Honestly, I only care about the draft picks. The last thing the org needs is to lose out on a couple shots at talent.

Wow. MLB basically saying to all teams to cut the crap or else.

Red Sox and horrific 2nd round picks, name a more iconic duo. Them and the Pats are nose to nose for the title. At least the Pats can claim Gronk and Collins among those ranks... Pretty much all yuck from the baseball team there

Porcello was a constant for 5 years, and had some awesome highs in a Red Sox uniform. Only fond memories of Pretty Ricky and hope he shoves for the Mets.

Great stuff! This site fills quite the niche for us Red Sox fans and I'm sure the amount of time and effort spent to keep it going is a lot. Appreciate everything you guys do! You deserve the recognition and praise.

The differences between football & basketball development compared to baseball cannot be ignored here either. The sheer amount of mistakes and repetition you learn from in baseball makes losing 2 years of that in prime development years, a big deal.
Not catastrophic but definitely will change his development path. Could see him come back as a bullpen guy for a year as he builds back up to starter innings.

Financially, a lot of the teams aren't viable. There's quite a few teams in locations with tiny populations with terrible attendance numbers and facilities that are not conducive to properly developing talent.
The argument about towns losing teams and therefore kids not growing up going to these games is flawed considering the numbers suggest they aren't attending much to start with.
Keith Law highlighted a few teams (i think mostly in the Appalachian league) where average attendance was 1,100 or below which is sad. I have felt for a while that there were too many minor league teams and too many guys with minimal talent that dilutes the product and makes going to the games less interesting than it could be.

Houck seems like a guy who might be dynamite following an opener or as some version of a piggyback situation with a lefty. Seems like a profile that could feast on RH heavy lineups.

Everyone is different and maybe there's no event that brought about this, but is there anything that happened to make Mookie seem so resigned to making a change?

Shifting things a bit here, Bennintendi has a pretty important offseason/next season coming up. The guy should be a much larger factor for this team right now but he has completely plateaued/regressed.
Before last season, I thought he had easy improvements to make to get to an all star level but since then he has been merely an average/slightly above player. Not sure how to project him now and I'm not really sure what his value is around the league as a guy who seems to have fallen behind this league wide power surge.

I understand the rationale of moving on from Dombrowski due to the circumstances of the org. changing and him not necessarily being the best guy for the next phase. Some different perspective/creativity needed.
Thank you to Dombrowski for doing exactly what he was brought here to do!

A sneaky big offseason priority is the 4th OF spot. It's clear as day to me that JD cant play the field anymore, and they could use another RHH in the OF to spell Beni/JBJ.

I like Chavis as a person. Brings a ton of energy and seems like a super genuine guy, but it does seem like a pretty substantial adjustment is in order for him. After his hot start, he lacked walks and power. Bad combo when you strikeout as much as him. Hope he makes these fixes but it will be tough.

Xander signing before this season was a massive coup
PS: those two extensions ATL got on Acuna and Albies are ridiculous

On the announcing and weaving in stats to paint the whole picture, Alex Speier is always a great addition to the booth when he's there for an inning. He seems to be able to mix in some more advanced number discussion without taking away from the game at hand.

I'd say around 105-110 innings. That would give him about 7-8 more starts than he had last year which seems right to me, but any sign of fatigue I'd be comfortable shutting him down or at least giving him extra rest.

Final thoughts before I make the drive home. Dedgar gained a tick in the bullpen. Sits consistently at 91-92. Duran made a lot of loud contact. Also showed a good arm out in center fielders. Made a strong, accurate throw to home to hold a runner at third and almost had a guy at second on a double to the wall. Great game by Dalbec. Two hits to the opposite field (plus one more) and played excellent defense. I like John Nunez behind the plate. Made a perfect throw to catch a runner and had a couple really good blocks, including one almost two feet to his right. Still inconsistent receiving though. Thank you for your first hand report! Very cool and helpful. Happy to hear that Duran is coming alive again, and that his arm is probably at least average out in CF. Good stuff.
