@jjcoop36: Bickford is now 2-1, 1.77, 20.1 IP, 11 H, 6 BB, 40 Ks (4 GS). JUCO teams get started earlier than everyone else.
Struck out 13 yesterday in 5 IP.
@tedcahill: Virginia LHP Nathan Kirby vs. Marist: 5.1 IP 3 H 1 R 2 BB 9 K #mlbdraft
@tedcahill: Funkhouser's day ends as he hits 100 pitches in the fifth. 4.2 IP 7 H 7 R 4 ER 3 BB 7 K vs. Arkansas State. #mlbdraft
@kileymcd: Funkhouser has battled with his command but I can't feel my fingers or toes so hard to judge; 91-94 t95 as usual

Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd I'm told UCSB righty Dillon Tate was 95-97 mph w/life & easy plus SL in the 1st today. Hit 99 mph last summer here
Kiley McDaniel ?@kileymcd Buzz growing on Dillon Tate. Flashed good CH, holding 95. Its early but he's in top 5 picks right now, esp w/Matuella & Aiken durability ?'s

My fav hitter this year is Ian Happ. Went 3/5 yesterday with a double and is 2/2 today. He may not be the perfect profile but he can really hit.

What does that mean for Happ? If he can hit he can hit. No matter the class. His questions are more where does he end up defensively.
Edit: Tate's final line: 7 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 9 K, 2 BB

Not deep at the top for sure. Still there is Dansby Swanson who carries a lead off hitter profile from the SS position and I will be paying close attention to the HS field mostly focused on Trenton Clark of Richland HS.

Not really draft related, but college baseball and not really worth a new thread. Don't see too many walk-offs by stealing home. www.snappytv.com/tc/487363

I know you don't draft for need, but with few hitters in top 7 this year adding a pitcher to the system already awash in hitting seems perfect. Owens, Johnson, kopeck, ball, Espinoza and Acosta and the #7 works well with Bogarts, Betts, Swihart,Moncada, Devers, marrero, Chavis Rijo

Kirby, Buehler, Tate, Bickford, Allard > Swansby, Happ, Bregman, etc. Of course a lot can and will change between now and the draft, but as of now, I prefer one of those pitchers....

I know the board will change, and I know you don't draft for need. But there is a difference between drafting a pitcher because you need pitching and drafting a catcher because you need a catcher. Point is, the way the board looks now I'd bet on the Sox taking a college arm.

Is it crazy to think that Aiken could drop to 7?

Don't see too many walk-offs by stealing home. www.snappytv.com/tc/487363We've always had a College Baseball thread in the past. I don't think we've had a HS Baseball thread tho. It's the mods call. ADD: Nice to see Tate moving on up the draft board. I think we get a top pitching prospect this year. I hope it's not a two-sport project this time tho. The patience for another similar pick will be shorter for "fill in the blank" than for Ball. There don't seem to be any such prospects projected in the top 10 so we're safe

Is it crazy to think that Aiken could drop to 7? I know he doesn't have ideal size, but I've already developed a draft crush on Kolby Allard

Ashe Russell has a presence on the mound. Also like Hooper and Tate.

In BA's college baseball podcast released today, John Manuel said there is growing skepticism that Matuella can stay healthy (especially given the spine/back issue). He said his current draft prospect board would have a couple other college pitchers ahead of Matuella for that reason (mentioned Kirby, Funkhouser, and Aiken). He also compared Matuella's situation to Kyle Freeland last year, where teams were concerned with the medicals and didn't have an opportunity to poke and prod. It will definitely be an interesting storyline to follow over the next couple months, because if he is healthy he has the talent to be 1-1.

Is Kyler Murray a possibility at 7? Just started reading about him and seems like an interesting player. Would probably take a lot to get him away from his football commitment but could be worth the risk if he's as good as some say.

By the way getting Moncada means we're taking a pitcher at 7. Bank on it.

By the way getting Mondaca basically means it's a lock for a pitcher in the draft at 7. Nope

By the way getting Mondaca basically means it's a lock for a pitcher in the draft at 7. Why? They shouldn't change a thing. Take best player available. These guys are years away and have a good chance of never making it to the majors. You pick talent not needs.

I been spending the last ten minutes trying to edit my post. Just because I said there taking a pitcher doesn't mean there sacrificing talent and I stand by what I say.
