Bradley Blalock has been dominant in his return from Tommy John. His starts this year have gone 4 IP-1ER, 4 IP-1ER, 5 IP-0ER, and 5 IP-1ER. Now a 1.50 ERA over 18 IP with a 19-4 K-BB ratio.

It was pointed out to me that the roster includes also includes a De Leon, two De Los Santos, a Del Orbe, and a Delancey The Killer Dees (D's)? You’ll want to avoid any nickname that sounds like Deez. Anyone around kids can confirm this.

Arias with another 3 hit game. 3-4 so far and an early .500 batting average.

Another thing that needs to be considered here is the upcoming offseason. How are you going to improve this team before next year? This free agent class is sub-par to say the least. After Ohtani, you’ve got a 30 year old Matt Chapman and then a very steep drop off. Let’s be honest, we’re not getting Ohtani and we are already set at 3B so Chapman isn’t coming here. There’s no sure fire player to improve the roster in free agency on the hitting side. Admittedly the pitching side is stronger with Urias, Nola, Giolito, Snell, and some lower level arms. You’re unlikely to find an impact player to improve the roster through free agency this year though. So you’re looking for prospects or to trade for a player. Looking around the league at players that would be available at the deadline for non-system destroying rates, there’s not really anyone that stands out as the player to get us over the hump. The media won’t like it and the fans won’t like it, but this deadline should be about prospect acquisition. Get some more prospects in the system and see what you’ve got. See who is going to develop as an impact player in your system and build the farm up enough that you can trade some in the off-season when more guys become available. How do you reconcile the two bolded sentences with each other? Are Urias or Nola not impact players who would improve the roster?
It's true enough on the position side. The current roster is strong enough at every position, and the free agent class is weak enough, that it may be. I'd love to upgrade the middle infield, but there are just no options there at all. Unless Adam Frazier gets you all hot and bothered. But that just returns me to the point that it would make an awful lot of sense to take a run at some high-end pitching.
Let’s rephrase that to say there’s no impact player to improve the lineup. Probably should have made that point clearer. I would be happy to get one or more of the free agent starting pitchers. I just don’t see the bats there and the offense has been the problem more often than not lately.

Salem is coming to town in a couple of weeks and I was looking forward to seeing Bleis, Anthony, and Mikey Romero. Now I may not see any of them.

Monegro has faced the minimum through 3 innings with 3 Ks. The only base runner he gave up was a single that was erased by a double play.

Yordanny Monegro is coming off of 5 perfect innings in the FCL opener with 8 Ks. He’s repeating the FCL and will turn 21 at the end of the season. If he can string together a couple of starts like his first, he’s a promotion candidate to low-A.

Brandon Walter gets his first win of the year with perhaps his best start of the year. 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 Ks. First time he’s completed six innings all year. Would not have guessed that Walter’s first win would come in the second week of June.
The starting pitcher experience with Chris Murphy may finally be over. He pitched a single inning in relief today.
Nick Sogard is quietly having a very good season and I’m thrilled he’s getting some back of the rankings love. Hitting .292 with a .783 OPS in AAA while playing 2B, SS, 3B, and both corner outfield positions.

The biggest issue that the team is going to face at the deadline is that the players mostly fit into two categories: underperforming vets or foundational youth. You’re not going to get much for the former and you don’t really want to trade the latter.
I also wonder how last year’s mistakes will affect this deadline. You don’t want teams making unnecessary decisions based on prior mistakes, but I’d like to see that they learned something. This team is not built to be a contender right now. Don’t try and force it.

Paxton is definitely the big chip, but everything depends on health and production. Kiké and Turner need an uptick in production to really be worth anything and Duvall needs to show that his start to the season wasnât just a crazy hot streak.

17 year old catcher Gerardo Rodriguez has been a tough out through the first couple of games. He’s 7-11 through the first couple of games with 3 doubles and a stolen base. *2.5 game sample size disclaimer*

Cutter Coffey with his first pro homer. Took a fastball on the top of the zone and crushed it past the left field wall. The pitcher is the Royals’ number two prospect and sits mid-90s with his fastball.

Coffey’s day is done.
5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 Ks.
I like the breaking ball and the arm angle…but his last pitch of the game was a strikeout swinging on an 88 mph fastball. If they can add a couple digits to his fastball, I think he can pitch. I just don’t see how he can succeed at that velocity in the upper minors.

Coffey just got screwed by luck for his second allowed run of the game. Runner on second was stealing third so Jordan went to cover and the batter hit a weak ground ball exactly where Jordan was, but it rolled into left field because Jordan was covering the bag. Easy ground ball that should have gotten him out of the inning with no runs allowed, but good base running by Brooklyn get them a run. Brooklyn has been running all over Erro who hasn’t even been close on any of his throws.

Watching the Greenville game this morning and I like Coffey’s breaking ball, especially vs righties. Moves away from right handed batters and he’s already gotten several swing and misses on the pitch just through the first couple of innings.

Brainer Bonaci is out of the lineup again after missing Saturday and Sunday. Something to monitor.
