According to the box (dubious), Diaz got the start yesterday for the DieselSox. Maybe Bautista today.
Haley's been a ground ball machine. Iirc, 19/1 GO/FO ratio last 2 starts.
Mike Antonellis ?@seadogsradio 6h Portland has tied a franchise record with 86 wins (’95 won 86)…three tries for a new mark. . . Top 3 career SeaDogs ERA: Johnson 1.75 Owens 2.43 Lester 2.61
All Red Sox, all lefties. For reference, Josh Beckett (Marlins) had a Dogs ERA of 1.82 but didn't have enough IP to qualify. . . Some Kieth Law chat stuff:
James (North East, MD) Good lord, did Eduardo Rodriguez have to pitch this good since being traded??? I did not want to feel regret for this trade until AFTER the current season is over.. Thoughts?
Klaw (3:12 PM) I have no idea why the O's gave up on him ... a year and a half ago they were raving about him as their sleeper prospect, and he hasn't done much to change that notion. The breaking ball has to improve, but the fastball/change alone should make him at least a back-end starter.
Chuck (DE) Is Derrik Gibson a prospect again?
Klaw (3:23 PM) He'll play in the big leagues, maybe for a few years, but I don't think he's going to be the everyday guy I once thought he'd be. Where the heck did his speed go? . . Just a thought on Haley (mine). I believe that if you were to go through all the game logs of his Portland starts, you would find an interesting anomaly. He gets a ton of ground ball outs yet, it seems like the greatest majority of the hits against him are line drives not ground singles. Not sure what, if anything, is the cause, maybe inconsistant sink ?

Re: Haley-- a lot of sinkerballers are like that. If they keep the ball down, guys beat it into the ground for easy outs. When they elevate the ball (whether because of poor location or inconsistent sink), it gets hit hard. Consistency is key for sinkerballers.
I also wonder about Gibson's speed, which has severely declined according to a few different reports. He's just apparently no longer the hyper-athletic guy he was a few years ago, which is a shame, because his bat has certainly improved since then, and he'd be a pretty great utility guy if he played a plus defensive SS (which I'm not sure he's capable of anymore) and was a plus pinch-runner.

I see him as an above average but not plus defender most anyplace you put him. What's more troubling to me is that he's in his 3rd year in the upper minors and has a .107 Iso. He's a singles hitter with average discipline that doesn't steal bases. When he was a ranked prospect, there was always hope that some degree of power would emerge but it hasn't happened. . . We have a real time DSL box. Sox up 2-0 3rd.

Good point about his power. I remembered him putting up more slugging this year, but it looks like it was still mainly BABIP/singles-driven.

According to the box (dubious), Diaz got the start yesterday for the DieselSox. Maybe Bautista today. Bingo. 4 IP so far, 0 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 0 K. Their first two runs came on sac flies, with Roldani Baldwin plating Carlos Tovar in the b-1st, and Gerardo Carrizales scoring Juan Hernandez in the b-2nd. They just made it 3-0 in the b-4th after a Luis Yovera triple and a passed ball.

DieselSox up 3-0 after in the 4th.
Lameda 2-2 has been the hitting star so far. He's 18, in his second DSL season, a RF and put up a .772 OPS during the regular season.
Bautista, a 19 year old in his first DSL season, put up a 1.03 ERA during the regular season. He's shutting out the opposition but hasn't recorded a K yet and wasn't a high K pitcher during the season. . 4-1 top of the 6th.
Reliever game for both teams. Bautista went 4.1 and left a runner on first who scored.
Lameda now 3/3 2B is hitting .500 for the series.
Does anybody know if these are the finals and how many games in the series ?
Royals making noise in the 8th. Sox still up 4-3 but Royals have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Ritzi on in relief of Shair.
4-4 bottom of the 8th.

Does anybody know if these are the finals and how many games in the series ? The semifinals are best-of-three. Sox-Royals is one of them. The Rangers #1 team beat the Giants two straight in the other.

Aybar triples in a pair for the D-Sox in the b-8th, and they retake the lead 6-4.

Ballgame. DSL Sox advance to the championship.
Algenis Martinez works past a 2-out walk for the save, with all 3 outs on grounders.
Sox will face the Rangers #1 team for the title. FWIW, they came back from 6-1 down with a 6-run 7th to win the clincher yesterday.

GCL has already forced a pitching change after 3 H & 2 BB in the first 2 innings. Guerra singled in Kemp in the t-2nd to make it 3-0 Sox, and Gean Batista relieves Austin DeCarr to start the t-3rd.
Meanwhile Dedgar Jimenez has retired all 6 batters faced with 3 Ks.

Interesting to note that Guerra (who so far is 5/8 with 2B, HR in the post season), has started at SS both games with Devers and Chavis splitting 3B & DH.
As noted, DSLSox won 6-4 GCLSox now up 3-0 top of the third.

I wonder how much of that decision is about getting Chavis to play more 3B (without sacrificing Devers' development) and how much is about keeping Guerra's glove on the field during the playoffs.
I can see them ultimately shifting Chavis to 3B full time as he fills out, with Devers moving to corner OF while maintaning his 3B flexibility.
Meanwhile in Tampa... 9 up and 9 down for Dedgar.

There's going to be a SS crunch down the road with Doubon at Lowell also in the picture.

MFY put three on base in the b-4th (2 singles, ROE by Chavis) but Jimenez escapes on a GIDP and a ground-out.

Tomorrow's Portland game is their annual Field of Dreams game (If you haven't seen pics, it's very cool). The corn has arrived: Almost as good as truck day.

Money is Guerra 4/4 now with 2 2B & 2 RBI. Batting .700 post season.
Sox piling it on, up 6-1 bottom of the 6th. Kemp with a solo.
Jiminez out after 5, 1R unearned.
6-1 after 6

Had great numbers last year in the DSL. Is only 18 and is huge. On the other hand, profile says none of his pitches project as major league at this point so, we'll have to wait and see what happens.
The profiles and prospect stature of the #2 thru #8 hitters in today's lineup are excellent.
MFY1 scored one, 6-2 after 7

Gibson seemed to be the fastest guy on the Portland team when I saw them earlier in the year, but he doesn't have an explosive start. When he gets going though he is clearly the fastest guy on the team.
He needs to do whatever exercises are appropriate for generating a more explosive start. I don't think he has lost his speed. I just think they guy will not be a big base stealer unless he gets better jumps and into a top speed mode faster. Look at a lot of the top base stealers. They are often more stocky than one would expect. That explosive start is huge.
Didn't Ranaudo have a better fastball in college, at least more MPH? Is he now throwing a 2 seamer more and working on his control more than MPH? I don't remember him topping out at 91.
