Inexcusable performance by the offense today. Gutless. Too soon? It's never too soon!

Inexcusable performance by the offense today. Seriously, how could guys that have only been there a week and not faced live pitching in months not rake immediately? Bring back Bobby Valentine to right the ship. I want to know how two innings into your first game in months you pull an oblique muscle.

Ah, thanks for sharing. At least I can go ahead and renew BP right now. When did you receive that note from them? Minutes before posting it. In response to a follow up, she said they pulled the blog post about it because MLB's people asked them to until they actually had the discount codes.

No big surprises for the first lineup of the year. All going according to plan should be the opening day lineup.

From the Mayo report linked above, a BSOHL sighting for Brian Johnson: ...and describing what he thinks he needs to work on after the Minor League Pitcher of the Year award from the Sox: That sounds like the approach he's taken since he came into the organization. He's no dummy. I think he reaches the majors before either Rodriguez or Owens do. It wouldn't surprise me if he's the first call-up when the team has a need.

While I think Johnson could have the easiest initial transition if he were to be called up, I just don't think he's near the top of the line as he's not on the 40 man yet, and there are a couple guys (Barnes/Wright) that will probably get bumped up first. I do think that if it progresses to where it would be Johnson or Owens/Rodriguez, there's a very good chance they elect to cut one of the bottom relievers and put Johnson on the 40.
I'm still really high on Barnes, and assuming they aren't moving him to the pen, I think they'll give him every opportunity to take that step back up to elite potential level

...I still can't believe how big Ramirez's arms are. They look like legs...insane. No wonder he struggled at SS, he's huge. Here's Gammons on Ramirez:

During the broadcast and the between game show, some things I heard, no links and I generally don't know who said them.
As above, comments on Johnson's physique. He's always been big but never looked at all athletic to me. (But does look like an innings eater).
Cecchini and Barnes are getting good side comments from the coaches.
Rodriguez is making a major impression with pretty much everybody. A lot of WOWs.

On the right hand side of this MLB link, there are a number of storyline links and videos from the games, mostly regarding the pitching. m.redsox.mlb.com/news/article/111012998/blake-swihart-henry-owens-representing-stacked-boston-red-sox-systemPorcello: "Boston is the Mecca of baseball, there no other place you'd rather play" LOL, I think he meant Mecca is the Boston of middle eastern religion. . . . For the Hamels peeps: www.fangraphs.com/blogs/two-pitchers-overrated-by-both-era-and-fip/. . . BSOHL warning: John Tomase ?@jtomase 8h8 hours ago The Lean Monster: Hanley Ramirez is the most imposing player in Red Sox camp, and he's ready to flex his muscles. www.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/john-tomase/2015/03/04/hanley-ramirez-massive-and-red-sox-hope-his-mu … LOL Miley, he's beginning to sound like Spaceman2: "My goal was to pound him in so he didn't have nothing he could hit back at me," Miley said. "I wanted him to pull the ball. I just pounded him in, pounded him in, pounded him in. Just keep it away from me. I couldn't even tell you what the numbers were. I know I got him out a couple of times and he got some hits, but the important thing is, I didn't get hit."

I think Hanley is DONE as a shortstop. With the added bulk I don't see him working there except in a real emergency. Third is probably unlikely too. That probably means Holt and Marrero both need to stick around for the foreseeable future.
I hope Hanley can keep his speed with the new mass, but it hurts that he's really taken away any positional flexibility.

I've always looked at Hanley as Papi Insurance. We don't know how long the big fella can keep it up. But, we had no big bat capable of replacing him. I view Hanley in that role. I don't even care if he dh's after Papi retires. Hit 35 bombs and do what you want.

Has there been any news on Moncada, whether the signing is official or whether he's going to get invited to major league camp?

Was it the fact that we gave him $22m per year then immediately announced he was moving to LF? Or was it something else?

By then they may never wrestle Betts' outfield position from him!

I've seen Cano at SS and Middlebrooks at 2B for an inning, so although it's unlikely it wouldn't surprise me to see Han-Ram play a couple innings at SS, but I can't imagine him spending any meaningful time there. I think they would make a Herrera type trade before they consider Hanley moving to SS. He was signed for his high potential bat.

I'll be interested to see how creative the Red Sox get with shifts. As has been mentioned, they have a plethora of ground ball pitchers. They also have two natural infielders roaming the outfield. That opens up the possibility that in the right situation they could bring one of those guys in and go with five infielders.
