Derek Lowe gave it away by showing the name tag before hand. Not a bad pick.

Ugghhh on passing on Wilson for Travis.
Absolutely despise these draft rules.

I don't see how any first baseman can be considered "safe." If he doesn't hit a ton he's not a major leaguer, not for the Red Sox anyway.

This is a very good draft by the RedSox. If they could somehow add Mac Marshall I'd be thrilled !

Two upside picks and a solid college bat. Good night for the home team.

I wonder what it is about Wilson for why he hasn't signed yet, if it is signability or what. I would of loved the three pronged HS picks.

I'm gonna guess Travis. He's a safe college hitter with terrific plate discipline and a bit of pop but not much upside. Think Travis Shaw with a better hit tool. Great call, and I like the pick. Best case, Youkilis?

Arizona takes Wilson. Having back to back picks should allow room to maneuver funds around. Probably a cheaper pick here next.

Arizona with a nice draft. Toussaint, Cody Reed, Wilson and Diaz.
Diaz a Vandy commit.
Add: As is Toussaint and Reed.

Reading the scouting reports, I didn't see him as the sort of guy the Sox go for; most of the raw kids they've signed or drafted have had some kind of positive makeup mentioned.

I don't see how any first baseman can be considered "safe." If he doesn't hit a ton he's not a major leaguer, not for the Red Sox anyway. He's safe insofar as he's as likely as any prospect left on the board to hit well. That doesn't mean he's a guaranteed starting-caliber 1B, since (as you noted) 1B at the major league level have to hit really, really well. But guys who can hit generally find one way or another to make it to the majors, even if they're limited to 1B defensively.

If the Red Sox follow recent history, I'd expect one High Ceiling Signability guy and then one college/easy sign in rounds 3-4.

I bet Travis signs way under slot. Agreed again. I think that was a big factor in this pick.

Travis tried 3rd in the cape cod league but apparently it didn't work out. I don't think they sign him unless it's under slot. Who knows though, maybe he is athletic enough for Fenway's left field. After all, we've had some real unique players out there.
1st base / LF depth.

Slot for the Travis pick is around $800,000 to $850,000 or so though isn't it so it's not a lot of flexibility. Of course if he doesn't sign though it opens up some cash.
