Mookie won't be a super 2. He has 70 days service. Polanco who is pretty much the super2 benchmark has 103 days. I've never seen the Sox even rumored to be thinking about extending a player with 6 years control. Hope they go for 6+ 2 options. Yelich isn't either, 1 year and 69 days. Well the story isn't exactly news, just that they've discussed it internally. They haven't talked to Mookie's agent. I don't see anything happening this year.

Was Yelich going to be a Super 2? I assume Mookie would be. Haha I was pretty happy when I saw that this morning. Honestly I am a little bit surprised they are doing it before this season, but I guess they are really confident he's going to have an incredible season. Yelich has 1 year and 69 days of service time right now, so I think he might come up short of Super 2, not sure though. Edit: Haha everyone posted almost the same thing while I was looking up his service time.

The Sox are "interested" in extending him, well I'm interested in dating Kate Upton but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. Wake me when they have actually exchanged real numbers.

These two interested are in different ballparks. The Sox have the money to extend Betts, they have the channel to open negotiations, they have 6 years of exclusive negotiation rights to work out an extension. Until the story becomes official there is never a report that can guarantee something is going to happen, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't make for good discussion on a baseball forum.

Well, you've got rumors that the two sides are negotiating and then you've got rumors that one side thought about asking the other side something. Those are different stories.

Would the Jays really do this to a guy who hasn't been above A-ball? "Miguel Castro, RHP, Blue Jays — Nobody with the Blue Jays has actually said he’s on the team, but when you mention Castro to their field personnel, including manager John Gibbons, there’s a look that leads you to believe that once roster meetings take place in 10 days or so, Castro, 20, who has never played above Single A, is going to stay at the back end of the bullpen. He has shown high velocity (97-100 miles per hour) with good command during spring training." www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/03/21/time-for-baseball-expand-rosters/tARtvIe7GPGR9Bs7cfM8LI/story.html

It's pretty much what the Orioles are doing with Jason Garcia.

I don't see an issue with it. Especially pitchers, this may be the best he ever throws. There's no reason you need to hit every level.

It's really a "rented mule" kind of a thing with the Orioles. If it works with Garcia, great, they stole one from a division rival. If not, and Garcia flounders and is negatively impacted by the big jump, then they cut their loses and return Garcia to the Sox. A that point, the Sox get to see if they can salvage Garcia.

The only issue with it would be if they saw him as a possible starter who needs to work on his secondary pitches. He's apparently all fastball, so maybe that's all he'll ever be.

What's the board's thoughts on Hector Olivera? Perhaps they felt they got out-bid for Moncada and reallocated their resources to ensure they locked up their plan B?

What's the board's thoughts on Hector Olivera? Perhaps they felt they got out-bid for Moncada and reallocated their resources to ensure they locked up their plan B? He's probably above average hitting but just ok in the field. Given that he's 29 and has played 29 games in the last 3 years, I'm really glad to be staying away. That seems like a lot of years for a good deal of money. I don't know what the Dodgers are going to do with him this year since they have Kendrick and Uribe at 2B and 3B.
