How many days of rest does Workman have? Probably not fair to expect him to be sharp from the 1st inning. First outing in 12 days Nice job to get out of that jam with Tex/Beltran at the plate

This is Vidal Nuno, right - not Vida Blue. Sheesh. Just tossing salad up there.

With a 3 run deficit, I think I better go to sleep even when the opposing pitcher is Nuno. It's late in this part of the world anyway

Just when you think that this offense has sunk to a new low they take it to an even lower level. It has gotten to the point that I would rather watch American Ninja that watch these guys flail away against guys like Nuno who has been treated like a punching bag by the rest of the league. Pathetic is too kind of a word to describe how bad this offense is for the Red Sox. www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=b&team=BOS&year=2014

I have tried to hold out as long as I could, but this team is just pathetic offensively. I still want Lester re-signed, but I am now fully in support of selling off parts.

I hate to even say this. But, this team has been flat for so many games. That bum Oakland picked up. Tonight against my legion coach. The writers have mentioned that the boys were a little ticked at the low-ball offer to Lester. Weren't happy they lost 3 guys; Jacoby, Salty and Drew. They know we didn't even negotiate with Jacoby. Is this some sort of attitude problem. Front office didn't back us. Why should we back them? I'm 99pct sure that's not the case. But, there's no reason this team should be this bad.

On the bright side, 2:42 for Sox-Yankees! It's the small victories.

Tonight should have convinced the front office to wave the white flag on the season. If you put up a zero against Vidal Nuno then its truly time to be full selling mode.

But aside from that rambling coagulation of words and half sentences is anyone really upset by this team? Did anyone not realize that this was simply a calculated risk taken by the front office as part of a greater overarching plan to build the next great Red Sox team? Things are breaking poorly, but they all broke our way last year and resulted in a World Series Championship. I feel like half of this population needs to relax and accept that they can't win every year and sometimes need to risk being pretty bad in order to avoid being stuck in a situation like the Yankees are, needing to spend absurd money year in and year out to buoy an aging and degenerating roster of has-beens. Seriously, if you guys are still getting worked up over this squad, you're missing the theme of this season.

Should definitely win the first and third. And Lester in the new toilet is fun. I'm calling a sweep. You really didn't believe the Sox would sweep, do you? What team have you been watching all season? This year's Red Sox are wretched. The Yanks are no great shakes but for whatever reason they're finding ways to win games, somehow winning the winnable close games, and when all is said and done, they'll probably take the division, even if they're outscored. This year's Red Sox team has a good shot at losing 90 games.

The offense is so terrible. They don't knock anybody around, even the stiff the Yanks had on the mound tonight. Again, all I can say is thank you for 2013. The stench of Sept 2011, 2012, and 2014 are more than made up by the joy of 2013.
At 8 games under .500 this season, the Red Sox are a combined 202-202 since the start of 2012 over 2.5 seasons.

I bet we have an 89% chance of being no hit tomorrow, or perfectod I'd say the 2014 Red Sox offense is almost as bad as any Sox offense I've seen, although I think the 1992 Sox offense is worse. That offense had Mo Vaughn, who hadn't become Mo Vaughn yet and I think Greenwell missed most of the season, and Boggs had the worst year of his career while Burks struggled as well, and Jack Clark's offense collapsed. This year's team has Ortiz and Bogaerts and perhaps a contender for the batting title in Brock Holt. And beyond Napoli and a struggling Pedroia, absolutely nothing else.

Seriously, if you guys are still getting worked up over this squad, you're missing the theme of this season. The Yankees...for all the talking about how they manage their roster....are not having a bad year. That is with 60% of their start of the season rotation missing significant time. I hate the Yankees more than just about anyone...but the Red Sox struggles this season and the Yankee roster construction are 2 very different things. We are struggling because of the offense. It seems so long since that's been an issue..it seems foreign to me. I don't think greggglosserbelly's take should be so summarily written off. Your right about the future plan...but the guys we didn't give up have massively underperformed...and their may be a psychological component to that..besides just frustration.

Sweet. my favorite binky Jose Abreu hit homers #24 and #25 tonight. Too bad we didn't have an extra $10 million to get us over the hump on that contract. Oh wait, we did. And instead we wasted it on Stephen Drew.

Normally, if a team is contending, they trade prospects to add extra parts. If this team wants to contend, they should trade their extra parts, and call up the prospects.
Do they have a name for that? It's the "contend by rebuilding" strategery.

Seriously, if you guys are still getting worked up over this squad, you're missing the theme of this season. I'm not expecting to win it all or even make the playoffs every year. I applaud BC for not signing Jacoby to a crazy contract. But, sometimes the players who win a championship feel slighted when management breaks them up.

And instead we wasted it on Stephen Drew. Like Grandsalami said. Really. I wanted the Sox to get Abreu really bad but the timing was really screwed up. Put yourself back into Oct 23 - Oct 30, a time where Mike Napoli is a key player on a close knit team fighting to win a World Series. How good does it look if you're telling that 2013 team that no matter what happens and no matter what Napoli does, he's already gone. That would have caused controversial headlines that a team like that didn't need. Kind of like when Superbowl 31 was totally obscured by the obvious fact that Bill Parcells was leaving. The Sox didn't need that. If Abreu would have waited until AFTER the World Series to sign, THEN I would have a problem with the BoSox not getting him. It was rotten timing. The Red Sox got the ultimate prize and Napoli back for two years and the White Sox got the marquis player.
