I can't imagine that would fly under the rules. And if a player did that they'd probably get blackballed. They'd also be forgoing service time and a paycheck, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't just ride it out at that point. I don't know...There'd be a bit of beauty in Kris Bryant playing for only the first 8ish games of the season...

Could the Red Sox include Rusney Castillo on their 60 man roster? His $11 million salary is up this year, add him to the 40 man roster the last week of the season. He does not have enough major league service time, would this give the Sox his rights next year for 2021, but at the minimum major league salary as a 4th outfielder instead or to trade to others? There is a rule that when you renew a contract, you cannot reduce it by more than 20%, so Rusney would still be on the hook for about 10 million next year. It's discussed on page 13-14 of the CBA.

I agree with Chris. I love the idea of ties after 10-12 innings during the regular season.

If Seth Schwindenhammer's name alone couldn't carry him to greatness then neither will Blaze Jordan.

I wonder about the rumor of one of the teams punting in the top 10. This seems like that feel to me. I don't think so. Punting would be taking a high schooler that has no intention of signing. Orioles are either being cheap or planning on going wild in rounds 2-5

When would the trade deadline be? Hard to determine you're "out of it" with only ~50 games played (unless you're REALLY bad).

If it does, then that means the players are worse off today than we all think they are. Speaking for myself, I couldn't be happier about this change.

I’m no fan of the President and I’ll criticize the job he’s done. I do want to point out that the WHO was a disaster on this thing from the jump. They came around faster than Trump but they screwed the pooch on this early on. I don't disagree with you there. But placing a hold on WHO funding in the middle of a pandemic is an absolutely bonkers way to respond to that failure. It's like the Fire Department refusing to help out out a fire because "they should have known that curling iron would do that". Put the fire out, deal with everything else later.

I voted both Weld (champion) and Baker, but I've voted presidential blue the past 5 or 6 elections. I would've voted HW Bush in '88 if I'd been old enough though. Might've gone McCain if he didn't pick a total nut in Palin. Wow, was that a huge mistake. MA response has been pretty good. HC workers are in rough shape though. Lots of horror stories from former colleagues. No gear, no prep, no protections, cut pay. Most are federal issues. Mike De Wine in Ohio is a R governor in a battleground state and he's been awesome. He was way out in front relative to his peers and the feds, tbh. Our government is behaving like this is a confederacy and not a federal republic. Talk about weak, ineffectual central govt. It's a world issue, every Country doesn't have enough year! Heck China didn't when this started getting help from many Countries including us and they make most of the stuff. The president closed travel from China and the Democrats went off on him, calling him all sorts of things. You can't have effective Government when both sides care more about politics than the people of this Country! This just isn't true. Trump never banned travel from China . He banned Chinese nationals. You can fly to and from China today. Do you not see the important difference between banning all travel, and only travel by a group of people?

Amazing that you were able to list all of these things and still didn't mention he spent time last week reaching out to *Arod* to get his thoughts on the subject, and also told the media they need to look into whether health care workers are stealing PPE from the back of trucks. I'm sure there is another dozen stupid/corrupt things that his administration has done over the past couple months, that are also a big deal, but pale in comparison to the rest of this. Edit: Oh, and he also promoted the use of a drug that he thinks will cure the virus, which one person took too seriously and died from overdosing on.This is wrong. What Trump said was actually correct. Doctors are using the same treatment for Malaria (hydroxychloroquine) to treat COVID-19. It's not Trump's fault some woman gave her husband fish tank cleaner and they both died as a result. Disagree. It's up to the person holding the daily press conferences to only give information when it is safe to do so. If Trump would have been non-specific and just said there are drugs that are offering hope at a cure - that would have been fine. But it was completely irresponsible to specifically mention a drug that has not been approved at a time when people are as desperate as they are.

What did you want our President to do? I mean did you want him to shut everything down and scare everyone? I mean China lied about it's numbers and the world didn't really get the full scope of this till Italy. Heck Japan and the UK are still not doing a ton of testing. Everyone blames Trump, yet the CDC messed this up horrible. They wanted there own tests and messed them up. They wanted everything run threw them, but couldn't handle it. The minute Trump declared a national emergency allowing states to test we've been averaging over 200,000 tests a week. The New York Governor keeps going crazy, acting like they have no ventilators, when they have 6,500 of them and 1,400 people in ICU. People aren't dieing because they don't have ventilators. Blame China, if they reported true numbers people would have known how serious this truly was. Instead China made it seem like some social distancing basically ended it and kept the numbers crazy low. If they reported millions had it and hundred of thousands died people like Jimed wouldn't have thought this was the flu! The US was always going to get hit hard no matter who was President. We have a crazy diverse population that travels the globe and trades with most Countries. Along with a big population and people who value their rights. What did I want the president to do? Well I wish he hadn't said (on 1/22) that he wasn't worried about a pandemic and that it was totally under control; or (on 1/28) falsely spread the rumor that Johnson & Johnson was coming out with a vaccine; or (in early February) opted not to replace the failed CDC tests with WHO tests; or (on 2/10) made the unsubstantiated claim that warmer spring weather would make it go away; or (on 2/26) claimed that the numbers were "going down, not up," indicating the situation was improving; or (on 2/27) said “It’s going to disappear. One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear"; or (on 3/2) said "we're talking about a much smaller range of deaths than the flu"; or (on 3/6) falsely claimed that "anyone who wants a test can get a test"; or said that he wanted infected passengers on a cruise ship to stay offshore so that they wouldn't raise the number of official US cases; or flubbed a speech announcing a ban on travelers from Europe without staffing up TSA, leading to giant crowds at airports; or refused to coordinate distribution of medical equipment, leading states to bid against each other; or bragged about his ratings in the middle of a pandemic. I wish he hadn't dismantled the NSC's pandemic response team in 2018 for no good reason. I wish he hadn't discontinued the position of an epidemiologist embedded with the Chinese CDC for no good reason. Instead of narcissistically focusing on how the numbers reflect on him I wish he had used the ample warning we had on the pandemic to coordinate the government response on testing, stockpiling masks and medical equipment, communicating to the public the severity of the threat, which probably would have encouraged republican governors to go to lockdowns sooner. I wish he had listened to governors and public health officials about what they needed to be done. I wish he hadn't put an unqualified rich kid in charge of the pandemic response. I wish that he had shown himself to be connected to reality and tried to lead a real government response in general, rather than acting the part of a reality TV character called "President Trump." I wish he wasn't morally incapable of feeling empathy and understanding the stakes of his actions. The CDC definitely screwed up the tests. The CDC is also run by the Trump administration. The reason that the New York governor says they need more ventilators is that more people are being hospitalized and put into the ICU every day. The need is continuing to grow. Should the governor wait until people are actually dying for want of ventilators to ask for them? China should definitely be blamed for their response to the virus and for covering it up. Trump should also be blamed for trusting them (which, again, I take it is the current defense - that the Chinese tricked him with their lies). The US was undoubtedly going to be hit by the virus, just like every other country in the world. Trump has undoubtedly made the problem worse, and more people will die because of it. The issue isn't that the people who attend the games themselves would get sick, it's that large gatherings facilitate the spread of the disease in general. To get the spread under control requires social distancing and gathering tens of thousands of people together in one building is the precise opposite of that. Exactly. This graph shows the importance of social distancing during an outbreak, and is easy to see play in real life out when you compare what protective measures countries like Taiwan have done compared to Iran. ![](https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/ljarh_ngto7aQq67AqeIC5ePAuA=/0x0:1497x841/1120x0/filters:focal(0x0:1497x841):format(webp):no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/19780273/flattening_the_curve_final.jpg)

I was presenting at a conference close to the campus of New Mexico State University, and had originally planned to stop by and see Nick Gonzales play. Ended up grabbing some drinks with colleagues instead. Checked this morning and saw that Nick hit 5! homeruns during the double-header. twitter.com/i/web/status/1233924352359325696
