IIRC, they generally didn't throw as hard. Hitting 90 meant something when I was a kid and that was just the early 90's. No, we've raised a generation of pu$$ies, plain and simple. With their load management and such. We'll never see anything close to Cal Ripken or even in basketball when a player goes all 82 games, or even close to it, playing 40 minutes per game in an era where players were being body slammed almost nightly. Yes it took it's toll. But the games were more fun to watch. Some careers were cut short. This generation, and one prior, are a bunch a sucker punching/kicking "tough guys". Sorry if some of you fit in that category but it's true. Go in the woods and have keg parties and piss on a tree (or squat behind a bush) instead of staring at your smartphone and doing the least amount of work possible at your job. Be one with nature.

SEC schedules start Friday night. I can’t wait to see how some of these guys perform. blogs.fangraphs.com/another-scouting-notes-10-pack-3-16-2021/Gunnar Hoglund, RHP, Mississippi: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 14 K Hoglund is well known to scouts. One of the better prep arms in the 2018 draft, the Pirates failed to sign the Florida high school product after selecting him with the 36th overall pick, leaving him Oxford (Mississippi, not the fancy UK school) bound. It must suck to not sign someone drafted that high and have him turn into a something you thought he'd be.

I love this kid!!!! If Rocker and Leiter are gone. I’m taking him or Adrian Del Castillo. I can’t wait for this draft it’s going to be a fun one! The more we watch this kid and get reports on his progress, the more people will realize he is just a notch below ARod and Junior Griffey (phenom level) and will lock up the one spot by May unless someone outperforms him (tall task). This kid seems to be getting better by the day. I'm surprised he is not getting more attention, as far as some form of televised games.

I have a feeling that our 2nd round pick would be a first rounder in most drafts.

Stop talking about Marcelo Mayer or the Sox will not draft him.

Speier reporting that the Sox are getting three PTBNL. I wish they didn't already name the names they named.

F Pedroia. He now reminds me of Luther from the Warriors. "It's wasn't us. It was them, the Warriors", screaming from the dugout when the Sox tried to hit Machado.

Chris, there were some really good SS prospects available out of Venezuela this year.
The other part (bigger prize in the draft) was kind of a joke.
Also, did the Sox get docked some IFA money for the "cheating" scandal?

Would have been nice to get one of the top 3 or 4 SS's out of Venezuela. Sox have been signing a lot of kids out of there the past few of years. I know they have a cap but still... ....maybe they have their eye on a bigger prize (Lawlar or Mayer).

Marcelo Mayer is going to be in the bigs by 2024. Book it.
NCAA baseball still looks to be on track to start in 5 weeks. It won't be normal, we know that, but it's still real baseball.
A lot of eyes will be following the likes of Lawlar and Mayer from the prep ranks but it'll be nice to follow the top college kids. Lots of baseball on TV and streaming services. We'll have more than enough scouting updates on a weekly basis. Fun, Fun, Fun!

A name to keep an eye on is Mike Vasil. He had a strong commitment to UVA but he's a local kid that I wanted the Sox to draft. Big kid. Good stuff. He could be in play with our 2nd pick but could also go in the first. If we go position player with 1st pick there could be a plethora of quality college arms to choose from with 2nd pick. Last time we had 2 picks in top 40 was ('14). Chavis and Kopech and Chavis was pick 26. We should get 2 stud prospects.

It’ll be weird having Song in top 10 because it looks like he’ll be out again next year.

There's a difference between should have and will have. To me, we should have 4 top 50 prospects in whatever order. Duran, Casas, Mata and Houck. Mata is going to fly way below everyone's radar, he might not even make top 100. Will the 4th overall pick be ranked in the MLB top 50? (precedent says yes) I doubt he will be ahead of Casas but very well could/should be the 2nd ranked prospect on SP list. Sorry if this was already discussed. I must have missed it.

Yeah, it's fun to look at the "current" top prospects and see what options we may have. It's also fun to know that we have 4 of the top 100 (more like 105) picks in the upcoming draft. I think MLB would have said something by now if current standings don't count for 2021 draft. It's never too early for evaluations. SP draft team will have field day next year. Hope you guys pick some studs.

Since we're probably going to be following him as one of the top prospects in the draft let's spell his name correctly before it's too late and he has to change it for our benefit: JORDAN LAWLAR...with an A.
And I think it's time to sit the top 4 in our lineup.

Unless some rumors are true about draft order, the Red Sox may be blowing a golden opportunity by winning games they aren't really supposed to win. When have they drafted in top 3? When will they draft in top 3 again? C'mon and lose. Fans are rooting for losses. Maybe if Buck Showalter was manager of the O's we'd get swept. He loved sticking it to the Saux!

BRADY HOUSE---Just read up on him. He's the guy we should be hoping and praying that we are able to draft. His stock is dropping a bit. Has swing and miss issues against good pitching in recent showcases. Still young and should concentrate on being a position player. Next spring will be exciting for us Sox fans. 2 top 40 picks.

I'm on the Leiter train. This guy was already a first round talent before he got to Vandy. Now people are sleeping on him because of teammate. Me too. His stuff is not overpowering but the whole package screams to me a very good big league pitcher. Add to that an effortless/easy/repeatable delivery and three plus pitches and he's a candidate for a top 3 selection.

Jaden Hill (RHP, LSU) is someone to keep an eye on as he could be available where the Sox pick (top 15). The pick could be higher if we don't win the majority of the 10-8 games we'll see due to lack of pitching. This post was back in July but I didn't really think we would be in line for a top 5 pick. There was some concern back then that Hill's FB is "too straight". We'll see what he has if/when they play next spring.

God I hope they don’t draft a shortstop. Unfortunately for you McClain and Lawlar will be in the mix, depending on draft position and upcoming (hopefully) season. You never know what will happen if Xander opts out (not that it will have an impact on the upcoming draft).
