashes but Keion White living up to the hype is great, and for an under the radar guy Jaylinn Hawkins continues to impress me. I was hoping for a Marte Mapu breakout, but if Peppers and Dugger are healthy they're every down players and better up in the box than Mapu. Hawkins can play over the top, that gives us a ton of versatility if he can play the McCourty role and let those two beasts cover TE's and support the run as their primary responsibility.

Is Jaylinn Hawkins good in coverage? In 2022 he played FS full-time and wasn't good. Horrible QB rating, 4 TDs allowed and a PFF grade of 59.8. Maybe they can work some magic and maximize his talent and minimize his weaknesses.

I'll only ask did they really "finally realize" or were they forced into the decision because of the injury to Lowe? Up until that injury, they were doing whatever it took to keep Onwenu inside, despite him clearly being the best RT on the team. So the question we have been trying to answer is "why?".
And though I've pushed it further than I intended, I'm now asking if the answer to that question impacts their decision making go forward. Despite yesterday's win, I still believe much of their motivation is what's best for NEXT YEAR's (and beyond) team. Is THAT why they were keeping Onwenu inside? IF so, will it play into their decision making this year?
All of the points that have been brought up are spot on BUT not really addressing the point (maybe it's my inability to convey my point that's taking this down the path it has). We're all, seemingly, in agreement on what's best for the OL THIS year. But, as with most of their decision making, is that what they are focused on?

Add in Sow and Strange when he gets back, if you're thinking long-term, yeah it seems Onwenu at RT. Wallace likely a swing guy or LT if we get lucky. I do think what you said about best 5 was true early in year, they wanted to make Robinson earn it and at least it seems Mayo thinks he did.

Maybe it is all about Robinson. That would explain it. Just feels like there were other ways to push that without removing your best RT from that spot (until injuries).
Gonna make me a lot happier if Wallace can figure out LT. As a 3rd Rd pick, my guess is that he'll be given EVERY chance to be in the top 5 within the next 2 years. As we see in all sports, that cache often equates to opportunity (earned or not).

Maybe they can work some magic and maximize his talent and minimize his weaknesses. Yes I know about the poor grades in Atlanta, hence why I was impressed with how he looked for us here in 2024, and he wouldn't be the first cast off DB we've maximized with better scheming or the first young free safety who needed to learn how to play that role. But we'll see going forward, not gonna pretend I studied the All-22 and maybe there were openings a Bengals team missing Tee Higgins that never plays it's starters in the preseason would exploit in Week 10 but not Week 1, looks like PFF still doesn't love him in 2024. (But that role also seems tough to grade without knowing the defensive call.) I also agree the Onwenu move is solidifed by Layden Robinson's emergence. We all understandably focused on the Wallace pick because he was a round earlier and we have that gaping hole at LT while Robinson felt like a weird pick at a position we had several decent options and then he never ran with the starters until late in preseason, but Robinson was always more NFL ready and maybe they just picked another guard in the draft because they felt like this one could be a really good guard, there's worse ways to use a 4th round pick.

I didn’t love the pick for the Colts, but Richardson is a different kind of insanity. He’s a freak. He has zero experience and no polish, he looks like one of those guys a team would sign that previously played Rugby or something. But he’s an absolute monster of a man. I’d never take him in the first round, but I’d take in the second round all day. I guess what I’m saying is that guys like Daniels are high floor, low ceiling and Richardson is the exact opposite. Gun to my head, I’d play Richardson.

Last point on the Onwenu discussion is that I'd be surprised if the Patriots are looking at Wallace's potential outcomes being limited to LT or Swing T. MOST teams want a 3rd Rd pick to provide a more significant ROI than as a backup OL (even if that's his most likely future). I'm going to be shocked if they don't give him a chance to be a starting RT (should LT not work out).
Whether that's the right call or not is largely irrelevant.
But to UMass point, it's quite possible the decisions they have made were NOT about setting that up now so we may very well be saved from seeing them force that this year UNTIL/UNLESS Wallace becomes a guy you HAVE to start.

Is Barmore’s injury career threatening?
I haven’t seen much news on it, and I wasn’t locked in on Patriots yet when it happened.

Robinson was next pick in draft, basically a top 100 pick. So Wallace at RT makes him not have a position. Now if Wallace develops into a good RT that's a good problem to have. Let's face facts though, they had to take an OT literally just for depth reasons. Also as a swing OT with everyone healthy he played 28% of the snaps given the system they run. So that's getting value and the running game was darn good, especially given the lack of downfield throws with Bengals crowding the Box all game. It's just a very high bar for him to be better than Onwenu and per Mayo Robinson has a chance to be special.
I think we can all agree, if we get to a point where we have too many starting caliber OL guys that's a good problem to have. Truth is Wallace didn't displace Okorafor at RT after Lowe took over LT. When Lowe went Down it wasn't keep Onwenu at RG with Wallace at RT, it was Robinson at RG. That's not good given Wallace is the older more experienced player.
You should never be messing with a high-end RT to maybe slightly increase the OG play.

Trey Smith had blood clots in his lungs while in college. He missed a year then came back the next year and was named All SEC 1st team.
