Travis tried 3rd in the cape cod league but apparently it didn't work out. I don't think they sign him unless it's under slot. Who knows though, maybe he is athletic enough for Fenway's left field. After all, we've had some real unique players out there. 1st base / LF depth. He could platoon for crappy LF/1B with Carp. lol, I'm sorry. I won't be negative for a draft pick until 2-3 years later. Left/right 1B platoon / backup other stuff with Shaw.

Slot for the Travis pick is around $800,000 to $850,000 or so though isn't it so it's not a lot of flexibility. Of course if he doesn't sign though it opens up some cash. If he doesn't sign the team loses the slot money.

By the way, my Travis upside comp is Billy Butler.

Doesn't fit the mold, but candidate for an cheap sign college senior is 6'5 Ryan Thompson, a submarine closer from Campbell University. Sox scouted him more than once this spring.

How totally out of the question is Bukauskas? Almost 100%. He wants to go to school and is off most teams' board.

Billy Butler would be okay... better than Mark Sweeney, anyway.
Time to spend some serious time figuring out what it will take to sign those guys. Sounds like that Sox MIGHT have gotten through three rounds with net money to spend after figuring the 10%.
Of course, they ate that extra money last year when Denney signed for a couple six packs and Boldt decided to make the Big Ten All-Freshman team for Nebraska.

For the prospects reading this...rest assured we all want you guys to be studs and will be rooting for you. We shouldn't be so negative. You all have accomplished a lot. Travis has put up real decent numbers in college and was a Big ten rookie of the year one year ( I think I remember reading ) and has been consistently solid with the bat and a decent fielder. An MVP in the regional tournament. No question he has solid credentials. Could be a real find.
One never knows who is going to be a mega stud. For example Mookie Betts was a 5th rounder. Man, that 2011 draft is really shaping up. Owens, Mookie, JBJ, Swihart, Noe Ramirez, Shaw, Kukuk. Pena. Those first 4 guys were real solid picks.

So Chavis/Kopech/Travis = messed around and got a triple-double? I'm on board with that.

Travis is highly likely to sign though right. He passed earlier. I haven't been following things this year at all. If we lose the money for slot it is not good but it looks like all these guys should sign.

How totally out of the question is Bukauskas? Almost 100%. He wants to go to school and is off most teams' board. Sent letters to every team pleading with them not to draft him. That might have been a ploy (and worked) with Josh Bell, but in the new slotting system he's as unsignable as it gets. With that being said, I'd take the Keith Law approach and call him tonight offer him 2 million dollars for our next pick. Make him turn down a life changing amount.

Schwarber looks a little like a grown up Buzz from the Home Alone movies in this photo.

Sam Travis doesn't use batting gloves. Obviously he'll be a great baseball player. #analysis

For what it's worth Al Skorupa really likes Travis, and thinks he could be a 3B:
Al Skorupa @alsko
I really like Sam Travis. Saw a lot of him on the Cape for Y-D. I didn't mind him at 3B. Not much different from Colin Moran there.

I love the first day of the Sox draft. I even like Sam Travis for what he is (the second coming of Steve Pearce). Kopech is going to be the star of our draft though. I love everything about him.
Edit: I also really enjoyed seeing Tyler Beede vindicated on his decision. He's going to be a very good big league pitcher.
