iakovos and brent. it is true that the proper werd is "enuf". I am outside the SoxNation mainstream. I say go with the team as is. No new pitcher, no new OF, no Drew. We build an impressive AAA squad and then we block them with guys like Drew? The AAA is there only for a rash of injuries. Dat is berry berry stoopit. I just don't understand how a Red Sox fan could watch the past three seasons and not want real depth. Injuries happen, and the last three years have been brutal. Everyone builds their favorite roster in the offseason and plans as if injuries don't happen. I don't see a single MLB ready guy being blocked right now at AAA, unless you want to hand the RF job to Kalish after two lost seasons. Ideally, you build an organization where you create competition at every level and nothing is handed over for simple convenience. Leaving replacement level players as your only depth is how you get consistent top 10 picks.

I'm very confused with all the negative talk of the Red Sox recent signings. First off, there is no such thing as "saving money" in baseball with all the rules on international and draft signing bonuses, so every dollar the Sox don't spend under their "cap", just goes into the pockets of the owners. They can't really re-allocate that money to another place. Second, the Red Sox value their second round pick very highly, so they don't want to sign a FA that will cost that pick unless he is a "sure thing". With that being said, the Napoli and Victorino signings make perfect sense. Sign the best players who don't cost you picks, fill positions of need, are signed to short term, trade-able contracts, and don't block any of their top prospects.

I guess I don't consider a 3 year contract short term. 2 years is short term, 2 years with a Team Option is short term. Not a good off season so far in my opinion. And why no Pitching? Anibal Sanchez should be signed I think.
And I can't believe that Napoli & Victorino will be paid the same as David Ortiz & more then Pedroia & Ellsbury or more then Lester or Buchholz. Man oh man, can you imagine what Pedey & Ells would get as free agents! And if Haren got $13 mil what would Lester & Buchholz get?

Anibal Sanchez should be signed I think. At Sabathia money? Can't do it. Nowhere has it been said that Sanchez would receive anything close to Sabathia money. I would definitely do the Lester-for-Myers trade but I also have a feeling that Lester will be highly motivated this year. I think the Sox are going to wait till midseason to trade him, depending on where they're at. Or maybe they're working on a Lester, Ellsbury mega-deal.

Since Ariz covets Azdrubal Cabrera but can't seem to match up with Cleveland, would the Indians take Jon Lester for AC whom we then flip to the D-Backs for Upton?

Happy draft day! (sort of) I wouldn't mind taking McGuiness and auditioning him for the LHH 1b-OF reserve slot.

Worth a shot for $50k and spot on the 40 man roster. Although Ben will need to clean up some of the space problems by trading Salty and few others to make room for the recent acquisitions and hopefully a couple of starting pitchers.

Yanks make one-year, $12M offer to Youkilis If the Hunter and Martin multi-year deals were any indicator, all it takes is one team to bump Youk's AAV offer to $10 - $11M over 2 to trump the Yanks. They are absolutely dead set on getting under $189M by start of 2014. No way they can absorb 4 $23+ million dollar players (this would include Cano's next deal) and build a competitive team with whatever money they have left.

Good for Youk. Though rumor has it that he has multiple multi-year offers on the table.

McAdam on theCNN Sports Channel reported that the Royals approached the Red Sox today about Wil Myers for Jon Lester and were turned down. Haha. Sibby, "CSNNE" stands for Comcast Sports Net New England. It's not CNN's sports channel. Killing me.

McAdam on theCNN Sports Channel reported that the Royals approached the Red Sox today about Wil Myers for Jon Lester and were turned down. If true (not the CNN part, the no thanks for Lester part) another big lost opportunity by the front office. Unless they have a move for an elite starting pitcher up their collective sleeves they could've kept Myer or leveraged him with other prospects to get a pitcher better than Lester.

So, which potentially available upgrade at pitcher would you flip Myers for, R.A. Dickey or Cliff Lee?

The real question here is whether or not the return for Ellsbury is going to be greater than or equal to what we would likely receive for him if we let him walk. Given that the team that trades for him would be eligible for a compensation pick at the end of the year if they trade for him during the off-season, I don't think his value is going to be higher in the next year. I wouldn't be so sure of that. If Jacoby is having a great season like he did in 2011 and a team feels he's the piece they need to put themselves over the top then teams will give up a lot during the season for a 3 month rental. Happens fairly regularly. I get the logic and it may work out to be accurate, but it's not a slam dunk.

The Red Sox acquired righty Kyle Kaminska from the Pirates to complete the Zach Stewart trade, the team announced.
