Mike Carp can do it all. Keep Carp, cut down to 6 full-time relievers, that's the way to go.

I think we can agree to disagree on the Drew thing. How many more Doubront starts like this do we see?

I zoned out of this game for a few innings. What just happened? Who's pitching? Where am I right now? What's my name? Am I having a stroke?

Hey, remember when everyone was laughing at the Yankees for spending a bunch of money on good players and applauding the Red Sox for not spending money on anyone especially a major league caliber defender at shortstop? That was fun.

The Xander bashing is really tired We all love Xander. The bashing is aimed at the decision makers who insist on playing him at the wrong position. LOL at giving up on him as a SS after like 20 games.

I am not willing to risk his development or confidence for Stephen Drew to re-sign. I don't think confidence is an issue. Xander can play 3B, what's it to him? So about that development. What are the chances he will develop into an average or better defensive shortstop and how much time should he realistically be given to do it? This is a sincere question, I don't know very much about this sort of thing. But intuitively, I'd think it's not going to get much better now after he has been playing SS pretty much his entire life. Completely agreed.

The game plan was obviously to have the Sox bat around and have Carp smack the walk off HR. Was brilliant, it's a shame the Sox didn't execute it.

That was fun. I think that opinion is rooted in a more-than-25-games sample. Maybe like 40 games.

All of this talk of X developing into an average or better defensive shortstop is silly. If he wasn't ready defensively, he shouldn't have been handed the position. His flub of that ball hit straight at him in the first inning was amateur hour. The inning should have been over. Instead you end up prolonging the inning for Soriano to gap the double and the Yanks to score first. That crap doesn't happen with Drew in there. The bat is there. Nobody disputes that about X. But the glove isn't there, at least for shortstop. And, asking for development at that position at the major league level is a recipe for disaster. I've also got to ask this question of those insistent that X remain at short - What do you do next year or even later this year when Marrero is deemed worthy of a call up? This is a now or later proposition with the end result being the same.

It's amazing how particularly bad this team is at Fenway Park. The defense continues to stink. They lose another series at home - to an unintimidating Yankees team.
I'm willing to see if Xander gets better defensively during the course of the season as I hope and pray that Marrero can hit enough as it's obvious that they'll need his defense as defensively he should give them what Drew gave them and what Iglesias would have given them.
We all love dream lineups but as we're seeing defense matters. Odds are Xander will be at 3b by 2015 or 2016. Then one of WMB or Cecchini will wind up getting dealt.
Meanwhile Doubront looks lost as does Buchholz so 40% of the rotation has been awful and Peavy doesn't always inspire confidence. Basically the Sox have two reliable starters.
If Doubront and Buchholz can't turn things around the Sox will wind find it tough to get far above .500.
