I thought in the 1st 3IP Lackey's velocity stayed pretty well up there, but in inning 4, where his pitch count was really elevated it came down and that's pretty well the norm when a guy has to throw 30+ pitches in the same inning.
Was odd how that inning unfolded. Maybe he needs to work with Ross instead.

THAT, was as good as Holt will ever hit a ball. They should be ahead of this stiff.

Yeah, so when do we pick a position for him to play for us next year?

And in the middle of it, it looked like he tweaked something when he took a long walk and stretched out. But we don't know and he probably won't tell anyone. I'm not worried.

Right now, I'm calling Holt with the game winning home run - his first multi homer game.

5/14, 4 BB, HR without RISP (.357 / .500 / .571), 0/6, BB with RISP. It's gone beyond silly and past ludicrous to the point where we need a new word.

At least this road trip will take away any delusions this has about competing this year.
Sell sell, sell.
Jon Lester for Josh Bell.

So does Peavy get some "time off" now?
He has nothing at the moment, and there are multiple viable replacements

Going to be hard to get rid of Peavy. Washed up home run prone pitcher whose stuff has faded and gets paid at a rate of $14 million/year. I'm sure teams will be lined up to give the Sox tons of value for a pitcher like that.
It's too bad the Sox got him when he entering decline. I like listening to the guy talk baseball. It's obvious he loves the game and is well spoken. He probably has a future in TV being a color man. He's easy to root for, but tough to watch. Too bad. At least he got himself a ring and a duck boat. I could tell he totally appreciated it.

They don't need value for him. Pick up the majority of his salary or all of it and get rid of him. He has negative value to this team right now

Peavy not hitting the gun above 90 on anything. His slider is breaking into the middle of the plate at maybe 80. Really nothing there.
Coming to you from the great northwest

Tank time. Tank time. Its tank time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It's well past tank time. They were mediocre to start with and then started tank time with that long 10 game losing streak. They've been a disappointment since Opening Day. Only Tampa Bay's stinkiness will keep them from going from last to first (and World Champs) to last again. I was so looking forward to the season but then something just seemed wrong on Opening Day. Couldn't put my finger on it and years of watching baseball tells you not to make ridiculous snap judgments on Opening Day, but something just didn't feel right about this team. I do believe they have a better shot at losing 90 than they do of finishing at .500.

Coming to you from the great northwest Not news to anyone, but his last start.. FB was not topping 86-88 around pitch 70 vs Oakland. It was a decent game pitched that last year many would have overlooked and the team would have scored enough to win, as many of his starts. Not exactly taking up for Jake, but next year his name will get added, along Bazooka Joe Saunders, Chris Young, Ian Kennedy as emergency back end SP FA.

Peavy not hitting the gun above 90 on anything. Remember though that according to the theory of "effective velocity" he doesn't need to actually throw it 90mph for it to seem like it's going 90mph.

Well, its been fun to watch Brock Holt emerge. Time to get a protected pick, get a haul from some desperate overpaying team for Lester, and deal the spare parts.
In related news - Can we get anything for Drew? Any contenders that need a righty-masher SS?

And when you point out something like this, invariably it stops happening. Except two innings later we're now 7/19, 5 BB, 2B, HR (.368 / .500 / .579) without RISP and 0/9, BB with RISP. Including 0/4 by AJP.

Any pitcher pitching bad should stay in the rotation. Trade Lackey, Lester, Koji, Drew, Napoli if you can get anything. Tell Victorino his hammy is still sore and he needs rest or else next year is in jeopardy.
It's not tanking, it's just re-tooling.

AJP was OOOOOOOOOOH so close to having tied the most lob in a game (12) both ortiz and Trot Nixon both had 12 LOB in a game but both were in extras.....

- Can we get anything for Drew? ------------------------------------ They ph for him so he wouldn't go 0-4. I think he's approaching 0-20? So the answer is no he's making to much coin. Now if they want to pick up his whole nut.........
Look it's going to come down to how much courage Ben has and what kind of potential deals he can make. He's got some good chips (not talking Peavy here).
I wouldn't deal for low level prospects but there's possibilities out there and he should do what he can. The tickets are sold. RS will have a protected pick in '15 and can be active on the FA pitching market.
