Miguel Bleis is in the lineup - batting second and playing CF - for the DSL Red team. Anyone know what happened with Bleis? Seems like he singled, stole a base and then replaced by pinch runner. Is that correct? Could be nothing but could have been an awkward slide. Anyways, it was great to see him in the lineup.

I'm curious which teams offered him $3M. KC? Colorado? I'd include Baltimore but they don't seem to have a plan.

Anybody else worried that Salazar hasn’t doubled today? If it makes you feel any better, the Sox don't have any XBH in that game. And to Salazar's credit he tried to make up for lack of double by getting caught stealing.

Blaze Jordan was removed from the FCL game with an injury after the opposing team tripled. No real way to know what happened. Collision at third or something like that. ADD: He’s apparently well enough to start in the second game today unless that’s a box score error. Game log for the first game had an opposing player triple, then a injury delay, and Jordan was removed from the game. Who knows what happened at this point. He's in the second game and still playing. Not sure what happened to him in the completion game from June.

Hi guys I think Perez and Richards are gunners. Mata is coming back at some point. So I believe rotation will be Sale, Eovaldi, Withlock, Pivetta and Houck. Seabold, Crawford and Mata for remaining spot Unlikely Eduardo is coming back Mata is not coming back next year and even if he did it would be unlikely him cracking the rotation.

Lyonel James slowly moving up the charts. Started slow but up to .320, and using the box score scouting, batting cleanup. Saw a picture of him somewhere. He's like Chris Sale skinny. Plenty of room for physical maturation.

10 errors in the DSL Red Sox Red game. 9 runs total. 1 earned. Yikes!

First I've heard anything of Wilkelman Gonzalez. "Winkleman", as I call him, was one of the prospects I've followed, along with Vaughn, from the DSL. I liked their reports and someone else that had seen them prior to the DSL season had brief write-ups (one sentence) on a few of the prospects and those two I really liked what was said. If I find the post I will bump the thread. Winkleman was someone on the map, along with several other DSL prospects. There were lots of glowing reports about several prospects but Wink's caught my eye, along with Vaughn. I think I liked the reports on Gabe Jackson and Bryan Gonzalez as well. Now we have more than one sentence about Winkleman to go on. Edit: bump from 2020

I may be in the minority who thinks Mayer is our #1 prospect right now. I thought only him and Leiter would deserve to be ranked that high. Will have to wait for Mayer to absolutely crush FCL in a few weeks for this board to put Mayer where he deserves come September. Only reason he isn’t 1 is he wasn’t consensus top pick in this draft. I’ll go ahead and blame COVID and the over the top restrictions in his state. He basically lacked enough exposure to be a lock.

Between Bleis, Chacon, Lira, Jhostnyxon, Rosario, Lyonell, Johnfrank Salazar, Liendo, Castro, and Ravelo there’s a ton of guys in the DSL to watch out for. That’s not even counting the pitchers. Probably going to be one of the most exciting DSL seasons in awhile with essentially two international classes rolled into one. that and it should be a loaded FCL team next year.

At 346, the Red Sox select Christopher Troye, RHP, UC Santa Barbara. Talk about "wild thing"! Damn!

Red Sox select Niko Kavadas, 1B, Notre Dame! I didn't want to jinx it so I didn't mention his name. Niko the Nuke Bomb! Great job by SP staff identifying him in the Draft Preview as a possible pick. I won't mention what round though ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

So here's a thought. For all of the lamenting of the Red Sox winning 5 of their last 7 to finish with the 4th pick instead of, say, the 2nd, if Mayer signs for something looking like slot, whereas he might've signed for more if they'd had an earlier pick and taken him there anyway, is it possible that they wound up better off picking 4th? (Answer is probably still no because it is a factor in every round, as well as their bonus cap, but still... something to think about once we know his bonus.) They also got the best R5 guy at 4 too. If the Red Sox had both Mayer and Leiter available to them, do they still take Mayer? That's the only belly aching I have. My major question is: if the Tigers took Mayer, instead of Jobe, who would the Red Sox have drafted? Someone ask Bloom/Toboni please. I gots to know.

Tommy Mace could be a pick. I don't know about his bonus demands but they were pretty high last year. He didn't pitch all that great and he just needs to be more consistent. He was hit pretty hard at times but also had some dominant outings. He may have grown since last year so he may still be getting comfortable with his coordination. Sounds stupid, I know. But he should be considered.
Edit: other than that, sign me for either Matt Mikulsi or Andrew Abbott.

I think Groome gets shut down before August rolls around. He hasn't pitched in like 3 years. His innings may get capped at around 90 though that is just a guess. If he keeps up pitching well he'll get a shot at Portland (for a couple of starts) just to get a taste of what's to come next year.

We had a chance at the second pick in the draft but went on to win 5 of last 7. It might cost us the player Sox covet most (Mayer and/or Leiter). I am also one of the minority that will not be ecstatic about the Crash Davis pick. Looks like he's the odds on favorite. I do think we'll get a good prospect with 2nd rounder as well.
I told people months ago to stop talking about how good Mayer looks, but nooooooooooo.
Now I'm going to go read Mike's draft preview article.

For those who were very concerned about Yorke and his assignment to Salem, you can drop the frown. I'd caution against early season judgements when just a few games have been played. That's a small sample by definition. Watching last nights video (thanks SoxStats...), what was most impressive was the way he was shooting balls to all fields. He got out the nine iron and the driver and they all performed. He looks like a hitter. That's great to hear. I hope Yorke and Jordan work out well. I would still have taken either PCA or Garrett Mitchell last draft. PCA is hurt, I see, but Mitchell has been as advertised.

Does anyone else throw up a little every time they read "Trey Ball"?
I am very upset about Mayer. He's the only player I'm really high on. I like some of the other prospects but think Mayer will turn out to be a beast.

Another fun name at 40... 3B Wes Kath. Since we know all prospect work out this would give us a future infield of Kath, Mayer, Yorke, and Casas. Easy peasy. Why would they even pitch to him in that situation? smh

Could definitely be hindsight bias, but I recall the loaded 2011 draft (Cole, Bauer, Rendon, Lindor, Baez just in the first 10 picks) being well thought of at the time as well. I don't recall any hype around 2005, and look how that turned out. This was the year I read bought BA draft issue because the Sox had so many early picks. I read all the scouting reports and came away like WOW, there's a lot of good prospects here. I also remember wanting the Sox to draft Buchholz. He dominated in college, had a lot pitches in his arsenal and only issue was the computer theft.
