Starlyn Nunez has been the number three hitter for both games for the DSL Blue and has two doubles through his first 7 ABs. $52,500 bonus out of the Dominican.

Cespedes and Jimenez both back after exiting the game early yesterday. Seems like it was planned as was thought.

Pretty good start for Gilberto Batista - 4IP 5K 0BB 3R. He gave up a home run to the Mets top bonus baby It’s better than it looks. He went through four innings of one run ball before coming out for the fifth. He let up singles to the only two battles he faced before he was pulled and both inherited runners scored.

Anyone catch the Rafaela steal of home? Always an exciting play. It wasn’t very exciting unfortunately. Double steal with Mayer going from 1st to 2nd and Somerset didn’t even cover second base. They still made the throw even though there was no one covering for the tag. Shortstop caught the ball behind the bag and Rafaela went home on the throw.

A big change in Coffey’s April to May has been keeping the ball in the park. In 20.2 April innings, he let up 7 HR. In 23 innings across May, he only let up 3. Helped to lower his ERA from a solid 3.92 in April to a dominant 1.96 in May.

When did his nickname become 'bones'? Guy on Twitter (Hunter Noll) puts up a ton of video online and is a big fan of Bonaci. Gave him the name. Not sure if Noll is affiliated with anyone. Think he’s posted here a time or two.

Bonaci is at SS again for the second game in the post Mayer era in Greenville. Seems like he’s the priority there now but I wonder how much run Paulino will get there. Still only two game sample size.

I was curious to see how Mayer ranked in terms of time spent in A+ vs other top prospects in the system.
Mayer: 60 games, 243 ABs Casas: 2 games, 7 ABs (his traditional High-A year was the cancelled 2020 season. Doesn’t really count) Devers: 128 games, 503 ABs Duran: 50 games, 199 ABs Dalbec: 100 games, 344 ABs Yorke: 101 games, 421 ABs Betts: 51 games, 185 ABs Bogaerts: 104 games, 384 ABs
Definitely some variety here with college, high school, and international guys. Some were high A Salem and some were high A Greenville. Some were under Bloom and some were not. I think Yorke is the best comparison to what Mayer is now in terms of age, experience, and management.

I try to catch as many games as I can when the Sox come to town and I’ve probably seen almost 20 Salem games over the last couple years and Bonaci has been the third best player I’ve seen behind Mayer and 2021 Nick Yorke. I saw him during one of the best series of his career in Fredericksburg last year when he was just smashing extra base hits everywhere. The first thing you notice about Bonaci when you see him in person is that he’s small, but he is jacked. Not quite Jarren Duran level muscles but he is strong. I have him higher on the prospect list than both Lugo and Paulino. I’m a huge fan though, so take it with a grain of salt.

One of the stolen bases was changed to defensive indifference, so I guess it’s “only” six.

Bonaci crushed one off the wall. Guy slugged .300 first half of last season, and .500 the second half and is doing some damage to start this year off I saw Bonaci a few times last year in Fredericksburg towards the end of the year and there’s some real sneaky power there. Hard contact to all fields. I’m a big fan.

The Rosario promotion is really interesting. Is he a GUY that they’re promoting because he can handle the level and they consider him a legit catching prospect? Or is he just a body you’re throwing up there because he can catch a couple times a week without much issue?

Hickey is going to take some time from Scott, which is a shame because Scott has been hitting well this year. Hickey is the clear better prospect though.

Eduardo Lopez is on fire. Since starting the year 2-19 (.105) with 9 Ks (47%), he has gone 14-31 (.452) with 8 Ks (26%). 3 for 3 with another home run tonight. Up to .320 on the year.

Isaac Coffey is currently third in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts, with both the players in front of him having an extra start versus him. He's third in K/9 as well. However, the K/BB rate of the two guys in front of him are 2.60 and 3.40, while Coffey is at 15. He's second in the league in WHIP and 11th in average against. However, he also leads the league with 7 home runs allowed in only 20.2 innings. If he could keep the ball in the park, he'd be having a season to rival Drohan's to start. He also completely skipped Low-A, which is kind of cool. All that said, I can't get excited about a guy with a high 80s-low 90s fastball at least until AA. We'll see what happens in the second half of the season, but it's been a pretty cool statistical start for him.

Not sure how significant the age issue is with Meidroth. He’s 21, about to turn 22 in July. He’s less than a year older than Nick Yorke.
