First meeting with the Yankees that didn't mean anything in September since 1993 for either team.

Jon, I see where you have Clay scheduled to start on Sunday. I saw a summary article from Tuesday's game that suggested that the game was the end of Clay's season. Now he'd be going on a regular 5-day pattern on Sunday, but is there any indication that the Sox might start someone else that day?

Red Sox website says Wright-Kelly-Buchholz.

There were also interviews with Buchholz where Clay talked about being excited about potentially being the last pitcher that Jeter faces.

I remember thinking to myself when the schedule came out how intense I thought this series was going to be. Here we are, no playoff implications.....it truly will be a Jeter circus.

Jeter will retire never having played on a losing team.

I've gotten as annoyed as anyone over the Jeter ball-washing that's gone on over the years, and I still consider him overrated, but his driving in the winning run in his last at-bat at Yankee Stadium was still pretty cool.

And I have no quibbles with him DHing every game either. If he desires his last game at SS to be in Yankee Stadium it's his right at this point.

Agreed. Very cool moment. Can only imagine what it was like there. But I do think the pitch was grooved... (and that this fact is mostly inconsequential)

I hate Derek Jeter.
I hate the New York Yankees.
Three more days then Yankee fans can focus on the man who truly embodies all that the Yankees are and have become - the Truest Yankee of them alll: Alex Rodriguez.

As much as I too hate the Yankees and Jeter....the end of this era is sad for me. The rivalry has lost a lot of intensity and its hard to see it coming back too soon given the current cast of characters. I guess you could say that I love to hate these guys.

I've been rooting for the sox to lose for draft pick reasons, but this the one team I just don't want to lose to.

The Yankees lineup tonight might be the worst line-up trotted out by any team the entire season.

I guess I am in the minority here, but I love Jeter. He has been one of my favorite major league players for years. He is a gamer and a tough competitor, but a good sport and a lover and respecter of the game. He and Pedroia would have been an incredible pair in the middle of the infield. So I am sorry he is done. I hope he appears in one of the two televised games that I get to see this weekend.
But I also am looking forward to seeing all these young and/or new Red Sox players.
I think next season is going to be a great improvement over this season for the Red Sox, but I don't know how the Yankees fix all their problems. They could have a losing season next year.
