Corey Kluber threw a Maddux (CG shutout in under 100 pitches) tonight against the Mariners. It only took 85 pitches, only 16 of which were balls, while striking out 8, walking none, and allowing 3 hits. Final game time: 2hrs 10mins.

A's follow the Lester deal by trading Tommy Milone to the Twins for Sam Fuld. Milone is a personal favorite of mine. He isn't really great or anything, but he's ok and durable and his slow curve is my favorite pitch in baseball right now. I can't get enough of major leaguers swinging out of their shoes at 62 mph.

I would of loved if we also got Milone in the deal. Let him start the rest of the year and if he doesn't prove himself he is trade bait in the offseason.

Honestly, I don't think Milone is a great fit for Fenway. Plus the Red Sox have enough arms that can move in as back-end rotation guys right now who deserve shots. Better to clear the 40-man spot and pick up the Comp Balance pick.

Buster Olney ?@buster_ESPN 1m And Cliff Lee takes himself out of the game after he gestures toward his elbow. Which is why teams were scared off: concerns re: elbow.

Matt Gelb @mattgelb · 16m Cliff Lee is exiting the game with an injury.
Matt Gelb @mattgelb · 14m Cliff Lee pointed at his arm. Looked exasperated. Phillies do not have a pitcher. Still waiting.
Matt Gelb @mattgelb · 7m Cliff Lee threw an 85-m.p.h. cutter, yelled an expletive, and waved his arms in disgust. That is how it ended.
Matt Gelb @mattgelb · 6m Lee looked as if he might cry in the dugout. Incredible emotion from a man who never shows it.
Matt Gelb @mattgelb · 5m The Phillies owe Cliff Lee approximately $45.8 million through 2015.
Another tough break for Philly.

This day just went from bad to worse for Phillies fans. First Amaro does nothing, then he blames other GM's for not being aggressive enough, then Lee gets hurt

First Amaro does nothing, then he blames other GM's for not being aggressive enough, then Lee gets hurt Amaro's idea of an aggressive GM has to include his own moves as a context right? That sort of aggression has saddled his team with a lot of older players who long ago saw their best days, but they're still being paid like it's yesterday. He's not the one to make recommendations to the front-office fraternity.

Bad night for lefties.

Isn't his club the one who needs to/wants to move salary and try to give themselves even the slightest chance of being good in the next 3 years? He should be aggressively trying to move guys, not waiting for someone to make him an offer on the garbage contracts he's saddled with

Prices will be down even more without the pennant race boost. also, this is funny as hell: Jane Lee ?@janemlb 26m Re: Price to Tigers, Beane "had a feeling it was going to happen." Dombrowski jokingly texted, "You have 1 minute to acquire Chris Sale"

A.Miller forced to shave (for Buck)? Got 2in hold:no hits-1 walk-no so's.
Adrian Gonzalez hurt--sliding-- in LA. Maybe they'd be interested in Carp if it lasts IDK?

Bob Nightengale ?@bnightengale 9m Now that the #Royals will be without 1B Eric Hosmer for up to six weeks, Mike Carp, who was DFA'd by the #Redsox, is a natural replacement.

I watched part of the Cubs-Dodgers game last night. The Dodgers do not look like a championship team. Their play was very sloppy and listless. Haren looked terrible on the mound, and was.It was 8-1 Cubs when I turned it off. Kemp looked bad in the field and not impressive the one time I saw him at the plate.

I'm not big on their pen though. They seem a lot like last year's Tigers, with an incredible top of the rotation, one of the most talented hitters in the game (Puig) surrounded by great pieces. But much like the Tigers, that pen can be had.
For my book, the favorite to come out on top of the NL is Washington. Would love to see old pal Adam LaRoche getting a ring.

Remember when Abreu had bat speed problems? Gotta love the scouts...

Actually I was being sarcastic about the scout thing. You got it backwards, it was actually the "scouts" who completely made up the bat speed theory. This guy along with Despaigne have been the two best hitters in Cuba for a long time now, including intl. tournaments. He never had any bat speed issues.
