Another ball needs to drop with the Duvall signing. I think the most realistic options are
1. DFA Ort 2. Dalbec Trade 3. DFA or Trade Brasier 4. DFA Taylor 5. Duran Trade

Don’t expect much back from Colorado in the Seabold transaction, but then again, what did we give up to acquire him? A lot was expected from him at the time of the trade as the better prospect of the two former Phillies. Is it crazy to think we’d get something back? All of his warts aside, he is still a starting pitcher with options that could potentially be a major league pitcher. That’s worth something. Not a top prospect or anything, but not organizational filler either.

I donât want to see the front office get reactionary. Moves need to be made following the Story injury, but keep the moves smart. This team is relying on a lot of ifs. They can be good IF Sale, Paxton, and Kluber stay healthy, IF Bello and Whitlock thrive in the rotation, IF Casas and Yoshida adjust to the majors, IF Kiké and Story stay healthy and return back to previous levels of success. Obviously Story didnât happen. But I donât want to see reckless moves made. This team isnât good enough or stable enough for that. Make a move to stay competitive, but Casas, Bello, Mayer, and Bleis need to be untouchable.

This makes me sad. He was a personal favorite.

Gives the Sox someone that can play SS in the majors in case of an emergency.
Addresses exactly what Chris and Ian were talking about on the podcast. With Park and Downs (potentially) gone, there was no one in AAA with major league experience at SS. Goodrum fills that hole.

Heyman reports the Sox are in on a free agent and that players then signs with another team within a couple of hours. Feel like I’ve seen that before…

The best and safest move for the Sox is the one that keeps Story at 2B. Any reasonable path to contention is relying on a return to All-Star form from Trevor Story. And he can’t be an All-Star when he blows his shoulder out on a throw from SS.

The Sox just addressed one of their biggest problems by getting another bullpen piece, but especially one that doesn’t walk anyone. Had a hole, filled it. Nicely done.

The position players were just about as clear cut as I’ve ever seen. I can’t really think of any of the positions where I’d question a choice and it’s honestly not even that close.

If Aaron Perry can ever stay healthy he could be a good reliever. When I saw him last year he was pairing a mid to high 90s fastball with two decent breaking balls. He just needs to stay on the mound.

You also have to wonder if Bello’s signing conditions will impact his decision. It’s not like he was a huge bonus baby or early round pick with money in the bank. He’s been making minor league pay for the last five years after a $28,000 signing bonus.

Bello over his first three starts: 12 IP, 22 H, 14 ER, 8 BB, 9 Ks. 10.50 ERA Bello in his last seven appearances: 30.1 IP, 29 H, 10 ER, 13 BBs, 33 Ks. 2.97 ERA. And truthfully I thought he looked better in his first 3 starts than those numbers suggest. It feels like virtually every game he’s pitched he’s been better than his final line. I’d be pleased if I was just following stats, but having watched most of these games, I’m pretty much frothing at the mouth with excitement. Yeah, he has looked really good by the eye test. He just needs some consistency and better defense behind him. His 2.79 FIP backs that up.

Today I learned: Edwin Diaz's FIP since the beginning of June is 0.09.
To repeat: his FIP since the beginning of June is 0.09.
That's 33 innings of 17.28 K/9, 1.89 BB/9, and zero home runs.
There is no more exciting place in baseball right now than Citi Field in the 9th inning.

Baby lineup for Salem tonight. Tyler Miller is the old fogey at 22. Everyone else is 20 or under with six teenagers playing tonight.

Yorke is 6-13 with a double and a home run so far in September. Let him finish strong and start next year hoping for health.
On the bright side with Yorke, according to B-Ref he hasn’t had a single AB against a younger pitcher this year.

Mikey Romero with a single, double, and three RBIs so far tonight. He’s hit the ground running in his pro career.
