If only Owens had a bit more command. He is too good for AAA, but the walks will destroy him in the majors

Just when you think Buchholz is gonna get back into your good graces for a moment, he sucks

I like Bogie, a lot, but his swing never looks on balance to me. If he kept things a bit quieter and balanced he could hit with more authority I think

Clay's gonna shove tonight and Bogey hits a bomb. Gameday thread peace will be upon us.

Also he could have hit Panda for Young in that spot as well (Still had Castillo to put in LF or Holt). Farrell seems like a good guy but the way he manages a game is sub-par and in tight games its evident

in what was supposed to be the coronation of the off-season, today has been about as bad it can be for Price and Kimbrel

I'm already tired of the Young PH ABs in the middle innings

^^mloyko is spot on there. I was initially concerned with the value of the trade, and I still have doubts, but I have come around to the thinking that this was the price of doing business in the market. They are not stupid in the FO and had to be working on things for a while in order to complete this deal that they clearly think is good for the team.

Mookie has had a GREAT year. He and Xander have made every game this season watchable for me. Played Mookie in an AAU tournament when we were both 16, never thought that the leadoff hitter named Mookie from Nashville would become one of my favorite players. how good was he then? Sorry for the delayed response, but he was pretty good. More athlete than baseball player at the time. Still he smacked a triple against us and showed his athleticism at shortstop.

So what do we do with Henry? He has had some bad outings, but his last few have been great. He generates swings and misses at a high rate. He has his warts (seems to be prone to homers, inconsistent control) but he could turn it on at some point if things click. What are your evaluations now that we have seen him for a couple months in the show.

All of this, plus there is s good chance they limit him to 5 inning starts. 120 IP with 5 inning games gets him pretty close to a full season. Mix in a couple skipped starts and he's there. Yeah, I would think that even though he's a bit younger at the same stage than Owens, Owens's 2012 at Greenville would seem like a reasonable innings-management blueprint for Espinoza (who I'm guessing finishes the year with 3-4 starts in Portland). I would guess 8-10 starts at Greenville, the same in Salem, 5 IP/75-80 pitch limit, a couple skips in dead-arm August, and then the move to Portland to see if he starts 2017 there. While I would LOVE for that to happen, that seems like a super aggressive movement for an 18 YO. If he continues to dominate like he did the two leagues he pitched in this year great, but I think I would pump the brakes on a Portland cameo appearance next year at this point.

I will withhold judgement on DD, but if he hires Frank Wren as GM I will lose it. The guy traded away ATL's whole system, signed BJ Upton, and had cost the Braves any semblance of a future by the time he was fired. If DD wants to have his role for a while he will be methodical and careful about who he lays in bed with (hires as GM).

In reference to the above post concerning the "fight": I think that it is hard to keep trying to get up every game when your starters routinely spot the other team 2-3+ runs early. At some point it just reaches a breaking point and the will to "fight" wanes. Not that it is a good thing, and they get paid a lot to put their all out there, but some human nature could set in.
Happy to see Bogie with a bomb today, and a lot of production from the young guys has me excited for next year already.

I think that the pitching depth (lack thereof) of the A-AA minors in combination with the complimentary org guys is the reason why the records are not good. If I look at it, we don't have a Mauro Gomez putting up Eastern League MVP numbers or any great seasons from org guys to help carry the squads through the dog days.

Unpopular opinion: I've been pretty disappointed by Swihart this year, both offensively and defensively. His plate discipline/plate recognition has looked pretty terrible, he hasn't really shown much game power, and he's not really shown above-average defensive skills (though the tools/athleticism are certainly there). I agree with you Jmei. I haven't been wowed by his defense, and his bat has been below average (if slow to adjust). I think he has the athleticism and tools, but it isn't happening right now. I think he has a future, but at least Vazquez showed an above average skill where as Swihart has yet to show any other than speed for a catcher.

Castillo's AB just now might have been his best. Worked an BB against a guy who just refused to throw him anything. Maybe he should play more...

I was encouraged by Owens last night. His fastball looked better than it had when I had watched him during ST. Seemed to have a bit more jump on it. His change-up is legit. His pitch selection in a couple ABs was questionable, but I thought he looked like he has a chance to stick for sure.

What about Margot? Would he be a candidate, also what type of players are usually sent? I haven't really paid attention to the AFL before.
