This is a really fun team to watch right now. When the season started and with all the injuries, if you told me May 1 we'll be 5 games over 500, I would have gladly taken it. That's a 94 win pace, I'd take it under pretty much any circumstances.

Looking at the reply, it looked more like upper forearm than wrist for Cooper. What am I missing ?

just amazed at this pitching staff. stoked at the performances.
It's like being embarrassed to be rich near poor people.

Excited about seeing Cooper playing solid to exceptional 1B. He's a ball magnet. 2 out of three balls in play will be hit to him.

It won't be very long before a lot of projection and analytical tools take a back seat replaced by scouting in the form of electronic tracking.

From my understanding of the ZIPS type projection systems, there's no scouting, no excuses, no consideration that a player's mother married an ax murderer, no adjustments for player injuries. It's simply a compilation of how similar players in histories fared going forward. Using Wong as an example, they weren't "wrong", that was how historically players similarly situated fared. If a player exceeds that, he's exceeded those that came before him, he hasn't beaten zips.
Scouting is your friend....

Mishmash of thoughts...
Uwasawa is addition by subtraction. He's not Joely taking away lefty time from Bernardino and Booser. It wouldn't take a lot. On the other hand, Joely will likely return a prospect or at minimum, cash, more than offsetting Cooper cash. Beleive it or not there are teams with worse (or no) lefties than him, Seattle for example (I haven't looked at Seattle since we played them). Lefties have more lives than Dalbec.
I doubt if we will get anything for Reyes but I think he's likely to get claimed. Cash if we're lucky.
As far as who goes for Grissom, I think it will be Valdez although Dalbec or Hamilton both also make sense. Whoever stays is likely to see a lot of bench time. If Masa will be out for a week or so, Valdez will likely stay.
I was hoping for Votto but also very happy with Cooper.

I wonder how our pitching staff will hold up without our ERA leader.

Houck deserved the win but we'll take it. Great game to watch.
I'm curious why they position Dalbec so far off the bag.

I mean again I hope he proves me wrong but you could see this coming from a mile away based on his 2023 BABIP Cause and effect. His BABIP is declining because he hasn't been hitting line drives.

Bright spot, Kelly's strikes pretty much hit the target every time. He had pinpoint control tonight.

Crawford/Imanaga should be an excellent duel. That of course means somebody's scoring a bunch of runs.

Trivia for the day: Who is the longest tenured minor leaguer in the Red Sox organization? By this I mean time in this org, not total time in the minors. You will not get this without looking. If you do look, don't spoil it. Lugo or Marrero would be my guesses.

On thing that occurred to me while watching the game, Cleveland's left handed hitters all try to poke the ball to the opposite field when they have 2 strikes and there's a right hander on the mound. Pretty much every damn time..

True that but we're also tallook at his history more closely and you will see a hitter tht takes a while to adjust then all of a sudden, solid contct happens. I remember last year at Portlans his k/BB rates sucked as well as his contact numbers then somewhere in early May, the K/BB numbers remained about the same but the king about SSS to start a career and projecting it to his future. Yes, but the issues being identified are exactly what people have been talking about for years, so there's more credibility behind the observations. Conversely, the defensive data (16th percentile OAA) doesn't align with history, so that certainly feels like a SSS. But to his credit, he's overcome adversity at every level along the way. True but if you look at his history, he's a slow adjust to new levels. Last year at Portland his K/BB rates sucked as well as his contact numbers then all of a sudden in early May, his K/BB numbers remained about the same but line drives started happening and his OPS took a giant leap forward. Once he's adjusted, the quality of his contact also adjust.
