THAT is a shocker to me Chris. I remember when BJ was drafted and the buzz was he could sit low 90's and reach back for 93-95mph when needed and that never happened. Seem to recall around 93 was all he ever had and if he can get to that again, after 7y when he has to and pitch consistently with 91-2? he might be able to work as a back end starter. My fears are he was "shot" with a "hot" gun like my bushnell that reads 1-2mph hot often.

I did see Lucroys bases loaded missile today but it looks like Plawecki is having a better spring overall It’s of course like sub-20 ABs each tho so it’s tough to draw much from it lol True but, I'm not so sure it wouldn't be more of a case of their histories over their spring performance with the big question being health. Plaweki is your basic reasonably high profile prospect that never reached projections and wasn't tendered by the Mets. Lucroy is your basic All-Star bat who ran into health issues that are hypothetically resolved. It's been a while though since he was healthy so there are questions there as well. If Lucroy is healthy and back to old form, he would potentially be one hell of a trade deadline chip. ADD: Plawecki is a major league contract with no options. Lucroy is a minor league contract. If they went with Lucroy, they would have to DFA or release Plawecki. With Lucroy believe there is a possibility of some upside once again to his former self. Not the AS self, but enough to not be a major let down whenever C-Vaz isn't playing like last year whenever leon came in and was an automatic out. Like you said about Plawecki.. He's one of the many failed prospects who never quite realized their potential. Sure, he can play defense at close to leon level, but is another empty hole in the lineup comes around and why believe Lucroy is a better gamble at this point, exposing him to outright waivers or not.

It's spring training. They are only warming up to the over priced and larger dogs everyone is used to..

Has there ever been a happy ending to stories like this? Eight months of rest, an injection and still having issues, then bounces back not needing surgery? Can someone give me a little hope? Price and Tanaka come to mind. Believe it was Andrews himself who said that Price had some kind of "super" ligament in his elbow?

Guessing the most severe thing is another shot of that plasma enriched platelets he had in September, maybe only rest.
I'm with Phil on the blogger medical expertise.. I'd rather go with what the Sox are doing than take a survey of fans, just like listen to any part of the media who give opinions on pretty much any topic. Henry is the guy with 150m invested here, not individual fans and it's about time ppl remember that.

Multiple long/swing types now on 26 man roster to open the season. Velazquez, probably Johnson as well and Weber.
Close your eyes in April and hope both Eovaldi/Rodriquez are very sharp. That's the rotation as of now.

Fortunately for you guys, I don’t have the power lol. Just looking at it from a standpoint of the 26 man roster. If Myers does indeed come here, what does that do to Chavis’s playing time? If they DFA Myers, then nothing I suppose. Or they could start Chavis off in AAA. Would you rather have Campusano or Arias? I don’t look at it at a five year rebuild either. I’m looking at it as get the best talent you can, when you can. You're not considering the most probable scenario with Chavis - starting 2b and Myers wouldn't have anything to do with that. Really, Myers' presence would block Dalbec more than it would Chavis. But it's not an immediate concern. Dalbec could use more time at AAA. It's so obvious, like past the point of being simple tto figure out. Myers plays corner OF/1b/DH and Chavis moves into 2b FT. It's not like he won't improve a little over time and wasn't awful last year regardless. Why so much repetition on every subject lately for simple things is just.. It's on most topics also.

Quite the opposite: 16 Mike Foltynewicz 94.9 17 Anthony DeSclafani 94.7 18 Justin Verlander 94.7 19 Trevor Bauer 94.6 20 Cal Quantrill 94.5 21 Charlie Morton 94.4 22 Adrian Houser 94.4 23 Tyler Beede 94.3 24 Lucas Gioliton 94.3 (That's average fastball velo, 2019, minimum 100 innings pitched.) I mean, sure, fastball velo isn't everything, but he throw the sinker as his primary pitch (611 of them) and hitters had a .123 ISO against it -- in the bouncy ball year, remember. If nothing else he's got a solid base to build on in that pitch. Without the bad performance you're citing, a pitcher with that kind of base skill wouldn't be available in the first place. On Quantrill — there are a lot of guys who throw hard that never make it in the big leagues. He throws hard — but people can obviously hit the ball off him, which tells me he lacks life. So I looked at some video quickly, and you can see what the numbers suggest — a fastball that has velocity with no life that got him through college and to the big leagues, but probably won’t work against guys who can hit a 95 mph fastball. What I also saw was that his catcher was framing very well, getting him calls that were out of the zone (which you can see in the video). I think he is expendable because they already figured this out. Read in one article.. Believe was posted here way back on this thread where Quantril had "good life" pre-TJ on his FB, but it seems to have flattened out somewhat since. Now that was 4y ago since the surgery and article also said (as remember) his split change was main weapon. San Diego Union article perhaps? It was quite good look at the kid, tho believe was from like July of 2019.

You said he couldn't hit fastballs down the middle, he can't hit high fastballs. Something he acknowledged and had never been an issue before for him. The four squares in the middle he hit 72.25%, for example Devers in his first full year in 2018 hit 80.75%. That isn't the issue, it's the 40 and 50% high in the zone. The guy has plus bat speed, this is an adjustment issue. Not a he's being exposed because he doesn't have the bat speed to hit fastballs. As you see he's elite in the lower half of the zone. Get back at me if it happens again next year. I'd worry a lot more if he couldn't hit off speed pitches. It's what Baseball is, all about adjustments. Yet for some reason you have gone out of your way to trash him in every way possible. Post after post after post. Acting like he has zero chance to improve and that he's Middlebrooks. 72.25% right down the middle for fastballs is quite bad and it's also blue, as in below average. I'm not acting like he has zero chance to make adjustments, but he DOES need to make them and hasn't shown that he can do it as of yet. When I said: "He has a huge adjustment to make before he's the next Will Middlebrooks." that is not saying that he cannot make adjustments and that is not saying that he is the next Middlebrooks. What is interesting is that his swinging strike % is far higher than Middlebrooks' ever was. Interesting thing was Middlebrooks continued to get pass after pass on this site for his wild swing, inability to differentiate FB from off speed pitches, swing at pitches in his eyes all during his career, yet have seen Chavis get several of these thrown at him for years. Reason?? Was Middlebrooks the fair-haired-boy, who couldn't be touched.. Until all those faults became apparent on the big stage some of us wouldn't overlook? While Chavis is "just" some normal prospect? Not the 1st time noticed this hyping crap pulled either, but one of the worst cases.

I don't understand why people are trying to move Bradley in this deal. Did demainah finally win subliminally? Also, the Padres don't need an outfielder in return. They moved Margot because they were deep there. Per Fangraphs Roster Resource, their current lineup has Pham-Grisham-Franchy left to right, with Naylor, Trammell, and Olivares all in AAA. They have depth in the outfield still. If the point for SD is to shed Myers' contract, I'm not sure why an $11M JBJ in return would be something they'd be interested in either. I don’t think they would want JBJ nor do I think we should trade him. IMO, Chavis would be one that would be moveable. He’s got more trade value that could net us more prospect return. Chavis is also the only person the Sox have who can play 2b for when/if peraza flops again at the position, outside of recently outrighted marco hernandez and utility players Lin, Rule 5 Arauz.. doubt he's going anywhere now that Holt has signed with Milwaukee. Also can see taking on Myers being attached to acquiring some kind of a young pitcher. Just look at what is left via FA.. it's barren now and they didn't get any kind of a pitcher back in the Betts deal with 2 AAAA retreads making up (now) the last 2 spots in the rotation. Another starter has to be brought on and getting another young starter is more important than a kid catcher.

1) He has pneumonia. 2) it’s the second day of spring training. 3) the man is ill. He needs to focus on getting better. Not forcing himself to play through illness to satisfy some random guy on the internet. I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. He will be fine. This is easy to deal with as I've dealt with pneumonia before. I think it's better for him to take it slow. There is no need to rush him in the spring. This being said, he can kick this in very little time with proper fluids and rest. It's spring weather already. Dunno how hot in south Florida, but central has been mid 80's most days lately.

He's a decent bullpen play, but I think only that. He was given one more run as a starter by the Astros last year, it went badly, and they never gave him another shot at it despite churning through a bunch of other guys and eventually going out and getting Greinke. Rich Hill exists so never say never I guess, but within the realm of realistic outcomes I see him as a pure reliever at this point. Maybe. He had four straight excellent starts, then had a four-start stretch in late April and early May where eight out of 35 fly balls went out of the ballpark. He gave up 24 runs in 18 innings in those four starts, and had a 2.38 ERA in the rest of his 56 2/3 innings. And, like I said, if he's toast as a starter then so what? You move him to the bullpen where he's arguably their best reliever. Could see McHugh getting a chance, but only with minimal dollars and think he could probably now get 3m or so as a reliever if he wanted. My problem is don't see Weber as anything. No real starters beyond 3 and 2 health risks. No real starters at Pawtucket other than Houck who would qualify as potential MLB caliber and only 2 probably headed to Portland in Mata/Ward and no way those 2 ready this year. Can see no way the team can make it relying on some combo of Weber/Johnson/Velazquez/Perez/Hart to get much of anything close to a playoff caliber team's expected results from that crew. There has to be minimum 1 solid veteran addition, or close to MLB SP prospect.

Theory used to be when giving up a pitcher to try and get some kind of 1 back in return. Prospect of some type at the least and they bypassed all of LA's here for some reason here is my only issue with the deal even though total value coming back climbed.

This is all good stuff on Downs I'll wait and see till he hit in a pitchers league and not the most hitter friendly league in all of MiLB over a fair period of time.

Ian Browne suggests that the Dodgers could just throw in more money for Price, instead of throwing in another prospect. That sounds exciting. Eyeroll. I don't know why the Gonsolin is a seemingly untouchable piece to give up. I was wondering why LA wouldn't help figure this out since it seems the Twins couldn't. Would have been happy myself with just the extra inclusion of a Ferguson, even if Boston had to send LA a low odds wild card in return.. Such as a Bello type.

Who knows what is going to happen at this point? Same ones pounding Boston/Henry for the deal now are the same ones will pound them if/when he walks away for nothing and they fail to resign him. Same way half the fanbase has ALWAYS been. Please don't attempt to placate those who cannot be pleased and do what is right.. Move him when can for the right price.

Mods can we please move this topic to a different thread? I don’t come here to read this crap. To the gas pipe if anything else. It's devolved into mud slinging if anything else. Norm, Chris, James.. Someone please dump all these garbage posts (mine also) somewhere so we can just read relevant posts instead on all this nonsense.. PLEASE.

NYP has an article stating the Twins had plans to use Graterol as a reliever due to his "violent motion" and to protect his arm from a link to another 1/25 article from the Minnesota Star Tribune. Maybe Boston FO thought better and could change his motion and found more damage in the medicals? i am kind of confused here: Minnesota star tribune

Describe to me his association with the sexual assault. He stood there and watched a drunk girl get beat up by other drunk girls. What a demon. If I were to criticize him for standing there as a drunk teen and watching somebody get beat up I would be a hypocrite. It’s obviously preferable that he would have stopped that but again, He’s a drunk teen. As long as he isn’t doing the assaulting I do not care From what I read on SOSH, he wasn't part of the assault, but if I read it correctly, he was taping what was going on. If I misread it, I apologize profusely, but if I understood it correctly, he was recording it. That's not something to be proud of, to say the least, and it makes me uncomfortable with him being on my team, not that it matters how I feel. Makes it feel like I'm only rooting for laundry in his case, particularly when I contrast that with Mookie sneaking out to feed the homeless. Between that and past immaturity issues, perhaps that's why the Dodgers haven't blinked when putting him on the trade block. I hope his past immaturity issues are in the past and he's learned from his mistakes, but it's not a good look to say the least - if what I interpreted was correct. Admit know nothing of said fight Verdugo was at/involved with, but let me say... 1) If it was guys involved instead would this be a big deal? 2) I ask mostly former older service members this. Involvement in fisticuffs.. Generally over nothing and often at places not within the US was pretty common anyway where alcohol was both cheap and branches mixed. Seeing 20+ going at it at any one time might have led to minor charges at most often dropped and payment of damages to some establishment if overseas. From what have just seen on posts and HAVE NOT READ on charges.. The kid was no more involved in a drunken brawl and wasn't even a participant. show me a former swabby, jarhead etc. that never was and i'll show u a liar.

It's katy-bar-the-door time now, as in to damn late. Players know the deal was attempted to get done and now it's "never mind" "all is well". It don't work like that. Have to worry now about each player having it in the back of their mind if they stay put and what if the Sox continue to try and trade him? You think this offer was bad (I didn't by the way). Wait until offers come in after a nixed.. Publicly announced trade! I've never seen so much whining on this site as over this deal the last 2 days. One other question. Why are you surprised that there's no much angst over this deal? Try thinking of another time the Sox dealt away a player of Betts' caliber away during their prime? Nomar was post-prime. I don't think anybody was attached to Adrian Gonzalez to care about his departure. Carlton Fisk was a brutal, stupid unnecessary loss although I doubt anybody thought that at age 33 he had another 13 years left in his career. Freddy Lynn was a tough loss. He's the closest in recent memory, but even he couldn't do all the things Betts could. He couldn't run like Betts nor was he as great defensively. Who else is there who was squarely in their prime and traded away? I mean this kind of thing doesn't happen every day. Lynn, Carney Lansford. Sullivan group was flat out cheap, even if had Jean Yawkey's money (somewhat) behind it. Remember Sullivan almost single handedly dismantled those powerhouse late 70's teams. burleson, Fisk, Lynn.. Gave up future perenial AS's Reggie Smith and Cecil Cooper for pretty much Rick Wise and 1 decent year of George Scott. Sullivan may have been a nice guy (yes, I knew him somewhat), but as a GM/owner he was awful Mostly am sick of the chronic complaining and not necessarily urs. Probably picked wrong post to go off on myself. As to the previous post u made.. yes, the arm issue believe does need redress Another prospect, perhaps the Twinkies comp pick. Something tho from either LA/MN.

Great, so they did trade Betts and Price for an outfielder and a reliever. Perfect. He better be a lights out closer and/or whatever additional piece better be significant or else they really got taken in this trade. They thought they were getting a potential top of the rotation starter and instead he's just a reliever? Awful. Makes me wish they'd just undo the trade. It's katy-bar-the-door time now, as in to damn late. Players know the deal was attempted to get done and now it's "never mind" "all is well". It don't work like that. I actually feel a bit sorry for Verdugo. He has impossible shoes to fill in RF. And I doubt Red Sox fans, with their well deserved reputation for being very unreasonable at times, are going to cut him much slack. Oh I'd bet if he's playing opening day that he'd get booed. Something have long thought of, but will never happen because it's such a cash cow for every MLB team.. Ban liquor sales at stadiums and get instantly rid of 90% of the obnoxious fans screaming and cursing away what is supposed to be family entertainment.

There have to be other players coming to the Sox or this is a terrible deal. Betts alone for Verdugo and Graterol is light by player or two depending on the the level of the remaining player(s). Price for 3 yrs at $96MM is comparable to Greinke, and we got negative value for him and ate a bunch of money for negative value? That’s insane. Hazen got 3 players of value and ate no money trading Greinke at the deadline. Something is missing in the reports, or this was a bad, bad deal. And I believe trading Betts was absolutely the right thing to do. But something feels missing here. Exactly how I feel. Not totally against trading Mookie or Price. I understand the calculus. It's just that the return is so underwhelming. The trade that Gammons discussed for Mookie (Verdugo and Downs plus a pitcher) was in the right ballpark. Instead, we threw in Price (a true #2 starter), SUBSIDIZED HIS SALARY, and got back LESS then the initial report. I sure hope the Sox picked correctly with Graterol. Sox FO might have viewed Graterol as the potential front end SP that LA wasn't going to move and this was the only way to get him, as in bringing in another team. I admit some of the pitcher names thrown about were not super impressive from LA who were not followed by "unavailable" in other leaked news, other than perhaps ferguson and really.. Has Boston slacked the last 2-3 decades in developing middle infielders? I'll take a pitcher with that type of magical arm in graterol over jeter. This kid has the (so far) 2 pitches we can dream on and they are off the charts. He improves the change up and it's magical.

I think that’s a bad deal for minny They must really like Maeda Twins do have a history of not really spending big bucks and they are already over paying mediocre starters Gibson and especially Odorizzi. Can't slam the 4y at 3.5m each Maeda is owed. He starts 25-30g each year and he's the best they have.

I was talking about the board and the fact zero scouting reports mention it. They just say slight attitude issues right after being drafted. We've been talking about Verdugo since DD got fired and this just came up now. I'm amazed no Boston reporters have been on this. Makes you wonder! The longer this goes on, the more likely I am to find out that at age 12 Wil Meyers once stole a bike or that Gonsolin hates Avengers movies. Come to think of it, I know Mookie Betts does. Trade him. Maybe this is why stories/alleged misdeeds were buried of celebrities many years ago.. They knew how rumor mills and hype would blow up a finger scratch into an arm amputation.
