What’s the record for furthest we have gotten into a season without a single rainout? We’ve had none across MLB over 4 days and that seems almost impossible this time of year. Bite your tongue, knock on wood, throw salt over your shoulder. All of it. I want baseball.

Booser had a rough one Feltman is a meatballer I didn't watch the game but Booser's line is disappointing. He looked nasty this past spring. Even with their best defensive players, this team will have a poor defense. Booser looked bad for the most part, but he had a two batter stretch where he struck out both guys and looked dominant doing it. There were flashes. He started out throwing his fastball 93-95 during the bad parts, but during those two ABs he was up to 98.

Even the Baty home run (the first one. Baty looks like the real deal) against Walter looks worse than it was. Based on the center fielder’s route and the announcers, it looked like one that kind of just got up there and kept going. Wind was a factor early on.
That being said, it wasn’t all roses. His command looked off. He walked two guys tonight which he didn’t do until his 6th start last year.

Whatever Walter’s line looks like at the end, he’s pitched better than it looks. Lots of groundball singles finding their way through the infield.

Anyone else not able to get the internet stream to work? The MiLB app doesn’t seem to be working but if you go to the MLB app and down to the “Watch” tab it shows the game.

That’s an aggressive assignment for Guerrero. I’d love to see him take it and run. He debuted in Fort Meyers last year (barely) and is starting the year in Portland this year. They’re essentially skipping Greenville with him. Ian must be thrilled.

Winkowski is on the ML roster right? Why Kelly? They probably want to get Winckowski in at the start of a clean inning to take some bulk work. Let Kelly get out of this inning and then let Winck take the next 2-3 hopefully.

Jhostynxon Garcia for sure. Then likely someone boring like Rosario or something. Yeah, I was thinking more in terms of the middle infield depth. With Mikey Romero out for now, they didn't have anyone on the bench that has ever played a game at 2B or SS. But then I remembered Salazar. He's listed as a catcher now but he can still play those middle infield positions. And yeah, they're not exciting players or promotions or anything like that, but it's a fun thought process to see who can go from level to level. Even if they're just a minor league depth guy, I will always root for the guys that get sent up to a new league.

Another round of cuts: Alex Zapete, Henry Nunez, and Eduardo Vaughan. Zapete and Vaughan were tentatively scheduled by the site to be on the Salem bench (I know they're just projections). It'll be interesting to see who from the FCL squad gets the bump up to replace them in Low-A. The outfield in Fort Meyers has a couple of options, but the infield is light with either recent draftees or guys that haven't even played stateside yet. Don't really see anyone in Greenville that could drop down to fill the roster spot really.

Yorke just had one of the best defensive plays you’ll see a second baseman make.

It’s all about the ramp up time. With the Sox, there would have been absolutely no rush. If he needed to spend half the season in Fort Meyers getting back into baseball shape, then he could have done that. With the Phillies, the pressure was on to be in a major league bullpen within a month. I’m not going as far as to say Dombrowski’s actions caused Song’s injury, but you can’t argue the fact that taking him in the Rule 5 draft put Song in the position that caused him to rush. Reading how uncomfortable he was with every aspect of pitching and expecting him to pitch in the majors in a month after that? That’s messed up.

If the Wong injury is long-term, do the Sox ask Alfaro to back out and come back to spring training and get more work with the pitchers as the #2 catcher?

I know it’s not going to happen like this but the Phillies should just send him back now. There’s no way he’s going to be able to make the jump from low-A to the majors after a three year period where he hasn’t even thrown off a mound. He’s not making the team and honestly there’s no logical reason for any team to think he can pitch for them. So send him back to the Red Sox who can bring him along slowly and actually get him the minor league experience and time he needs. And for those that think they can just keep him in camp and work with him and then send him back, what’s the point? It’s not helping Song. Let the player work with the coaches and the system that’s going to actually have him. I dunno. Maybe he can make some strides in a month but I just don’t see it. The Phillies have no incentive to do this. All they have to do is get him to flash something in ST and they can ship him off for at least a PTBNL, which is a win for them. Even if the likely outcome is he gets sent back to the Sox, no reason the Phillies don’t at least try to create some value here. Any team that trades for Song also needs to keep him on their 26 man roster all year long. Even teams like the Nats or the A’s can’t logically think that a player that hasn’t pitched literally at all for three years is worth the roster spot. That’s borderline criminal. A new level of tanking. So why would they trade anything of value to just send him back? Yeah, the Phillies can keep him and maybe he shows something to suggest that he can eventually make it back to pre-pitching form, but how many players have ever come back from a three year layoff, let alone how many have been able to successfully do it in a month before they’re in the majors? Trying to rush him or throw him to the wolves every four days does nothing for Song. How many pitchers have been absolutely ruined by going to the majors too early? I get it’s a business, but Song is not being helped at all here.

I think he hit Xander with a pitch in 2018 that injured him IIRC. I'd guess/hope he's way down on the depth chart. Looking at his career track over the last few years, he’s not even a lock to make it out of spring training. But it’s a worthwhile arm to bring into the mix on the off chance he can regain the form he had early on with the Rays. Can’t hurt.

Twins have a roster full of outfielders. Does the signing of Duvall close the book on a Kepler trade? I don’t see the fit, but it definitely seems like Kepler is gonna be traded to someone at least.
