Will both have 1 year AST at the end of 2015 and both be FA in 2021? Not sure how complete year on DL affects AST - I assume it counts if on MLB roster ? If so "C" lots of time. Welcome oldfan. Your name means: 1) you've been a fan for many, many years, or 2) you are over 90? I'm gathering since you are using a computer, you have just been following the Sox for a looooooooonnnnnng time! I remember Tony C fondly.....so no problem either way.

For a young catcher who was ticketed for a full season of AAA, I am very impressed with Blake Swihart. For those of you down-grading his defense, he is 23 with a few years of experience behind the plate. For those of you who are not impressed with his offense, have you missed the last 6 - 8 weeks?
This kid is very valuable. This kid has made so much improvement in the last 4 months it is pretty amazing. He has, IMO, never came across as feeling out of his element or over his head.
His defense has improved greatly, and in another year he may be (well) above average. As for his offense, a switch hitting catcher who has the ability to hit 30 doubles with 10 homers a year is exceptional.
CV may pull a Wieters this spring and we definitely can't move either at this time. CV may be outstanding, but I'm surprised more of you don't like Swihart better!

Bradley really struggling again with pitches inside. Surprised more of us are not getting a little worried......once again. He has actually looked terrible for about 5 games. I want to see A LOT more proof that he is anywhere close to being a sure thing. He is missing pitches once again. He needs to have a more productive series against the Orioles. I'm rooting for him BIG TIME, but he looks like he is regressing.

I'd love to see them switch to the Betts / Bradley / Castillo alignment for this road trip and the next homestand, and then switch back to the Castillo / Betts / Bradley alignment for the final road trip. Get a look at each alignment both at home and on the road, and also see if switching them back and forth disrupts their play. More likely, the two-alignment option is not on the table, in which case they absolutely need to switch to the Betts / Bradley / Castillo alignment after this trip and go with it until the end of the season. I'm surprised they haven't placed Betts in a corner yet. It seems Castillo has taken quite well to left in Fenway. We have so little time left. Betts has played right before, just not this season. What are they waiting for? I get the idea of keeping Bradley in right because of his arm, but Betts has an OK arm and certainly can cover the great expanse of right field. I sincerely believe Mookie should be playing, at least, right for the remainder of the season. IMO Bradley, the superior outfielder, should be positioned in center field going forward. Lets get all 3 comfortable NOW!

Not that I want the Rays to have more good young pitching but I'm disappointed in Matt Moore's struggles. Is this his first year back from TJ? Yes.....and don't forget Alex Cobb is going through the whole thing currently. The Rays have some nice arms and they have a top prospect/pitcher on the horizon in Blake Snell. If Cobb and Moore can come back strongly, Smiley be himself, Ordorizi keep being solid, and Archer keeps getting better.....you've got a nice thing going. Nate Karns has also been OK. The problem, for a while, has been scoring runs. When your top producer is someone like Logan Forcytte you can see what they are up against each and every night.

To me this a no brainer. Swihart, for many reasons, should not be traded....period! Vazquez should head to Pawtucket for, at least, 6 weeks. If he is really ready at this time, consider moving Hanigan.

As few home games that we have left, there is NO way Holt should be taking Castillo's spot tonight. If you are going to turn him into an excellent left fielder for next season.....what are you doing worrying about who the pitcher is. Castillo should be playing pretty much every day!!

Haha ... I like Lovullo. "I went them deciding things for themselves, as long as they decide that bunting is a stupid freaking idea." I like Lovullo also. I like his philosophy early...... blow them up!

Travis WILL be in Pawtucket next season......count on it. One of the reasons it took so long for the parent club to gather steam was the glacier type decisions Cherington and company made this season. DD has already pushed and prodded the organization much more and will continue to move people who have shown they are ready. No more coddling and hoping some folks who have been around several years eventually getting it. Guys like Travis, who has DEFINITELY shown he is a talented professional hitter, will not be stopped by a player or two who has not progressed.
Travis may not be ready in 2016, but Hanley (etc.) better show something special next year or be prepared to get knocked out of the way by someone who is capable and producing. If our 1st baseman in 2016 does not give us solid production, IMO Travis will be our 1st baseman in 2017 (maybe sooner).
I was a Cherington supporter (and Farrell), but the change of atmosphere has been very refreshing. DD has NO responsibility to anyone in our organization. He has a clean slate and no rose-colored glasses. The "spurt" we are experiencing, IMO, is not coincidental!

Seriously....if Robbie Ross is your most reliable reliever....what would you do differently? I was actually hoping he would take Porcello out after 7 innings and 100 pitches......but then I thought......about who was out in the bullpen?

That is one of the things I saw immediately when watching him this year in the GCL. He is soooooo balanced over the rubber, and his mechanics look easy for him to duplicate.

My favorite for a break out season, Jamie Callahan, certainly has NOT had the year he or I was hoping for.......but his transition to the bullpen has been somewhat eye-opening. Here is his last 10 game totals: 4-0 1.52 1 29.2 21 5 6 40. He had 2 4inning stints in which he struck out 8 in each. Jamie just turned 21 and now is up to 230 pounds. Maybe he will turn into a decent relief pitcher for us.

The kids are playing so well, but I'd like to throw this out.......Josh Rutledge has played quite well and is only 26. Him and Holt give us 2 very solid options behind the starting infield. I hope Travis Shaw starts back up, but I have my doubts. Rutledge has been a solid pick up.

Yeah it looks like Devers also got his second wind also the last few games. How many calls are the Sox FO going to get this offseason? Forget the main roster there all going to be about Greenville team. On the other hand, Moncada may be running out of steam. 6 - 7 games ago I was hoping he'd finish at .300 or above.

Mookie. Digging that he is going the other way now even with some inside pitches. He is going to hit for average extremely well with that approach. Been waiting for it all year. Love that he takes the ball out of the park with inside pitches also but he was getting very predictable. THIS was the only thing I didn't care for with his approach. You are right. With his speed, etc.....he could easily hit .300 next season.

Who really are the big FA's that teams would sacrifice a pick for? With Cueto, Price, Kazmir, and Leake being traded, they are all compensation-free. That basically leaves Jason Heyward, Justin Upton, Ian Desmond, Alex Gordon, Matt Wieters, Zack Greinke, Jordan Zimmermann, and maybe Jeff Samardzija. I have a hard time envisioning the Sox signing any position player this off-season. So to me, losing a pick basically comes down to whether they want to sign Greinke, Zimmermann, or Samardzija. That really puts this whole thing about worrying about a top-10 protected pick thing into perspective. It sort of comes down to.....Zimmerman (and maybe Greinke if the Dodgers don't re-up him) to who we would potentially have to give up our 1st pick for. I would not at all be surprised if Greinke re-signs. So if Dave D. is going this route.....we sign 1 of these 4: Price, Cueto, Kazmir, or (bite the bullet with) Zimmerman. Possibly Jordan Zimmerman has somewhat less of a bargaining position with Price, Cueto, and Kazmir not losing someone a 1st rounder. I'm not advocating him at all.....it is just interesting. WHAT really worries me is giving any pitcher, this old, a 6 to 7 year contract. Probably won't happen, but I'd love to get Price or Cueto for just 5 years!

I just saw that also............wow! Now that is what I call praise. I already was cuckoo for Beni, and now I'm thinking he may become a clone of my favorite Sox player of all time.......Fred Lynn. Always thought that every Sox fan favorite player of all time is Pedro radiohix, Pedro is definitely in my top 5. Nomar is in that group too. My first Spring Training game ever....at the City of Palms Stadium in Fort Myers could not have been better. Nomar was at short, Manny was in left, and Pedro was scheduled to get in 3 to 4 innings as the starter. I actually thought, with me escaping bad weather up north and watching the swaying palm trees in the outfield, that I had died and gone to heaven!

Steve i loved Lynn too. I remember early in '79 he had lifted weights and people would say " man is that really Fred Lynn?" And he then had that Willie Mays season .333 39 hrs- much better than '75. He must have had injuries after that curtailed his elite power/average into merely good. Actually Jackie Bradley reminds me more of Lynn than Ben- Similar amazing routes in center, gold glove despite not premium speed, and great arm too. Beni seems faster, routes and arm not comparable to the other two. Jackie's current strongly built frame seems closer to Lynn's built up frame also, despite 5'10" stature. HIt tool, Beni may be closer to Lynn, but early yet- hell I'll take all 3! One of the BIG reasons Lynn slipped was him being traded to the Angels. Even Fred now says he made a huge mistake pushing to get back to southern California. His swing was perfect for Fenway. I really believe, if he had stayed a Red Sox, he would have had a potential Hall of Fame career. As to the comparisons, I guess when I see a left handed centerfielder with pop in a Sox uniform, I think of one guy. Now we have to find a Jim Rice! Maybe Moncada will arrive with Beni, and we can relive 1975 all over.
