But you are failing to consider that Nick Swisher is worth ( $Allthemoney). Is this sarcasm?
Remember the people who thought he'd be a good idea for the Red Sox?

Remember the people who thought he'd be a good idea for the Red Sox? My god people. That's twice today that very obvious sarcasm was questioned. Let's all work a little harder to identify sarcasm without having to ask. Thanks.

He was always a plus defensive 1B. I do love seeing how much success he's having now (of course, wish it were for the Sox, but whatever).

I think most of us understood what the Sox were giving up in that trade, but it sure would be fine to have him playing in Boston. I hope they make it to the playoffs, there's so much good young talent on that team.

Of course, Chavo should know better when using the ProBoards app too.

That's the 2014 list. This year he pushed him up to seventh. www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2015-trade-value-the-full-list/I'd have him ahead of Sale because pitchers. And I think you could have him higher just based on that contract. Bryant and Harper are both going to get super expensive very soon. I didn't realize Goldschmidt was so cheap, and it's tough to beat three pre-arb years for Correa. So maybe 4th most valuable. It's team-dependant too. The Red Sox or Dodgers or Yankees would probably rather have Harper; the Rays or As might be more attracted to Rizzo.

This is Bryant's first year in the MLB, he's controlled to 2021, which is Rizzo's last option. Even if Bryant breaks arbitration records he'll still be pretty cheap over those 6 years (if he's breaking arbitration records it's because he is putting up good numbers). Side bar: I like to think about the abstract when I'm bored. One thing I thought about recently is what kind of team CHW could of put up ~ 2017-18 if they traded off all their pieces this season. 3 guys in the top 50 of value, + Shark. If they made the right deals for those guys they'd probably have the best farm system in the MLB. Doesn't always convert into MLB talent, but they'll finish 2015 with a sub .500 record. Go big or rebuild.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand how that is a legal catch? He is standing on the wall while making the catch. Does that mean an outfield can climb the outfield fence and stand on top of the wall to rob a home run? How is that allowed?

Am I the only one who doesn't understand how that is a legal catch? He is standing on the wall while making the catch. Does that mean an outfield can climb the outfield fence and stand on top of the wall to rob a home run? How is that allowed? Apparently weather right or wrong on where his foot was is supposedly a gray area as here was the call and the rule as written. Rule 5.09(a)(1) Comment (Rule 6.05(a ) Comment): A fielder may reach into, but not step into, a dugout to make a catch, and if he holds the ball, the catch shall be allowed. A fielder, in order to make a catch on a foul ball nearing a dugout or other out-of-play area (such as the stands), must have one or both feet on or over the playing surface (including the lip of the dugout) and neither foot on the ground inside the dugout or in any other out-of-play area. Ball is in play, unless the fielder, after making a legal catch, falls into a dugout or other out-of-play area, in which case the ball is dead. Status of runners shall be as described in Rule 5.06(c (3) Comment (Rule 7.04(c) Comment). As you can see, the rule does not specify what is considered the “out-of-play” area. Chances are that is delineated in each MLB ballpark’s official ground rules. In this case, the umpires got together and apparently decided that the top of the wall, like “the lip of the dugout,” is in-play. And the result was one of the most entertaining foul ball outs we’ve seen in a long time. www.totalprosports.com/2015/08/13/anthony-rizzo-jumps-tarp-catch-video/

The video I'm seeing shows him drive over the tarp to catch the ball. Doesn't seem any different from a fielder diving into the stands to catch a ball.

Really good pitching duel going on in the Arizona / Atlanta game. Miller has a no no in the 7th. Rubby pitching well for Ari.
Braves broke it up. No decision for Miller and Rubby.

From SB Nation Palm Beach 1, Fort Myers 0 The Palm Beach Cardinals were on the winning end of a shutout on Thursday as they held the Ft. Myers Miracle scoreless. Brett Wiley had two hits including his 19th double and his 31st RBI, the game winning score. Carson Kelly scored the lone run after his first triple of the season. That said, given that he's 23 and repeating the level (for reasons I'm not sure I understand - he was pretty good last year), I'm not thinking he'll be the one that got away or anything. And besides, not like that trade wasn't bad enough already.

We were so happy when it kicked in and he was good again.

It looks like the Chase Utley-to-LA deal either has happened or is going to happen tonight. I've made my share of jokes at the Phillies expense, but that team had a really exciting core in that 2007-2011ish run, and Utley was my favorite player in the group - and a better player than the two guys who won MVPs. He was also one of the first batters I remember seeing in the minors who had that "best player on the field" feeling to him, and that was at Triple-A so it was really impressive. In the first game I saw him he hit a couple balls out of Frontier Field in Rochester, one out onto the street, and it was like "wait, that monster is a second baseman?"
He had five seasons where he was in the top three in the NL for bWAR among position players, but he never was #1. I suppose that happens when you peak at the same time as Albert Pujols.
To me he has a slam dunk Hall of Fame case, but the road for middle infielders who don't date models and make stupid-looking jump throws is hard.

Just came across this little tidbit. Madison Bumgarner has 1.0 fWAR this year just for hitting and defense. He has a 118 wRC+ and is slugging .491 with 4 HR. His BABIP is only .333 which isn't driving all that. Thought that's kinda nuts.
Then I looked up best hitting seasons for pitchers and realized that's not even close to best in the last 25 years or so.
I wonder if agents and NL GMs put any weight on that when negotiating or determining value.

Mike Fiers no hits the Dodgers striking out the final batter on his 134th pitch of the night. He walked 3, all in the first 2 innings, and struck out 10. Congrats to him!
