One positive - Richard Fitts. Pencil him in as a starter next year. Bello, Houck, Fitts, Crawford. We just need a #1. More - Guerrero looks like he belongs. Winck, Weissert, Sims all looked good. Story looks like he is finding his swing. Jarren had a pretty good game. That's about it. As I never expected this years team to be competitive this season has me genuinely very excited about next year. The young pitchers have all had encouraging seasons. Giolito coming back. Story, Casas and Grissom hopefully completely healthy. One of more of the big three-four making the leap. And even aside from the top four the system is loaded with high ceiling prospects. I'm in agreement here. For all of the buzz - well deserved - around the position players, the ability to finally identify, acquire, and promote pitching talent is the big takeaway for me. More promising than it's been in a while.

Does Cora ever reflect to think maybe this is one of the reasons his teams run out of steam every summer?

Xander most famously played through a wrist injury in 2017, had the worst season of his career, and later said he probably should have just gone on the IL.

What is the latest on the weather/delay? Is rain supposed to reduce/move out? any estimated start time?

More promising than it's been in a while. They seem to be right on the cusp of being a fantastic team for a long time. It's been pointed out that a five to six game difference could easily have been in the cards for this team. That would have put them on the cusp of the playoffs. Once again, injuries didn't help. The real difficulty for the front office will be figuring out which parts of the roster they can swap and for what. There's a talent issue they need to resolve, and a lot of conjecture on the board about how to do it.

I'm not buying the just struggling part. Maybe Devers wasn't leveling with Cora but I don't buy it. It's a shame that Campbell has a minor lat issue, we could have seen his debut. See, and even worse, both shoulders. Cora lied. www.mlb.com/news/rafael-devers-likely-out-for-season-with-shoulder-injuryI'm also not buying into Devers (or Xander) doing any great thing by playing through something. That's horseshit, playing below replacement hurts the team, that's NOT setting a good example.

It's one among a litany of reasons I didn't really want Cora back, we need a culture change among other things... but he's re-signed, and I doubt they cut bait at least until a year or two into the extension. Anyways, for tank purposes, the Reds lost which is great, puts them just a game ahead of us. Rays are beating the Blue Jays, fine with that either way. Giants are up 3-0 on the Marlins, if that continues, we'll be a half game back of them. Rangers play the Mariners later so go Rangers, Cardinals play the Guardians so go Cardinals. edit: 9-0 Giants over the Royals... does anybody want to win these wildcard spots lol.

Quite a race (that we are not in) - I just watched our old friend Bazardo finish up a Seattle win. So -
KC 82-73 - +.5 for WC - 1 home San Fran, 3 at DC, 3 at Atl. 75% chance Minn 81-73 (huge two games for them tomorrow) - in for WC - 2 at Bos, 3 home Miami, 3 home Balt. 75% chance. Det 81-74 - -0.5 - 1 at Balt, 3 home Tampa, 3 home White Sox 40% chance. Sea 80-75 - -1.5 - 1 at Texas, 3 at Houston, 3 home Oakland 10% chance.

I didnt think KC or Minnesota was unbeatable so I really thought the Sox were going to make it.

My opinion is for the past three years Cora has managed to get the team to over perform during the first half and inevitably the team runs out of gas. It's just hard when every night is a battle and the team really isn't that good.

Those 3 games at Houston will be tough, but they have the arms - and their offense has fired up with the management and hitting coach changes there.

It's just hard when every night is a battle and the team really isn't that good. And in all these years he hasn't adjusted his strategy, prioritized rest, found different ways to win... Just shrugged his shoulders.

We could finish the day with anywhere from the #8 to the #14 draft slot.

It really is sad how many years recently we've said "well they need take advantage of this draft because they won't be drafting this early again for a while."
I don't mean that having multiple losing seasons is unacceptable, that happens to every team; it's how seemingly close to being competitive the team has been, but then every (non 2021) year...

I don't mean that having multiple losing seasons is unacceptable, that happens to every team; it's how seemingly close to being competitive the team has been, but then every (non 2021) year... The problem is the lack of top end talent. Yeah, in Worcester the Sox have 4 guys who could be in that category. Yeah they have Duran and Houck who are both enjoying career years and they have Devers and Casas who are pretty damn good players. That’s good enough to get them to .500. But what they need is an influx of top end talent asap. They cannot tell us in good faith that they are trying to compete in 2025 and not secure a top end starter. They absolutely have to go out and sign Snell Fried or Burnes. That has to happen or just be honest with everyone and trade guys who aren’t part of the future plans for prospects that will be.

I tried to blow off yesterday's game by going out but appear to be thwarted. Good double dent in the recliner today, I guess.
