Improvement on Campbell, Horn, Wingenter. Decent roll of the dice. See if he can get hot and be an asset down the stretch.

If Brooks Brannon stays healthy for a stretch of time and keeps impacting the baseball like he does, he could become very interesting. Powerful swing.

Curious to watch how the rest of the season plays out. Still a lot of questions since the track records of high level performance is not long. Can Bello find his summer form from last year? Does Crawford bounce back and look like a 4/5 ROS? Does Houck continue to look ace-ish?
Depending on the answers to those, the off-season to-do list changes. Still think a bonafide top of the rotation piece is missing here (system feels primed for a big trade). Re-sign Pivetta and have a rotation like the below is my dream. Not too concerned on the 'pen at the moment.
-FA/Trade -Houck -Pivetta -Bello -Crawford/Giolito

Dalbec in RF is something... That lineup card is hard to look at.

Would love to see Wikelman string a few good outings in a row. Starting to think he may be best in a bullpen role, but holding out hope for back-end starter.

Honest question: how many prospects and players don't struggle with breaking balls? Seems to me there's a reason they're being more and more emphasized across baseball, they're hard to hit!
Are Mayer's struggles that much greater than most top prospects in this regard?

The way they setup this team, this season is about finding out what you have in guys like Rafaela/Abreu/Grissom, as well as the rotation. How those guys sink or swim "should" dictate how they act in the coming offseason.
You just hope that it doesn't ruin Rafaela's long-term development. SSS to date but the MLB numbers are troubling. Love the athleticism and he'd be a fun watch for years if he can get to competent with the bat.

They need a Montgomery signing as much for 2025 as 2024. They only have Bello and Crawford as penciled in starters under contract next year. They need a multi year deal with a dependable starter at some point to get off the yearly rotation carousel.

It's just insane that we're almost to Feb. and Snell, Monty, Bellinger, Soler, Matt Chapman, etc. are all still unsigned. Trade market is dead. Gridlock.

Would be nice to see Devers and Yoshida kick it into a higher gear again. Feels like the supporting cast has been doing their job recently. A sweep is a must.

Paxton is due for a good outing. Raffy is due for a dinger (maybe 2). Three out of four incoming.

We need a good bounce back outing from Bello today. His expected stats the last few outings are not as great as they had been in May and June. His baseball savant page also paints a picture of a league average starter (still a developmental win if that's the case) rather than a front-end starter albeit with some high-end comparables for his pitch mix (ex: Luis Castillo is similar).
Getting a few more swings and misses the rest of the season would be an encouraging sign!

Honestly I think Cora's been managing his balls off lately with a rotation that basically has 2.5 actual starters in it. Bad day to have a bad day for Schreiber and Cora as well. But some of the crap being tossed his way here today is excessive.

Something to watch: Roman Anthony has struck out 21 times in 45 ABs in July. Also struck out 11 times in his last 16 ABs. Time to adjust to the adjustments. Let's see what the young buck can figure out down the stretch.

I think you hear out what teams are willing to trade for him right now. If the offers are more appealing than Paxton playing on the QO or the draft pick (& bonus $) then you deal him this month. I don't think they should sign him to an extension unless it's very team friendly.

On the most recent pod, Jim Callis said he doesn't know what to make of Blaze either. Seems just like a profile scouts and prospect prognosticators struggle to value. He's definitely interesting since the hit tool seems pretty advanced for 20.

Why did Yorke change his swing mechanics to begin with? Probably a result of the struggles last year and maybe a result of injury too. Tried to find something he felt confident and comfortable with.

In the pre-amble he did mention that these rankings have a lot more recency bias than his pre-season rankings do. Regardless, fun to see 4 guys in top 50. Been a long time since that was the case on any list.

The other day in the Gameday thread, Yorke was a hot topic of conversation. There was a lot of talk about his swing change and his whiff rate as a result of it. This has had me thinking, do we think he sticks with this new setup? His prior swing/setup was gorgeous, and now there's more moving parts that probably hinder his ability to stay consistent.
Is there a happy medium between new and old that could help him cut down on the swing and miss?
