Bailed out by wins by Colorado and Minnesota. A missed opportunity for sure. Breslow did his part, no question about it. Sweet! We get a win and still keep a top 5 pick hope alive.

Big come back win by the Cubbies today. If Sox lose tonight they will have a 2 game cushion between pick 7 and 8 with 7 games left. Twins-Astros-Sox all neck and neck for picks 5-6-7

A loss puts Boston 3 games back from Colorado. Getting closer.

Astros have been playing pretty well lately. They rolled Seattle tonight and vault the Red Sox back into the 5th worst record spot...
It was probably better to have AZ win those games vs. Colorado since they were closer to us and play Minnesota next, AZ next four games are vs Colorado and Minnesota.
The next 6 days will go a long way to determining our draft slot.
Arizona vs. Colorado (1) and Minnesota (3)
Houston vs. Texas (3)
Colorado vs. Arizona (1) and San Diego (3)

With 7 Games to Go:
Red Sox can pick no lower than 12th.
Red Sox are 6.5 games clear of losing pick protection.
3.5 games clear of 9th pick.
Pick likely to fall between 5-8

Praying for Daz Cameron or Brendan Rodgers He seems to have slipped a bit so it could happen. I guess people were expecting a big jump from him that hasn't happened yet. Has to be tough getting comps to Justin Upton as a sophomore in high school.

Since they've pretty much got a protected pick locked up, now my hope is that they end up with a pick better than the Cubs. Would sense that they and BC have similar views for obvious reasons

Would sense that they and BC have similar views for obvious reasons My assessment is that the Cubs, who are flush with position prospects, will look at pitching to replenish the organizational needs. We're just the opposite. You're right, the "Battle" for the top 11 pick is won, if we can call it a victory. With just eight games to go it's just a matter of where we slot.

Another bad win today. Houston is bailing us out with these wins, but winning twice vs. Baltimore means we would have had a great shot at 4th pick.

Agreed. Might be wise to consider that 21 teams passed on Trout before he was drafted by the Angels. Think about that and how it plays into this thread and the fever for this slot or that. Everybody to the roulette wheel...

The Sox last high pick, Ball am thinking Chavis and possibly even Kopech at #33 may have more upside. Some fans here may take issue with it however.

Basically they haven't struggled yet so you overrate them and underrate Ball who has.

Everybody to the roulette wheel... 24 teams* Even with that in mind, I'd still rather be picking 5th than 6th. It isn't just the first round -- it's EVERY round. It now has draft bonus cap implications, and the earlier the team drafts, the better chance they have to pick up the prospect who falls for signability or other reasons before another organization snaps them up. We all remember draft day comments when particular players that seem like good bets are snapped up in the final few selections before the Sox's turn comes up. And with the current trend toward signability players going earlier in the draft, "non-buyer's remorse" may be even more prevalent.

Everybody to the roulette wheel... And five teams passed on Derek Jeter, who was picked six. And in 2013, if we'd lost two more games, we'd have Clint Frazier. Generally, the benefits of Betts, Bogaerts etc. doing well for six games is dramatically less important than the benefits of moving up two slots.

We all really need to get off of the Frazier thing. Edit: actually, nevermind. Didn't realize how he turned it around in the second half.

I'll be happy either way at this point because I'm good at finding the bright side. I think we can all agree that we're much better off as the Red Sox than the Yankees.
