Hard to see Naylor falling to our second pick, and he's a reach at 7. Weird. Maybe we go under slot and Naylor falls due to asking price, but that's doubtful.

Sounds like a 1B-only who will need to hit his way to the majors...that will probably scare some teams off. His profile kind of reminds me of Rowdy Tellez a couple years ago.

Naylor is definitely is in the 2nd rd, 3rd round range to me so he could be available though that's not a lock as it only takes one team to want him.

Kiley McDaniel has us taking Benintendi in his latest mock. He said he Red Sox wish list is Swanson, Bregman, Tate in that order. Other options in his scenario are Fulmer or Cameron.
With everyone mocking us Benintendi, we'll probably take someone else now.

Second mock draft that has Fulmer available at #7, with an outside chance that Tate is also available. If we get one of these two pitchers I'd be very happy.

Kiley posted some video of Benitendi along with his mock. I love a good left handed swing and I love his.
Edit: Also, I would love to pop Mac Marshall in the third or fourth round. He transferred from LSU to Chipola JC before ever throwing a pitch there. The Sox picked two Chipola JC guys last year in Danny Mars and Ian Rice so...

I think Benintendis glove will determine a lot of his value. If he sticks in center he could be a very good player. I've also seen people question if he will adjust to wood bats well. Wish there were more thorough and recent scouting reports on him.

He's got plus speed so he really would have to have bad routes/instincts to not stick in centerfield.

I like what I've seen from him, but like you said the short track record isn't comforting.

From BA's latest update on him in their draft rankings (I forgot I had a subcription ):

Would like to hear more about Benintendi's arm, and whether RF in Fenway would be an option. Trying to warm up to him.
The secret plan of course is to have Xander and eight guys under 6'.

Finally able to read Laws full mock and noticed this from the Rays part. To me this reads as Josh Naylor is getting some mid first or earlier looks.

There is a reason players go to College get better and are high draft picks in 3 years and it's not because teams "missed" or something. Some players need that experience to reach their potential. Even Price struggled in his first two year, thought about quitting working at fast food restaurants in the summer then came back stronger and became the number one pick. Maybe had he sign he still would be what he is now or maybe struggling like that made him more determine. Nothing wrong with Hopper going to College and getting better. Probably some scouts agree with this as well. As far as the him being a possibility for the Red Sox it's simply not going to happen with the 7th pick. The reasons have already been outlined by posters here. And even legit high-upside, fairly polished high schoolers flame out or regress. Karsten Whitson...who looks like he may be getting some of his luster back...was the 8th overall pick by San Diego, went to college, and lost **his** 96 mph fastball. And he was much, much more polished than Hooper. Velocity means nothing without command...at least college pitchers have (if they're first-rounders) demonstrated the ability to command their pitches to some extent. Colt Griffin hit 101 in high school...and disappeared. I'm starting to think Benintendi might be one of those guys who hits like Kevin Seitzer...which isn't necessarily a bad thing if his other tools stay in the 50-60 range. I think we all dream on finding the next .330/.420/.550 guy, but I'm very happy with a guy who hits .300/15/80 (.300/.380/.440 or so). Plus, I hold out hope that he develops 20-hr power in his mid-late 20s. Still loving that BB:K ratio. And if he's a future 65 or 70 hitter, that's a valuable player and an excellent pick at 7. Jay is still my first (likely) choice, but I think Benintendi could move fairly quickly.

One upside about drafting Cooper is that if we don't sign him we would still get the 8th pick in next year's draft. I don't see next year's draft being as bad as this year's draft. So being in the top 10 allows us to take a signability player such as Cooper. I would prefer drafting and signing a player in this years draft. If we sign a player as good or better than Kopech I will be Happy. Kopech's looking pretty good...that may be easier said than done. Man, if he ever develops a change or a splitter, what a pick. Hitting 100 this year and flashing a pretty solid curve. Maybe Nikorak? I'm hoping Kopech's emergence (and Eduardo Rodriguez (What a game! What a heater!), Johnson/Owens) encourages the Sox to go max upside on a pitcher if they take one, even if it's a somewhat risky pick. I'd still be very happy with Tate, Fullmer, or Jay; Allard-I'd rather get Benintendi, though I think Allard has big upside.

If we let Tate get past us I would be sad.

I have a very hard time believing Tate could fall to #8, especially in this class.

I have a very hard time believing Tate could fall to #8, especially in this class. Why? I'd like to know your specific thoughts on Tate based on your scouting of Tate's delivery in recent weeks.

@jimcallismlb: Yes. Don't think he's lock to go top 5 like he was a month ago. "@infraren: decent chance Dillon Tate falls to @twins? @mlbdraft"

Callis/Mayo/BA chat summary re: top 10
ARI - Swanson HOU (2) - leaning toward Bregman COL - Rodgers or Jay TEX - hitter (Rodger, if he makes it, or Cameron, Bregman, if he doesn't) - also Tate HOU (5) - if they take a P, likely Fulmer; more likely another bat MIN - decent chance Tate falls here - also Bregman/Cameron/Tucker/Allard in play BOS - Fulmer would be best case scenario, since Bregman no longer a lock to land here CHW - Jay, if he gets there (likely doesn't), definitely college P (Tate/Fulmer/Harris) CHC - lots of Cameron chatter, also Benintendi/Buehler/Stevenson PHI - looking for someone who will move quickly
