I don't know why Chris, but we often seem to have very different mind sets. To me, Harper is possibly one of the most over appreciated athletes in sport. He has the tools to be incredibly great but it wouldn't surprise me if a guy like Betts doesn't have a better career. Harper has looked like superman at times but can he mantain it over a career? Does he have a long term comittment to excellence or will he burn out? I've seen a lot of athletes who could have benefited greatly from taking a year off. Harper seems to get hurt more often than many and don't think that is the only reason he has had mixed results for a guy with his projections. The numbers are not a clear upward trend of a young guy adjusting to the league to me: www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/injuries-derail-bryce-harpers-season-again/Nah he graduated from high school early because he's a slacker.

At first I thought it was understandable that Sandoval would make that mistake, but his tweet spells shoveled right. Talk about a twist.

Good Friend Austin Meadows comes in at #8 on MLB.com's list of top 10 OF's. Who shall forever be known as the guy we were supposed to draft instead of Trey Ball.

In the same vein, I find it interesting that Josh Bell has been converted from right field to first base in the lower minors. Major value drop.

@timbritton: Red Sox announce minor-league contracts (plus ML invites) for Quintin Berry, Dana Eveland, Bryan LaHair, Felipe Paulino & Humberto Quintero.

I always thought Paulino could be a dynamite reliever, which is the role he's probably going to be in for Boston. Eveland is interesting too-- I could see him being an impact lefty reliever, and he was great last year. LaHair and Berry both have useful carrying tools, and they needed a replacement-level catcher with Butler gone (though I think Quintero may be sub-replacement level at this point in his career).

Ogando just started following the Red Sox on Twitter, so it looks like it's happening. Has major shoulder injury concerns, but the money will be all incentive laden. Purly a lottery ticket for the pen.

Why ?, he was at decent velocity during his workouts and reportedly both the Red Sox and Dodgers are interested. Contrary to Cafardo's report, his agent says the medicals are clean and show that he should beat 100% to start the season. I doubt if the Sox (or Dodgers) would be interested otherwise. I don't think he's going to be cheap. The medicals, btw, included at least an examination if not the surgery by Dr. Andrews. This isn't likely just agent talk.

Looks like Papi is in good shape. And geez, Jose Bautista is tiny in comparison.

The guy looks a little like Bautista if you squint, which I think was the joke.

Since I know some will jump on this statement, I want to preface it by saying it's not what I think will happen, it's just an observation.
If Shane Victorino is healthy he'd more than justify his salary. If the Sox traded him for a prospect, they would likely be back under the lux tax cap and could then slide their one year acceptability of being over the cap to 2016.

I moved the various prospect rankings discussion to its own thread.

If Victorino is healthy he has to play, and, assuming that neither Castillo or Betts crash in ST, they almost would be compelled to trade him. As I see it right now, Craig is multi-positional, and with Napoli in his last year of his current contract, he is more likely to be kept.

Victorino would have to hit like Mike trout in spring training to get someone to pick up all his contract. Teams are just not going to see him as a reliable option with all the back and hamstring issues, even if he looks healthy in ST.
