"You have to weigh things in the long-term." Champs in the long run we are all dead. This is the only thing we can predict about the long run. That's the thought process the Sox were employing in the Lou Gorman days that cost them Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson. They figured he'd put them over the top. They weren't really concerned about the future. Yes we'll all be dead in the long-run, but God willing I hope to stick around awhile and if I do then I'd sacrifice the short-term for a good shot at a long-term run.

Bagwell for Anderson isn't an example of a win-now trade, it's an example of a stupid trade. Worth mentioning that a few of the trades suggested on this board could have been drawn up by acolytes of Gorman's, with Bogaerts sent packing a dozen times. Might be cringe inducing to go back and look at some of those proposals. The returns might not look so hot now.
