RP is laboring out there, fortunate to hold in 5th (nice so). Not terrible but they are going to get on base as long as he's on hill. Need a few more runs. asked for and delivered!, now how about some fries

Could the Redsox buyout the remainder of his contract for say $12M, in exchange for a new contract of 3 years at 5M/yr, or whatever numbers to make it a wash or moderate discount?

I honestly don't know whether to laugh, cry, or stop spending time here. The last time Steven Wright was healthy, he was a legitimate All-Star starting pitcher. Hector Velazquez has, surprisingly, been a bit better than average this year. There will be indeed be room for just one of them to fill the role of mop-up reliever ... until any one of eight guys gets hurt, at which point there will be room for both.Even if Velazquez projected to be better than Wright, which is unclear at best, the notion that you would DFA an All-Star before seeing whether he could, you know, do that again at some point in the future, in order to (maybe but quite possibly not) upgrade the position of mop-up reliever, when you could send the other guy down to Pawtucket, thus keeping both your #6 and #7 starters in the organization .... Really, folks. Meanwhile, it now looks like Xander leads all MLB players with 50+ PA in wRC+. I do think we have more than enough starting/long relief pitchers for the 25-man plus AAA depth. No reason to hate or despise Wright in terms of talent. Lets find a way to get him and the others sufficient innings to see if we can get a good trade return. Then again this is Boston, what have you done for me lately/last. Tolerance for failure to deliver is not measured in inches/seconds, not miles/months

Letting Graveman face three guys the 3rd time around the order + sabermetric-oriented team = zero confidence in bullpen. Warranted? One can hope. Eric called this one

The Toronto ny game going on now has me conflicted. A Toronto loss gives us more of a division lead, but a Yankees lost just gives me good feelings regardless of the larger picture

I'm all for irrational exuberance, so I'm totally on board with 142-20. such a pessimist, if 160-2 is optimistic, I would back down to 159-3 per Eric's point, I am thinking we are not going to get an 8th inning RP for two 7th RP's, but perhaps adding Wright could do the trick. if not, the next higher value pieces in trade would be Johnson and Velazquez, but I am thinking each one of those two are more valuable than an 8th inning RP.

36 PA now for Xander's replacements. .375 / .444 / .563. He can take his time and come back when he's really ready. Xander will want to come back ASAP before he loses his roster spot

on Marco, being on the 60-day DL, does that mean he cannot come back for 60 days this season, or is it retroactive to when he went on the DL last season? second, does any one know when he might be back?

Not sure if it was intentional but the 4 pitch walk to Gonzalez was smart in not getting into another 14 pitch battle

If Pomeranz is slated for game 3, could we leave him off the initial 25 man roster for an extra RP, then swap in game 3?

unless we sweep Toronto and Astros get swept by the Rangers, we will be 2 or more behind the Astros going into the final series, meaning we would have to win at least 3 against the Astros, hence we would win the series, and get the tie breaker. I am assuming the MFY will not run the table and that we can win 2 of the remaining games, so I am inclined to say that Sale and Pom not pitch in the final series against the Astros
