Why wouldn’t we bring in Ottavino?

Whether the Red Sox keep E-Rod will depend on money per year and years vs. who else is available and will actually sign. E-Rod may be the best starter willing to come to Boston (not that it is at all undesirable, but if a guy’s family is on the West Coast.....). 1) Sale 2) Eovaldi 3) E-Rod 4) Pivetta 5) Houck ——————- 6) Whitlock (in MLB bullpen) 7) Seabold 8) Winckowski 9) Richards (in MLB bullpen) 10) Crawford Other depth options signed by Bloom This would not be the worst rotation around... This isn’t the NBA. Boston is just as much of a free agent destination in the mlb.

Next year’s rotation should be a lot more fun without Richards and Perez starting so many games.

This is also a pretty good indicator of why they're starting Sale vs the Mets. Every game is big at this point. As someone else said, the Yankees are pretty righty heavy anyway.

Koji is the only Sox reliever I have ever liked. Watching him pitch was like watching Larry Bird shoot free throws. I always felt completely relaxed. Every damn pitch was a strike. Compare to Kimbrel who was torture to watch even when he was good. This sounds like something dmaineah would say. The only Red Sox reliever you liked? They’ve had guys like Foulke, Papelbon and Okajima pretty recently. Tazawa also had his moments before Farrell ruined him. We also have Whitlock right now who is filthy.

I think the farm is headed to where it needs to be. Ranking may take a hit when Duran and Houck graduate but they just need to not make any bad trades I think and they’ll be fine.
A huge trade for a talented player doesn’t really make sense as much sense right now when it will be expensive to extend guys like Bogaerts and Devers and resign ERod and maybe Schwarber.

Does this affect the CBT? Weren’t we barely under it?

Toronto is a legit Wild Card contender. Meanwhile the Sox planned out Sale’s recovery to make his first start against Baltimore and his second vs. Texas missing TB and NYY. In August. Yeah there’s just no urgency from this front office.

Dalbec and Richards have both been on this team way too long. Chaim hasn’t really acted with urgency all year.
They needed a first baseman a really long time ago and he went without one for the west coast trip, the brutal stretch against the division in July and then this road trip from hell.

Blown 5-run lead, yikes. Cora bringing Richards back out for the 5th looms large here.

Is it crazy to hope Seabold gets a start vs. the O’s? Richards is pretty clearly toast and I feel like you’d be hard pressed to find a better place to debut than against the O’s at Fenway.

I don't really know how you can blame a pitcher for giving up a home run off the end of his bat on a pitch that isn't a strike. It's just amazing hitting. Walking the number nine hitter (who hasn’t hit for power) with a 5-run lead was more what I had an issue with.

I suspect part of the reason for leaving him in is to get him to five innings and a possible win. That’s bad managing. Richards is losing his rotation spot soon enough and they need this game bad. I actually don’t think that’s it. He’s been doing it all year even when Richard isn’t in position to get them the win. I think he is trying not to overuse the pen but they have off days coming up and some of these bullpen guys wouldn’t even be on a playoff roster.

Wouldn’t have been as big of a deal if he didn’t walk McGuire with a 5-run lead.

There’s Cora again leaving in Richards too long. Does it every single start he makes.

Ok we got 3 innings out of Richards. He looks terrible. Given the off day tomorrow you gotta go to the pen.

So far everything that’s happened since the deadline basically vindicated that Bloom made the right moves at the deadline.
It was smart to get Schwarber without giving up too much. They still have a shot at a wildcard. But they absolutely should not have gone all in.
Sucks to lose Aldo but it’s not really Bloom’s fault that there were no other options and Bobby D didn’t come through.

Ok, confession. I’m trying to be cool, but if the Sox don’t at least split today, I might begin to panic. I’m not proud of that, but here we are. We really need to win both actually with Richards on the hill tomorrow.

Even if JD is entering his decline we’re only on the hook one more year. The Yankees still have a million years left on the Stanton contract.
