Luke Kornet is a free agent after this year. He’s a system player, in my opinion, but he’s really getting comfortable and good in this system and what is asked of him. I hope the rest of the NBA looks at him the same way and he’s only offered minimum contracts so the Celtics can keep him. Low salary, impact guys are key long term to this team and it’d be nice to have him as a depth big long term if he’s cheap like he is now.

Mazzulla is an absolute psycho, and I mean that nicely. Guys pulling a coaches challenge and a timeout up 11 with under a minute left. Timeout was because they trapped Tatum and he was likely pissed at how they were finishing the game. He’s doing a good job keeping them focused despite the standings/seedjng being locked up.

Suggesting that one of the admin create a Subject Post just for the Ohtani stuff as it's going to be running awhile. I concur, as this will have wide reaching implications if MLB tries to sweep it under the rug.. ( MLB trying to figure out how to reinstate Pete Rose so they don’t have to kick Ohtani out of the game /s

Right, because bookies show other peoples bet to clients. And even if they did, you don’t need to hit the millions to show you have a big client. Also, you don’t let small fish make astronomical bets they can’t possibly pay in the HOPES their rich employer/friend will bail them out.

Denver is still the team to beat league wide, for anyone, not just the Celtics. They have the best player in the world and he’s surrounded by good to great players. If they are healthy, even with the Celtics having home court, they are the favorites.

This is the definition of a hip-drop tackle: (a) grabs the runner with both hands or wraps the runner with both arms; and (b) unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and trapping the runner’s leg(s) at or below the knee.

Pritchard has been evolving. He’s playing the best ball of his life at this exact moment and it’s beautiful to watch And his extension hasn’t even started so 4 years after this one. Let’s get Hauser and Tillman on similar deals.

The question for me is what do the Patriots do if the first two picks are Williams and Maye? I'll add taking Jayden Daniels #3 is not an option for me, heck I'd take McCarthy over Daniels. I'm not taking McCarthy #3 either. You try to rape Minnesota by taking their 2 firsts this year and a first next year plus maybe a 4th this year.

I am not conflating anything. It was suggested it would be beneficial to "frontload" Big Mike's cap charge (as opposed to the "escalation method" NE typically uses). I stated there is zero value (to the team) in doing that. Period. As long as you’ll roll over, and not use cap space I’d tend to agree there’s little value to it fo the team, but you could keep the salary structure the same by reducing signing bonus and increasing the first year salary. This would lower cap hits later but not reduce the cash a player is getting in those future years. It’d also make the dead money less when/if you want to cut the player.

I think you missed the point. Almost any contract with a big signing bonus is front loaded cash wise, I'm talking front loading a contract cap (sic) wise, not cash. Example Onwenu Cap hit 10.9, 21.0 and 25.0 million. Cash per year 26 million, 13.5 and 17.5 million. Fairly standard contract, most teams do that because teams always want more cap space. Why so many players get released in NFL. I don't see the point if you aren't going to spend money this year. Compared to something like cap hits of 18, 18 and 18. I probably shouldn't have said front loading, it's more not back loading contracts cap hit wise. Tom Brady might be the worst example ever BTW. The guy most years was underpaid by NFL terms, 30 million was nothing for top QBs. I'll repeat: there is zero advantage to shifting cap charges to early years versus later years. It is math; it is not opinion. It is irrefutable. The only caveat being the unused salary cap space must rollover (Patriots have always done this). The mention of Tom Brady's contract situation* was only intended to demonstrate how it caught the media's attention, how they advocated for him being "underpaid," a possible outcome if a team "frontloads" a contract. Although the downside might be somewhat overstated, in my eyes it is sufficient reason not to do it because there is ZERO benefit to be gained. * I might have cited Richard Seymore's advocacy by a certain beat reporter (who now pollutes the airwaves from 2-6) writing multiple times how unfair it was the player wasn't able to talk about his injuries (#MeanieBill) -- the point was the same: it's low-hanging fruit for media to latch onto. Cap charges are differ than cash due to the player; you’re conflating the two. Players complain about the cash coming to them not the cap charges. Often they overlap but not always.

I have a dumb question regarding the cap hits? Can they go down or be flat? - Don't base salaries HAVE to increase? - Signing bonus will always be straight pro-ration - Roster Bonuses can be NLTBE in the 1st year (based on previous year's Active Games). But they're based on 17 Games Active in subsequent years (until they start playing the next season where their hits can go up or down based on activity). - A lot of other incentives are typically NLTBE until actually earned. Just don't know enough to know if Cap Hits are ever flat or decreasing. EDIT - Just saw Bourne's deal and his year 2 and 3 salaries are definitely flat so they don't HAVE to decrease. Base salaries don’t need to increase. Signing bonuses don’t even NEED to be prorated over the contract (up to 5 years max), but it’d be pointless not to and the all are. If you weren’t going to do that, then you’d just make it the first year salary guaranteed. But in short cap hits don’t have to always increase.

How would #2 be more likely? Washington traded Howell for very little. I don't know if Jeremiah had sources on this or if he's just trying to connect some dots (or just have a take). He's probably thinking #2 is the only way to get the guy they want. I'd also point out that Washington is in the exact same boat as NE and you are advocating the Pats consider taking a QB AFTER the 1st. So if it's okay for NE to do it, why wouldn't Washington be willing/interested? EDIT - The counterargument is that they might be fine with ANY of the QBs (even McCarthy) and know they can, at least, get up to #4. Being at 2 vs 3 and knowing which QB you’ll get is a big difference.

I dont really understand what the Pats are doing. Onwenu and Henry I get. They were losing both OTs and both TEs and, after Schultz resigned, they were arguably the best free agents at their positions. But after those two, I don't get it. You can make a reasonable argument for just about any one of their signings in isolation, but taken as a whole, they needed to upgrade particularly on offense, they had money to do so, and they have really not done that. They seem to be acting as though they are competitive right now and they just need to fill in some depth pieces. Now everyone is talking about building through the draft, but they don't have a plethora of extra draft picks. They have one good pick. Im sure (or hope) management has some strategy, I just dont get it. I will say, I think the Gibson signing is really good. A real all around 3rd down back. Zeke was solid there last year and he’s a true 3 down back but his receiving isn’t as good as Gibson even if it’s very good. That being said; I’d still take Zeke back on a similar contract to last year. Stevenson, Zeke and Gibson would be a very nice backfield and not expensive.

Hopefully Sammy’s ankle is ok. Losing him wouldn’t be ideal. It’s fine for a couple weeks to get it back to 100%.

They are smart to not be investing money in 30 something free agents, etc. But I don’t disagree with you overall. Let’s see what they do tho. I mentioned Sneed the other day. If they trade for and sign a top young corner like him or another player in that type of spot that’s a good use of money. Extend Barmore, etc. But cap space does roll over so it’s not ideal to just waste it What about Sneed wants you trading draft picks and handing him a massive contract? PFF doesn't rank him crazy high and Football Refrence shows he had one good year. Isn't it a huge Red Flag the Chiefs are so willing to trade him? If you wanted to do that, why not trade for Higgins? It’s 27, has good size and is a legit number 1 corner who here Wouri hopefully be a number 2 while our number 1 is on a rookie deal. The Chiefs are in a cap situation and can’t keep paying everyone. That’s why they’d trade him. He was a huge piece of that defense last year. I’m not a Higgins fan as a number 1 WR.

I don't understand for the life of me why a 4 win team would only really prioritize signing their own guys when they had more cap space than anyone else. Kraft is really giving John Henry vibes. They are smart to not be investing money in 30 something free agents, etc. But I don’t disagree with you overall. Let’s see what they do tho. I mentioned Sneed the other day. Don’t get weapons because you don’t have a QB. Don’t get a QB because he doesn’t have weapons. You won’t ruin a stud receiver like you can a QB. Not saying don’t draft a WR, they just have so many holes to plug on offense that it would probably make more sense to trade down and fill multiple spots with blue chip talent. Plus I really don’t think the gap between Harrison and Nabers/Odunze is as wide as some believe Sure but those 3 go really high so trading down a couple spots won’t net you that much so give me the best guy in MHJ rather than screwing around. I’m fine with trading down if you get a massive haul.

The more I think about it the more I think picking MHJR would be like buying a lambo in Massachusetts without a garage to put it in or a drivers license If they don’t go QB it would almost be malpractice to not trade down Don’t get weapons because you don’t have a QB. Don’t get a QB because he doesn’t have weapons. You won’t ruin a stud receiver like you can a QB.
