That concept isn't new either. iirc, Willie Mo Pena was a Rule 5 draft for the Reds from the Yankees and they DLed him for an entire year and when the Sox traded for him, it was pointed out that it had significantly hurt his career. Maybe or maybe not WMP might have been more than an AAAA bat. The Reds acquired Pena in the Drew Henson fiasco. I know Cincy rushed him to the majors, but that was just their organizational incompetence, and he ended up out of options at 23 before he really even had any experience at Triple-A. That wasn't it either. Pena was originally signed to a major league deal by the Yankees as a teenager. The Reds had no choice but to put him in the majors full time when they did. Bowden is an awfully good punching bag and deservedly so. But Willy Mo isn't an example of his incompetence.

Was it ever made public why his original Mets contract was voided?

Moon is right on Willie Mo, his career was ruined by his initial MLB contract. Never had the time to develop as his clock ran out.

Alex Gonzalez looks terrible at SS. Couldn't keep a ball in the IF, error, making a bad Verlander inning much worse.

More breaking news: Trout takes Felix Hernandez' second pitch to him - a beautiful curveball that drops in on the corner at the knees - out with a man on.
In other news: Vlad Guerrero throws the ceremonial first pitch in there, but a little low to Don Baylor who goes on his knees to catch it. Mistake. Vlad has to aid him off the ground, and he's helped off the field, each arm with a shoulder for support.

That's funny. Just about every player on the Yankees is there because of the money.

Baylor has had bone marrow cancer treatments, and he has a foundation funding research into the disease. That may have played a part in this.Bad way to start the season for the Angels.
Hernandez pulled out a win, also. He was very effective though he did give up one more cheap run on a missed flyball by Ackley. But Smoak hit a 3 run homer in the 7th and Ackley a 3 run triple in the 9th.

From the Wall Street Journal The by-line was changed later. Bobby Parnell, the blower, also has a partial tear in his elbow, and may need Tommy John surgery.

From the Wall Street Journal Not the Way to Start a 90-Win Year Mets Blow a Save And Fan 18 Times in Opening Loss Bobby Parnell, the blower, also has a partial tear in his elbow, and may need Tommy John surgery. Wasn't he tied to the Sox last year before Uehara took over?

It's fun to watch. CC can lose all the weight he wants, without the plus fastball he is very hittable.

Boston's 2013 7th string 3rd baseman is currently the starting SS for the Blue Jays. Let that sink in...

CC has a 25m vesting option for 2017 which hits as long as he doesn't suffer a left shoulder injury in 2016. Going to be hard to suffer an injury when you get cut.

His kids and his kid's kids are set for life. But the Yanks have to throw him out there every 5th game. I don't find it sad at all.

Action in the Yankee pen after 3? IP for CC. He just got out of the inning on a 9-3 double play though.

Sabathia has generally pitched poorly in April. People seem ready to write him off every year. Maybe he ends up falling off this year, but who knows? He's had good durability and his secondary stuff is fantastic, so I think his chances to reinvent himself without throwing hard are better than they would be for most. There's often an adjustment period for that, though.
I've always liked watching the guy pitch, personally. Smooth mechanics despite being massive, cool demeanor on the mound, and really knows how to work hitters. Plus I've always had a soft spot for those guys who consistently go 200+ innings.
The lineup is what the Yankees should be worrying about. Beltran is probably going to be the only one with a .450 SLG.

He may adapt to being a soft tosser ,but the thing working against him is movement. Guys like Tommy John, Frank Tanana, Jamie Moyer , all had good movement. He was mostly straight at 86 to 89 tonight. But he is lefty and breathing so anything could happen. The Astros got him tonight. I think teams like Boston, Detroit, and Texas will beat him up.

CC settled down and pitched well after the first 2 innings. He was 89-91 from what I saw and I would expect a little more as the season goes on. He was hit because he threw some pitches in 'happy valley'. I expect that we will see him with a 4:00 ERA this year and that will be good enough to keep the Yanks in games. At this stage he seems to have early inning problems but then rights himself. Tex looked good though and that is a bit disturbing. He had two hits and a long, high drive to the warning track in right center. He is now keeping both hands on the bat which he was not doing in spring training out of fear of aggravating his wrist.
