I can attest...having been a fan from 1975 to 2004, which was decades of frustration. you go through the bad, to get to the good. and never take for granted that there is another game to watch, with the community of people that you get to share the good and bad with. I started really watching in 80 @ 3 years old, and can agree. I ended up staying home from school in 86 after they lost. It was emotional sabotage. I had a pennant for that 86 team on my wall as a kid that stayed there until I moved out of the house, my family recorded the series on our VCR, and we watched it every year after as some bizarre form of penance. My 7th grade teacher. Mr. Zettervall was Sox fan. During the playoff game, he either let us watch or listen (can't remember) the '78 playoff game (must have been after classes end). Mind you, i grew up in upstate NY. it was devastating. And in '86, i was in college amongst a sea of Mets fans and I thought, rightfully so, that is was over. I coiuld never understand why all the bad luck, until 2004. It all made sense and made it worth it.

Good on you guys for still being here. Monday's game killed so much of my enthusiasm for this season and I haven't been able to bring myself to watch since then. Judging from the scoreboard that might have been a decent decision though lol I can attest...having been a fan from 1975 to 2004, which was decades of frustration. you go through the bad, to get to the good. and never take for granted that there is another game to watch, with the community of people that you get to share the good and bad with.

and i do think it wasn't for lack of trying. But every trade doesn't also have to be for this season. It was a very active deadline. I just wonder if he has the stones to go big, and i freely admit that statement has some bias in it. One other question, maybe the front office just assessed that this team isn’t that good and isn’t worth spending the prospect capital? You obviously don’t want to broadcast that, but we probably needed 2-3 starters and 1 wasn’t worth getting us closer to no-man’s land and that's true, but the trade deadline is when teams get desperate (see Angels). All I am trying to say is that it could be a great time to spend prospect capital for future success. If we agree you need 2-3 starters, then would trading your positional capital help equalize that. just a thought.

And I'm sure every player wanted them to trade whatever it would have taken to get Scherzer and Verlander. Which is great, they want to win, and it's not their job to care about the farm system or future seasons. But the GM does have to care about that stuff, and weigh it against a 30% playoff chance or whatever. We could have had a trade deadline like the Angels… I think we just didn’t match up for any trades and that’s fine. Just unfortunate we couldn’t sell anything and i do think it wasn't for lack of trying. But every trade doesn't also have to be for this season. It was a very active deadline. I just wonder if he has the stones to go big, and i freely admit that statement has some bias in it.

It is interesting how critical Youk is of the FO. I wonder if any of that comes from conversations with current players? No, it's just standard practice for ex-Red Sox to trash their front office in a way no other team has to deal with. it isn't like the Sox FO hasn't trashed people on the way out as well. He is just saying what everyone knows. He threw in qualifiers acknowledging he has never been that position. I am one consumer who appreciates the intellectual honesty. This is tough to watch, but here I and others are.

This team was never very good. I never viewed them as very good. But now that they are above the Yankees, I will consider this season a success if they can finish above the Yankees and keep them in last place(bonus if the Yankees finish sub-.500). That’s all I’m left to hope for at this point. sure, but they were just 2.5 out a week ago. There are falling now at a precipitous rate, it is getting very ugly.

that is a lot easier thing to do when you aren't a native NE'er. I don't follow basketball or hockey anymore, but full disclosure, I am a Dolphins fan (that ought to win the hearts and minds of some around here). Even more full disclosure, I grew up a Lakers and Canadiens fan. Double LOL. But, thanking my maker everyday, I only really care about the Sox anymore. Although Marino was a better QB than Brady, that much I am certain of. Well if you are a Marino fan you must love watching the Sox right now you will get the same result at the end of the year. Wait until next year. It will be better next year. for sure, he lacked something that was special about Brady. But, he threw it like he was a Greek God and I loved watching it.

It is interesting how critical Youk is of the FO. I wonder if any of that comes from conversations with current players? or it comes from anyone with a brain (starting pitching). ha. I may have to check myself, there is a possibility of going off the rails. but really, when your Opening day starter was Corey Kluber, well, that wasn't too inspiring

who are the hardcore fans that are gonna watch and root for your boys today ? lol. Feels like overtime (with no pay), but I will stay on as long as I can. When you don’t care about the Celtics or Bruins and rarely get to watch the Patriots due to blackouts, you ride the Red Sox into the ground every year. And that’s what I plan to do! that is a lot easier thing to do when you aren't a native NE'er. If someone dropped into this thread with no sense of the standings they’d immediately think the Red Sox were one of the worst teams in baseball. The fact is this team is pretty close to qualifying for the playoffs, and is two starting pitchers away from being very capable of winning it all. Was it a mistake to go into the season relying so heavily on pitchers with significant injury concerns? When it comes to Sale and Whitlock, probably; but Paxton - no. A full season of Story, a MLB-adjusted Casas, Houck doesn’t take a liner to the face ; and we are in a much better position. Kutter Crawford is a legit backend starter, y’all. Wong is a legit big league catcher. These are big developments from this year. The other good news is that the system took some more strides this year and we have multiple opportunities to upgrade pitching via signing or trade. i can easily understand this post, but there isn't a baseball team that won't face adversity over 162 games. So what you are discussing is true, but it is also baked in to W-L records for most seasons. What has not come to fruition is that the major league team's success this year that was indicated, in some ways, by the FO prior to the season starting. And along those lines, you can't just point to the bad luck. Because there has been a lot of bad performance. And this is probably why we are where we are. The defense, the offense disappearing, the SP taking it's hits. Just not a good enough team to overcome that stuff.

Story is incredibly smooth at SS. I will be fine with the whole thing, as long as he can be a league average hitter at the position. He must hit some, or it won't matter.
