Woj reporting that the Celtics are still engaged with Brooklyn on KD. They can give up Brown and up to three picks and two swaps. I wouldn’t give up all of that, but am still in favor of a deal so long as KD is happy coming here.

That's got to rank near the top of the worst comments ever. Duran is not a CF. This was obvious years ago after about one month. Horrible outfielders do not become good outfielders. Reads and tracking are not one of those abilities which can be learned. A player in a new position will take a little time to get used to the different angles but great outfielders take to the outfield like a fish to water. I do not give a flying **** about him missing a fly ball. Actually yours is one of the worst posts of all time because you are completely absolving a player on your favorite team of the worst sin a player can make on the field- not trying or caring. So please miss me with your TRASH. Because that’s what that opinion is. I’m pretty sure he was talking about Duran’s comment, not your comment. But even if he was talking about your comment, this reply would have been out of line, so please clean it up.

There are thousands of people whose jobs depend on being able to predict outcomes slightly better than the next person. Those people seem to think that Statcast-based stats like xBA are pretty valuable. I’ll take the word of those people over, uh, some guy on the internet. Aren't we all just, uh, some guy on the internet? We might as well stop all discussion if mods are going to shut people down that way. People who run BB front offices used to think RBIs were a telling stat, too. They can be wrong, you know. Some of us are moderators on the SoxProspects.com forums (But seriously, I’m allowed to have opinions just like anyone else and you are welcome to disagree with them.)

Disagree. I am in plenty of these game threads and these xBA discrepancies are all I see in every inning of every game. It turns out that hard hit balls get caught and little dribblers become hits and that’s how the game works. Statistically, this is an unreliable predictor of outcomes. If you used a similar model in investing, for example, you would throw it out right away(because you would quickly go broke). I’d take this whole concept more seriously if the outliers were much more rare. I don't think you understand how probability works There are thousands of people whose jobs depend on being able to predict outcomes slightly better than the next person. Stop the BS guys. Both of you. And anyone else. Not the place. Well then, how about enforcing the rules about no vaccine talk and not ignoring every single one of my reported posts so that I do not respond? We have been through this many times now. To the extent that it affects play on the field, vaccine discussion is OK. Conspiracy theory rants are not OK. If you don’t like that, there are many other places on the internet that may be a better fit for you. Consider this your last warning. I’m not having this discussion again.

Coaches like guys who can come in and play the scheme and work hard in practice, even if they have physical or skill limitations. That sounds like Kornet in a nutshell.

I'm just surprised, not that I don't like the moves. It doesn't fit the D first no matter what theme or a coach that likes small rotations. Gallinari, Brogdon and if we get Bryant are huge offensive upgrades for the bench. Yet they aren't close to really good defensive players either. White fit right in because he's a very good defensive player, not one year negative defensive plus minus in his entire career. Those three are the opposite. Still can use an athletic defensive big and wing. Resigning Kornet is crazy, why? I'm just left with so many questions. Our coach likes to play as big as anyone in the NBA and we now have 3 PGs signed for next 3 years to big money, starting level money. Brogdon is a long switchable guard and while Gallo isn’t as mobile any more, he’s also long and switchable within the team concept. I also wouldn’t assume that Udoka only knows how to play one way (defense first with two bigs). Last year, he looked at the roster and decided to maximize their strengths by playing one way. He’ll do the same this year, even if that means some stylistic or rotation changes. I hope by now we’re past underestimating Udoka.

Gallo is definitely more of a shot creator than Grant. Can post up, make plays in the pick and roll/pop, attack closeouts, etc. Just feels weird to have four of your top seven players be bigs in this day and age, but I suppose there weren’t a lot of better options available on the taxpayer MLE and other moves may come.

Would rather have Warren but maybe the medicals are too dicey Not a big Gallo fan. Feels like a lot of overlap with Grant Williams and can’t really play him as a wing at this point in his career. They really need a true wing but not many of those left. Maybe DiVincenzo? Kessler Edwards and the Martin twins are RFAs.

I really doubt that Durant would want to come to the team that just swept him in the playoffs. The optics are bad considering his history in okc and golden state, and I think Kevin really cares about. I do think he’s better than Jaylen. I am nervous of Jaylen not signing a third contract with Boston. Jaylen Brown is extension eligible on October 1. For all we know, he and the team have already agreed on a max extension. Unlikely that happens. He’s only eligible for an extension starting at $34.2 million (120% of his salary) in October, but if he waits to re-sign until he’s a free agent, that number bumps up into close to $40M (depends on cap increases between now and then).

Durant is under contract for four years so the risk is just age and unhappiness, not him leaving in free agency. I’d do something like Brown, Smart and a pick or two (but not the whole bag). Nope. I would do Smart and Timelord and all of our picks from now until the end of times, but not Brown. UNLESS you have a feeling he doesn't want to stay past his current deal. Here’s my point of view: for the next four years, Durant is a clear tier or two better than Brown and meaningfully increases their title odds. He’s coming off an MVP caliber year (albeit injury-shortened) and I’m bullish on Durant’s ability to stay productive into his mid/late 30s (size and elite jump shot gives him a good shot of aging well a la Dirk). After that, you’ve given away more future value, but four years is a long way out and it’s hard to predict anything definitive beyond then anyways. Brown is the single best piece that I think is reasonably availability and fits a retooled Nets timeline. Not sure how excited Durant would be about the idea, though.

As a reminder, let’s not discuss the merits of the COVID vaccines, just how it affects play on the field. Thanks.

Look, umass will always find something tangential in your post to pick at. It’s been going on more than a decade at this point. Just avoid getting in one of those quote spirals.

You know, I used to wonder why First Take and WEEI seem to be so popular, and then I realized that most fans see sports more through the lens of melodrama than through the lens of dispassionate scouting/statistical analysis. But it gives me comfort that the Celtics organization will be more concerned about Tatum’s handle, court vision and ability to finish through contact than they will about his “killer instinct” (or lack thereof). Tatum had the biggest drop in WS/48 on the team during the playoffs besides White who went from starter to bench player. He was 25th in the whole league during regular season, 43rd during playoffs among a much smaller field of players. This isn’t just talk show crap because he missed a shot or two, it's backed up by advanced stats. Horford got better, Robert Williams was almost the same, if Tatum just has a small dip like Brown or basically anyone besides White we win a championship. If I had win share data just for the finals it would be much more pronounced. I'm not going crazy talking about trading Tatum, yet this is a legit thing to talk about. It's also not the first time we've seen this happen, two coaches and two different offenses. A lot of the same issues from 2020 versus Raptors and Heat, were there against Bucks, Heat and Warriors two years later. Heck all the way back to 2018 you got part of the samethings. TOs, massive offensive lulls and forced bad iso offense as they went away from ball movement for long stretches. Now I do agree with another poster there's two sides and both are legit, overall it's still a fairly young team. The sky isn't falling down and no one should be talking about trading Tatum. Yet he deserves criticism, he earned it, it's not just crazy Boston media crap. I’m not saying that Tatum doesn’t deserve criticism. I’m saying that he should be criticized for the holes in his game (which are plentiful), not armchair psychoanalysis about his mentality or instinct or whatever.

Cain is at the age where he might have suddenly hit a big drop off, but, just looking at his stats, he might be better than JBJ and Duran.
