I read on mlbtr a guy ranked from 11 to 20 and a guy ranked 21 to 30 would get Frazier As much I think Frazier would be helpful for us, that is about all I'd want to give up. After what Devers did on "Opening Night" for himself in AAA, I'm becoming more and more torn. I would absolutely hate giving up a prospect like Chavis for a 2 1/2 month rental.

If Perry does end up signing, that means at some point we need to get him, Scherff, Beau Hanna, and possibly even Schellenger and Thompson onto the GCL roster. Injuries and other moves are obviously a huge possibility, but is there anyone looking at an early promotion to Lowell? Hanna is already on the GCL roster

The bottom line is that with Isaiah, Smart, and Bradley all with only one year more of control...it was better to get a cheap "BIG" who is controllable for a couple of years who can give them a solid 10 to 15 minutes per night...rather than get nothing. Their line-up will get bigger at the 2nd guard at times depending on the matchup. Hayward can actually defense some 2's, and Brown will also take up some of the slack.
Hate to see Bradley go as his perimeter defense was outstanding. But with Isiah on the floor, Bradley often was placed in a post-up situation himself. Our guards were too often in this situation. Bradley was going to get BIG money after next season. IMO if you were committed to Isiah going forward, Bradley was the one to go.

Arnold was a 2017 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American Southeast - All Region 2nd Team and he was the number 1 ranked 3B in Georgia. He had a 3.83 GPA and had committed to college. He well might be a find. Thanks Danr. I just don't understand how he wasn't drafted!

I like 10 AM starts!! The GCL game was interesting. They played in the stadium. Let me start by asking who is Jecorrah Arnold?? I really liked what I saw with this kid. 18 year old kid shortstop with some tools. Maybe my eyes were fooled, but this kid has a great build 6'1" 190+, good foot work, solid accurate arm, and decent bat speed. I never have seen the name, but I walked away quite impressed with his defense, arm, legs, and even the bat. Keep the name in mind.
Other thoughts: 1) Esplin may be a player. IMO he needs to lose 10 to 15 pounds, but he moved well. His double off a decent left-hander was a shot over the head of the right fielder. He hustled all day in the field and on the base paths. He was the 1st out of the dugout after a 3rd out. He is a big kid, listed at 6'3" and 230. He showed some patience and a good arm. 2) Dalbec better hope he can turn it on. Loved his foot work and arm at 3rd. Struck out twice. One on a real poor breaking ball up, and a fastball he missed later. Bobby is one of my favorite players in the system, but not sure he will ever make enough contact. 3) Marrero has a real good arm, and looked good behind the plate. And a homer! 4) my last opinion is hopefully all wrong. Cole Brannen did not start, and seemed to be not engaged. How can a kid with 2 weeks of professional baseball not be involved. I get it that he wasn't starting, but when the players were paired and throwing to each other he threw lollipops while everyone else were stepping towards their partner and putting effort in it. When they ran some sprints, Cole finished last every time and gave little effort. I can't help when I watch an athlete to watch things about their body language. Maybe he had a headache. I hope that was the case!

Interesting, and I think correct, to sign high-level positional players instead of pitchers. No idea what the statistics are, but I would suppose they "fail" a lot more in the quest to get to the majors. Andersen Espinoza probably was an outlier. Christopher Acosta has got to bug the heck out of the brain thrust. I'm stoked about Flores, Diaz, and company!

Lots of weird stuff happening in the Lowell game and the bench is going crazy on the ump over squeezing Groome. Mr. Belding called the 2nd inning on the radio. He must be overcoming the ump with 5 no-hit innings!

Bradford surmised we'll be in on Frazier with his value plummeting as he hits .211 If his value is really that low... I'd take him if Chicago ate some money to keep us under the LT. he's a good fit for Fenway park and he's a good defender, even if he's only about a league average run producer now. He'd be cheaper than Moustakas. He would lengthen the line-up for us. Man that 8 and 9 spot are almost non-existent. Pitchers would, especially in Fenway, have to be careful with Frazier. I could see him hitting 12 to 15 bombs in the 2nd half for us. Can't wait until they DFA Panda.

Dombrowski is doing what he has to do...to stay under the cap and give us some potential "lightning in the bottle" with the Fister and Peralta signings. I like both and think he is thinking quite correctly. Quite possible they will both not be helpful, but they have succeeded before in the majors so we definitely need to try other alternatives to what has become big weaknesses...starter depth and 3rd base. I like it!

Out of curiosity, what is your definition of a superstar. By almost all metrics, Butler was a top 15 player this year. Personally, I would have no qualms about trading #3, Bradley and filler for Butler. Reports are that Chicago, looking to get younger, was willing to trade Butler to Philly for the #3 pick and that it would pick the superior athlete in Jackson. If so, we should be able to make that same trade. Butler will be 28 next season so a trade would be a shorter term view. www.google.com/amp/nesn.com/2017/06/nba-rumors-celtics-want-to-flip-no-3-pick-in-trade-for-jimmy-butler/amp/If we keep the pick, Jackson apparently has higher upside than Tatum, by consensus outside of Ainge, but Tatum could be of greater offensive help next year with already polished footwork and midrange shooting, albeit less defensive chops. Some Tatum comparisons are with a bigger Paul Pierce. Jackson has a few disturbing police run-ins and other issues. He sent a disparaging/challenging tweet toward Fultz after the trade as well. For me, I would keep the choice, trust Danny to pick the best and sign Hayward or Griffin who are both younger than Butler and cost nothing in return. Didn't know you were in to hoops also! I'm a big fan myself. Keep the pick and take Tatum.

I agree he would be a lot better than what we throw out there presently. It comes down to cost for me. Not sure what it would take, but I would not be willing to give up too much. Hate to move Beeks at this time. I'd rather move one of our many relievers in our system...some of which are looking pretty good.

I see Josh Ockimey just committed his 10th error and we aren't at the half-way point. I know his profile as a defensive player is a "work in progress", but that is worrisome for a 1st basemen.

Lots of speed, obviously. Watching the video and he's got some work to do with the swing. The balance is bad and he appears to be hitting off the front foot. Good build - he looks as if he might add some power if he works the kinks out. I think I see an uppercut buried in there. Wow! Really? I was thinking that he looked like a bigger version of Andrew B. I like his swing. Jumping a little at a batting practice fastball is hardly a swing defect. Agree...I like the swing also. Look forward to watching him in the GCL.

I'm an optimist for sure, but I really like what I've seen in the videos above. Great pitcher body. Mid-90's. Even his slider showed potential. Let's see what professional coaching can do for this young man. I always take what Law says with a grain of salt, and O'Dowd is just reading off a cue card. Physically he looks like someone who can go deep into games. It was my thought last night watching things unfold, that there were not many options at #24 that were outstanding. This kid, in my option, easily has the upside of a #3 with him getting the opportunity to develop his secondaries.

Alexander Martinez continues to have a good start in DSL. Two more hits atop the batting order and his third and fourth stolen bases. 2 for 5 day actually brought his insanely small sample size average down. Anything real to this guy? Check his age.

Devers has another multiple-hit game and Chavis hits his 15th. Looks like a good time to promote and see what they can do at another level.

I agree with that sentiment. People do not change. Definitely dig deep into Romero's effort and decisions, but I also prefer folks who have always shown the right actions and drive. I feel this more than ever after watching the albatross known as The Panda attempt to play baseball every night. I really liked Ben Cherington, but man that is not a "gift that keeps on giving". It was known how Sandoval didn't take care of his weight and how he had no plate discipline. How has that worked out?
Check the kid out thoroughly, but you have to be totally sure. If his talent or ceiling is the same as some others...I'd go with the others.

It also is my opinion he could be an adequate corner outfielder. He sure hasn't taken to 3rd base so far. I know he has a strong arm, but the 2nd base idea is not a bad idea. If you have ever played 3rd, the ball comes at you a lot faster than to a middle infielder. Maybe he could be a serviceable 2nd basemen. The way Fenway plays, I really can't see him in right (even if he has a good arm). I'm sure we will all be somewhat surprised if Devers is not our 3rd basemen in a year or two. If Chavis's bat is for real, 2nd and LF could be his ticket. Just because the ball comes faster at 3rd doesn't mean that it's easier to have adequate range at 2B. 2B needs the range of a SS without the arm. Also, 2B need to be able to turn DPs, which is a skill that would be difficult for someone who is not athletic. I've seen him several times, and he is pretty athletic. My comment is that some folks feel more comfortable in the middle infield. I know I did when I played. I HOPE 3rd is covered, and as much as I love Peddy...he probably has, at best, 3 to 4 quality years. Chavis has played the middle infield before. He may be more comfortable there. I would think defense will not be Chavis's calling card. His bat will get him to the big leagues. If can play an adequate 2nd or corner outfield, that may be the best for him to reach his potential.

Maybe not the right place for this but- If Michael Chavis keeps hitting as does Devers is it time to think about moving him to second base? As a former ss he likely has the agility and the hands so perhaps a late 2018 cup of coffee with the idea of him eventually replacing Pedroia is not out of the question. Yes he has a long way to go, but he his clearly ready for another challenge offensively and moving him to 2B would allow Devers to stay at 3B if he (Devers) isn't pushed to Pawtucket. The issue is would it be considered too much to bump Chavis up a level and incorporate a position change at the same time, something that the Sox have seemed reluctant to do in the past? Not sure a move to 2B really makes much sense. As I understand it, Chavis' defensive strong suit is his arm, and his weaknesses are his footwork and his hands (see, e.g., this scouting scratch). He was a SS in high school, but everyone knew he wasn't athletic or fluid enough to play there at higher levels-- he's kind of a stocky guy who doesn't move that well. I suspect they'll keep him at 3B for the rest of the year and if they need to consider a position change in the future, I'd guess corner outfield over 2B.

Shawaryn's last start for Greenville maybe? I certainly hope so! Other than that one start, he has totally dominated...which he should. His age and college experience should allow them to push him.

Devers in his 1st at-bat today gets his 10th double and 27th RBI. Man it would be nice to see him take-off once again and force a promotion. And then a Chavis jump may happen also.
