I don’t understand the “Red Sox owners are screwups” narrative being pushed by some. Fallible sure...but is this not the most successful franchise this century save maybe like the patriots? I mean Jesus every other city would kill for Henry and company”s results...what am I missing? So darn true. I, as a Red Sox fan of over 60-years, will take this ownership group over ANY we've ever had. It is down right silly we even have this conversation. For many years the Sox were a joke. I would gladly take another period from 2004 to 2018 over the next 15 to 20 years. Sign me up! Some of the posters are spoiled. Give me Henry and Werner anytime! Calling them screwups is preposterous, but it’s been one of the strangest runs of dominance in any sport. During that stretch of four World Series, they’ve had so many moments of being a circus - Theo leaving Fenway in a monkey suit, the Bobby Valentine debacle, multiple runs of worst to first, smearing several players and managers on their way out the door, etc. I think a lot of the dislike for Henry and co. is justified (particularly for the smear campaign they ran against Francona), but they’re one of the most successful ownerships in all of sports. Personally, my biggest issue with them is that they seem to change their organizational philosophy whenever the wind blows. One year, they want to build the farm system and be fiscally responsible, and then after one down season, they’re pushing for the team to throw money at guys like Pablo Sandoval. That has to make it hard for any GM to build the organization his way.

I never thought anyone would be as bad as MLB umps, but NFL and NBA refs are making a run at it.

Ok Dr. umass. He did have an injury riddled season and was reticent about it when asked last night. The announcers even said last game how much bounce he had in his step compared to a point earlier in the year. Arthritis only gets worse, not better. He won't get more rest than he got this year getting months and months of rest before the playoffs. If you're hoping for a better version going forward I don't see how that is possible. This isn't an injury that rest or surgery can fix. He just had a full off season worth of down time. I'm certainly not a doctor, yet it sure seems given the shot he got, that his issues are arthritis from loss of cartilage due to knee surgeries. It doesn't grow back and you can't fix it with surgery. You just manage the flare ups and his most recent one had him down for months. Hence my bench role and limiting his minutes going forward. Plus teams won't focus just on him. I hope I'm dead wrong, yet go back and read what RJP posted, it all makes sense. Main reason why I look to take two guards in the draft. I’m obviously not a doctor, but the type of injury Kemba has sounds like one where he’ll be more explosive some nights than others (similar to Kawai). It’s not like an ankle sprain, where he’ll be limited physically until it heals.

Nothing to do with Kemba, I'm not even sure he was fully healthy for the playoff run. I'd explore trading Hayward. And I really think Tatum is here for the long run. Kemba was neutralized on offense with the zone scheme from Toronto and Miami.. ..and he was absolutely murdered on the defensive side of the ball. He was routinely hunted in the pick and roll against Miami. Nary a single Boston breakdown didn’t involve someone having to switch for Kemba. Who says no, Julius Randle and the 8th pick (Vassel, Okongwu, Maxey, maybe Hayes) for Kemba Walker? I say no. Ainge would simply laugh and hang up the phone without bothering to answer.

Kemba was not fully healthy, but his knee injury sounds manageable. There were games where the explosiveness wasn’t all the way there, but I don’t think that explains some of his cold spells at the end of the Toronto series/early in the Miami series.
With that being said, he’s simply not a bench player at this stage of his career. He might be better suited for that role in 2-3 years, but not right now.

Good thing Brad called that timeout with 26 seconds left. Such a trash in-game coach.

Yet another choke in crunch time. And you have to love Brad siting on his hands and not using a timeout until the Heat were up 7, and then not using his challenge on a clear charge.
This team needs a dose of toughness for next season. They are as soft as it gets.

You cannot make a worse coaching decision than Stevens going back to Theis there.

Mark Davis is a piece of human garbage. Staring right at the play and doesn’t make a call there.

Stevens’ adjustment is to put Grant and Wannamaker in together with the season on the line.

Smart’s bricks and turnovers are absolutely killing this team. And yet he hasn’t seen the bench yet. 👀 They played best with him on the bench.

It’s inexplicable that Marcus never gets benched when he’s shooting his team out of the game.

It’s also funny that Marcus was yelling at teammates in the locker room after Game 2 when he’s straight up stunk all series. But when you’re allowed to take bad shots without being held accountable, that will continue to happen.

They showed up to a must-won game with zero heart, and proceeded to not use their brains either. Really a pitiful series by this team, there’s no other word to describe it.
