It's so hard not to see Devers being the next defacto Ortiz at DH the next 9 years. I assume he’d still play 3b in the National League parks during the World Series.

Or as we know it, one more pitch than Jordan Montgomery, the scheduled starter.

When they are good again we will all recite "I hate these new fans who hop on the bandwagon. I was a fan even during the David Hamilton era."

Bleis chased a few high fastballs but turned well on some offspeed. Its SSS after a rusty layoff. But, I do worry if the "sound off the bat" scouting of tools doesn't match up with hitting tool/pitch recognition. His lack of results make me think he may be on the back half of the 10 after our draft this year.

Kenley just looks like he doesn't really have much left. Thinking we are enduring the end of his career. Would rather see Martin closing. Still can't believe Bloom didn't trade him last year. Because under CB we were never rebuilding.

I believe the deferrals primarily help the player, as they get taxed when the money is received. If the player has retired to a non-tax state like Florida or Texas he will not face California resident taxes on the income when paid.
The only benefit to the team on the deferrals is that the deal value is present valued, meaning in your hypo that the 650 would be reduced in value to say 350 million, divided by 11 years and they get a luxury charge of $31 mil or so for the 11 years. If taxed, the Yanks pay 31 mill in tax each year (presuming tax remains in place next year and Yanks are over). They also dont have to pay money out the door until deferrals start, so on a cashflow basis it helps now.

For which one? The agent who overplayed his hand or the player that hired the agent that regularly overplays his hand?

Not a doctor, but play one on the message boards. Left shoulder instability is what led to Miguel Bleis' and Marcello Mayer's ruined 2023 seasons.

The family that took Yoshida’s ball could have been put in a holding cell and they still wouldn’t have given it up Article also doesn’t mention that they will only receive those signed bats and balls in 2034

Happy Opening Day, everyone. I have nothing insightful to opine upon. I'm just ready to see what this team can do and see how the young guys develop. Let's go! This is soxprospects.com. Opening day is next Friday.

Matthew McCaunaghy
On the Cespedes BP, how much can you tell? Seems that pitch recognition is far more important than the hit sound.

Can someone fill me in on what is wrong with Song? I must have missed it as I just noticed today he shows up on the injured list per the projected roster page. Zanatello and Brannon, too. Quite the destruction Chris strew in his 36 hours down there.

In looking at the rosters to find Gilberto, I see that Mikey Romero is on the IL already. Given that injuries derailed him last year, do we know if this is a new injury, or a lingering back injury from last year?

The US rate has been below the Philippines inflation rates tradingeconomics.com/philippines/inflation-cpi#If tax rates drove much of the discussion, the Marlins and Tampa would haul in the players. I could imagine that some players would prefer either the US just for familiarity (and for Montgomery, health care compatibility), and some, just for comfort and warmth early and late in the year (probably applies more to hockey players/winters)

That was my initial thought, but if the arbitration number is realistic (he wanted 6.9, they offered “only” 6.5) then as a free agent he should get somewhere around that now. And the Giants’ buyout of 1.2 as well. So in theory he might come out ahead

It seems almost certain, too, that the Blue Jays were offering a better deal this past November than the one Chapman ultimately got, but that Boras' Chapman's high asking price drove them off. [/div][/quote] Let's not relieve Chapman of his own agency. No doubt Chapman was informed of the offer, and turned it down. The player chooses the agent, knowing what they are getting.

NL executive- “we heard….”
So who did they hear it from? Sox? No. So they heard it from Boras, who is trying to create some urgency in other teams to bid against the Sox. These story plants to Olney are just to move the market and the talk about a longer solution seems to telegraph to the market that the Sox are offering length Not to say the Sox won’t end up with him, but Boras wants a second team in the bidding to sweeten their offer
