Lackey vs. King Felix? Sounds like 1-0 Mariners to me. That's OK, Koji is probably unavailable anyway.

We have to start winning games or this season is over.
Any official word yet on what will happen with the rotation once Workman suspension is over and Buch is back? DLR and Workman both get optioned I am guessing. Unfortunate.

DLR and Workman both get optioned I am guessing. Unfortunate. It is insane but they are only 5 games out of the wild card so they are still in it. I have no idea how with as crappy as they have played. If anybody on the team starts hitting with runners on though they might be able to make a run. They said the decision will be made Wed. I assume RDLR and Workman get optioned as they are the only pitchers with options. It is a shame they both deserve a spot in the rotation based on performance this year. Knowing when to pull the plug and just go with the kids is the problem. Like seeing if Xander can really play SS.

5 games out of the wildcard is very misleading, take out the division leaders and we are 9th in wildcard standings. So although we are only 5 games behind there are 7 teams ahead of us. Also the wildcard game is a coin flip at best. Other teams ahead of us need pitching help, which will be available at the trade deadline, for us there is not any good fixes to out OF problem.
Not saying we are out of it, just saying we have to start winning. This team that has been a .461% team so far, now has to play closer to .580% to make a wildcard spot.

They're well under .500. That doesn't scream "contender" to me. The Sox have been bouncing between 4 to 7 games under .500 lately. They're going to have to play near .600 ball as time goes on and honestly with all those teams to climb over, I have trouble believing that teams won't eventually start to separate themselves from the rest of the mediocre pack. I feel like the teams ahead of the Sox are hardly awe inspiring but when they play their uninspiring competition somewhere a hot streak will ensue. I believe it's just a matter of time until the Yanks assert themselves as the division leaders (and this is hardly an overwhelming Yankee team), and I think the Angels will start to stack up the wins, and between Baltimore and Toronto or even KC, somebody will be near 88 to 90 wins. The Red Sox have four weak spots in the lineup and very little power or speed. I don't think there's going to be a big offensive turnaround. If David Ortiz doesn't save their bacon as often as he has they'd already be double digits under .500. Honestly, I have feel the same way about this team that the poster Fenway has felt about this particular team. I'm just very, very thankful for 2013. That's about as much as I can say about the 2014 Red Sox.

The Sox will not officially throw in the towel on the season until a month from now, at least. They'll hang onto hope, however unfounded, out of respect for their core players. With guys like Pedroia, Ortiz, Lester, Lackey, Gomes, Napoli on the team they will not pull the rug out from under those guys. If the Sox commit to selling, it will be in the last week before the non-waiver trade deadline.

Godot became a Red Sox fan in 1919 ...
He died in September 2004.

Scott Lauber ?@scottlauber 13m FWIW, David Ortiz has been credited with a hit on contested scoring decision from last Wednesday #RedSox So MLB yelled at Otiz because?? Because it makes him look petty and small and more concerned about his own stats than that of his team's performance. While I don't believe Ortiz doesn't care about the team and while he's probably correct about the official scorer being wrong it's ridiculous for him to be so focused on an official scorer's call. Can you imagine if everybody complained every time they felt they got ripped off? I'm a huge Ortiz fan but I wish he'd have just taken the high road in this matter or complained privately and not so publicly. If you want to think "class" remember Armando Galarraga who had a perfect game if Jim Joyce the umpire hadn't messed up a call. The pitcher handled it with class and gained a lot of respect because of it.

Jumping on King Felix early...just the jolt this team needed, hopefully. Hoping we can run his pitch count up.
As an aside, Cano looking a bit slow range-wise on that Ortiz grounder.

"So MLB yelled at Otiz because??" ------------------------------- Torre wants to make a tabloid headline. All NY'ers do. Cheap shot.
And speaking of the big apple, does Betts meet the club there?
