Is Machamer still on a team? I thought he was on the "cutting room floor"...literally.

Im taking these answers as head says Mitchell who seems to have the floor of high contact, high base stealing, no doubt center fielder with an arm, and the heart says Abel.....that unicorn Boston just hasn’t been able to produce in a decade plus, the Ace. PS, reports already having Abel putting on weight and hitting 100..he’s def my draft prospect crush. Honestly, the hitting 100 thing makes me want Abel significantly less. The main reason high school pitching scares me is that it seems like the injury risk is so much higher, and if he's throwing 100 for the sake of throwing 100 I just worry that it's coming at the expense of his arm. You should have read the article and what the catcher said about Abel. .....former Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman. Rutschman told Baseball America that he couldn't believe the pitches he caught came from a high school pitcher, and that "you rarely see an arm that good," adding that Abel's repertoire is "electric" and "smooth." Also this: He's got an easy motion that looks as if he's just getting warmed up when the fastball is coming out of his three-quarters arm slot in the mid-90s. The video clips prove an effortless delivery as well. Yes, HS prospects are the riskiest of all draftees. But some also turn out to be stars and we need to draft and develop some of our own.

I think I would flip a coin.
Mitchell: for such a big guy he shows only glimpses of power. Where is the power, Garrett? He is a solid CF so that is a plus. I don't see a middle of the order bat but rather a 2 hitter.
Abel: could be a top of the rotation starter. Should fill out, which he needs, to sustain velocity later into games. The lack of spring ball really throws a wrench into whether to take a HS arm over a proven CF prospect. It could also be a blessing as with a strong spring Abel could have possibly been a top 10 pick so you could be picking a Groome-type talent at 17.
I would definitely flip a coin.

Not many folks linking the Red Sox to Ed Howard but he's a guy I like a lot at #17 Good field, modest hit, smallish? from Fangraphs: TLDR Howard is one of the best shortstop defenders in this class, he hit against elite peers on the showcase circuit, and his frame suggests he'll grow into relevant power..... ...... He projects as an everday big league shortstop. I'd say there's considerable talent there. And no, he is NOT on the small side.

Based on reports teams looking for below slot signees in the first round (which I think is a good idea w/5 round draft) I can definitely see a HS prospect slide down to the Sox. Be it Abel, Veen, Hassell or Kelley, sign me up.

I would be ecstatic if they got Crochet Agreed. Him or the other lefty from L'ville, Detmers. Not sure he lasts that long though.

I hope John Henry leaks something via Boston Globe. It's possible he put pressure on Manfred to give him an answer since the investigation is completed.

How much further does our system rank without Song? It's a good question. I think he'd make it in the top 5 (edit: top 5 overall on Sox Prospects list) easily if he played this year.

He should have had the surgery last year. The injection he had didn't give me much hope he'd return healthy. At least he would have been ready for 2021. Now this. Very disappointing. We all know he would have been a walking time bomb anyways. See you in August of 2021.

Unless MLB starts investigating some other teams I say MLB should go light on the Sox. I'll be surprised if they do though. I've always expected a harsh, about a third of what Houston received, penalty so I hope the article is correct and we only get fined and maybe lose two 3rd rounders.

First I've heard anything of Wilkelman Gonzalez. On my list to hopefully try and see at Ft myers this summer. Few this year high end kids potentially the GCL Sox could have. Don't "try", see the post directly above yours and "just do it".

Without going into too much detail because a BA subscription is totally worth it: Lopez: advanced hitter with questions on his defense. Vaughan: was toolsy when he signed but tools have ticked up since then. Gonzalez: raw power with a feel for hitting Santana: solid hitter with upside for power, chance to stay in CF Feliz: plus raw power Jackson: potential to get up into the mid-90s, needs work on secondaries Marcano: chance to stay behind the plate, also has hit well in games Bonaci: small and wiry but chance to stay at SS; needs to get stronger Romero: smooth defense at SS W. Gonzalez: labeled as one of the biggest risers from the crop, profiles as a starter with a three pitch mixPaulino: no standout tool, but has hit well in games Reyes: has a high-spin rate curveball and has worked into the lower 90s with the FB Winkelman! Gonna a have a field day with his name, especially if he "rises" through the ranks. I like the Vaughan comment as well. Found the posts that I replied to philsbosoxfan in the National Outlet Rankings thread.

First I've heard anything of Wilkelman Gonzalez. "Winkleman", as I call him, was one of the prospects I've followed, along with Vaughn, from the DSL. I liked their reports and someone else that had seen them prior to the DSL season had brief write-ups (one sentence) on a few of the prospects and those two I really liked what was said. If I find the post I will bump the thread.

In case folks were confused like me, I think the 16 lists are that site's 16 staffers' lists. I thought it was supposed to be an aggregate and was very confused. I think people are going to sleep on Mata because of his struggles after being promoted to AA. That is silly if true. He'll still be 20 when the season starts as well. Are they overlooking that fact or just waiting for better production in AA in 2020? They will have to come up with some kind of excuse mid-season as to why he didn't get even one vote.

Looks like everyone is the same, just in different order, except for D. Hernandez, who the SP have as a graduated prospect.

I didnt start out picking a fight. I started out saying i thought that it is absolutely Dombrowski’s call on who gets drafted early. Internet guy then came out with my thought was insane and to let me know he DID NOT like my post lol.I specifically said that i didn’t believe Dombrowski would be the go to guy in the later rounds and I would also assume he wouldnt want to be. The thousands of hours the scouts put in are so they can paint a concise picture of the different players to management and narrow it down just so Dombrowski can pick from a much smaller field. Even Belichick isnt looking through every single college football player. That is insane, however, it is not what I am saying. Much like DD, he looks at what are the consensus top players closely and lets his scouts tip him off to players that may be Patriot types later in the draft. Actually, Belichick may be superhuman so its possible he does scout every single player lol. I took it as him not knowing that you could un-like a post. But welcome to the board anyway. I think Pats scouts narrow down the draft pool to about 50-60 players so Bellichick will know all of those really well. The rest would never be drafted by them no matter how much talent they had. Not to go slightly off topic but this part is true. The Patriots have one of, if not the, smallest draft boards of all teams. One other thing the Pats are good at is knowing what needs other teams have and may move ahead of them to draft a player (see Gronk and Baltimore in 2010... we got stuck with hall of fame TE and Baltimore had to draft Ed Dickson instead in 3rd round). That sometimes backfires on them and the opposite happens.
