Sale pitched on Wed 20 Sep, Thu was an off day, so tomorrow would be 6 days.

It seems to me that the logical choice would have been to flip Sale and Pomeranz, start Sale today on normal rest, again Saturday on normal rest and in the playoff opener on normal rest. But what do I know? Assuming that Pom and Sale do not pitch (more than 1-2 innings) on 30 Sep/1 Oct, I would make today a bullpen game, Sale pitch tomorrow as scheduled, Pom on Wed, then rest until the first ALDS games (presuming that the Sox will win 3 of the remaining games, regardless of what MFY does). Porcello, ERod and Fister can each pitch 1 game of the series against the Astros, in part to see which of Porcello or Fister should be the game 4 starter, with one bull pen game in that series as well.

Let's say we begin the final series 3 games behind, win the first two against the Astros. Then we could get home field if we the next two. Would you want to start Sale in game 3 and Pom in 4? With the first alds game on 5 October?

So what is plan for SP? Sale and Pom should not need to pitch more than one of the remaining games. Any candidates to start the last two games? Or just a bullpen auditions?

I am hoping that Price will be ready to take the fourth SP spot, otherwise it will be between Porcello and Fister

being a starting pitcher would take away PA, assuming it's not good idea to pitch 6+ innings one day then play outfield the next. If he were an elite hitter, then this would not be good idea. I could see the value of a RP who can play some position, then do an inning in relief, in effect, having the equivalent of an extra roster spot. If, as the article points out, a team uses him in a rotation similar to Japan's (and then adjusts the other pitchers accordingly), he could be a DH/PH and get 350 or so ABs. Added bonus, 350 less ABs for Hanley... Dear Santa all I want for this xmas is Otani and for another team to take Hanley and his salary

It's too bad we didn't have Fister lined up against Kluber.

Come on people, Pomeranz vs. Kluber is a marquee matchup, no sarc.

Bullpen just combined to throw 3 perfect innings (with a GIDP to boot) without using the two best relievers. The depth in high end talent is awesome. I think we used our 2nd, 3rd and 4th best relievers, hembree has lots of innings but not as much b-war. But then again, if you are to bash a division opponent, you may as well do it with flair.

Our batting avg and runs per game is good. It just seems that we get shut out or 1r more often, i.e., streaky

People are gonna be mad when Brentz is hitting 40 HR for the Rays next year. (fun trolling) I see Rizzo, Reddick, Shaw, and brentz hitting 30HR for someone else next year

Devers two for two. Put him on the next plane to Boston. No need to rush Devers. But do have a private plane waiting at each Pawtucket game. ok, now that devers has a few ab, we can call him up

Kelly takes 30 pitches to go through 3 pa with a 102mph fb. I wish he would take off some velocity and get some movement

I would like to see Rusney get a Sep call up, assuming that his prorated salary for 2017 would fit under the cap. If he looks good, then by next spring, he could be given the following options: 1) continue to play in AAA, 2) find a team willing to take his salary and give us good AAA depth player, or 3) take a pay cut for a shot on the 25-man. For 3, he could get an opt out after 2018.

The best part about Lin has been that I haven't read one Travis Shaw post since he's been here. Mfy IBB Shaw to load the bases, next guy hits GS, denying Shaw of 3 run homer. Lin's been great, but he would benefit from another 3 months in AAA.

I wonder if the emergence of Lin will make Hernandez more expendable as a PTBNL in a deadline trade. There are only so many LHH utilitly players the Red Sox will need for 2018/2019. Last winter, we had one more 3B than we needed. No one is expendable unless we're getting an RP who will sit the year on the DL in return.

If Pablo + cash amounting to most of his remaining salary were traded to another team, that would free up the cap space he is eating for us? which would have value in its own right. Then we might need to package Pablo, cash and a couple of rule 5 candidates, getting nothing of value in return?
