STOP GOING TO ALLEN CRAIG. To be fair they announced the pinch hitter before the pitching change. But of course we all know Brentz should be on the roster instead of Craig in the first place.

Farrell seems to really like Craig for some reason. Luckily Ben can send him down and take that decision out of his hands.

I think the term "toast" implies being burnt....but this seems to the case irregardless.

Also as far as I know you can designate Craig as a PH, then after the pitching change immediately put in JBJ instead.

It's just god damn insane.
We score. Our pitchers immediately give up more runs.
I don't know why I even bother.

Has someone "proven" that pitchers' performances against a team is random? Please text Mr. Tazawa

This team is probably about right where people pegged them to be this year...except watching them is so much less entertaining and much more infuriating to watch than expected. Well don't forget that we are 11th in % of K's. That is a very important stat and much more relevant than ERA....which is meaningless. 14th in x-FIP.... 18th in Z-contact % 18th in SwSrk % And don't forget that this is SSS! Sure we have given up the most runs in MLB but that stat is so yesterday and totally misleading. Our organization and our most knowledgeable contributors live and breathe cybermetrics....the true science and cutting edge of baseball.... Get with the program. That is why we signed Porcello, Miley, Masterson, kept Mujica, kept Koji etc. Our performance to date is thus entirely irrelevant and a statistical anomaly. You wait. Go Sox!...You Unbelievers!

Way to bail him out over and over again holt. I'm not sure a single pitch from that AB was in the zone.

I turned to the Yankees game and saw yet another well pitched game by the Yankees. Meanwhile nobody on the Red Sox can consistently record outs. What a joke.

I think there is going to be a real battle between the Old Real School v the New Fake Skool this year on this website. The one's who have most to lose are the New Fake Skool's...IMHO. At some point the results will be tallied up by W and L....not peripheral stats. It's going to be interesting.

If Mujica gets DFA'd I'd chalk tonight up as a win.

Hanley's hit 9 HR in 78 AB now, or almost 1 every 2 games he's played to date. That's kind of good.

At some point the results will be tallied up by W and L....not peripheral stats. It's going to be interesting. This is hilarious. The results will be tallied up over a series of years based on regression to the mean and variance. Of course, variance will sometimes make it look like batting average matters, or that RISP is a thing, or that 0 strikeouts is okay since you still got the "W." But the "new school" is embraced largely around baseball because it is much more predictive of future performance than surface statisitics such as W-L, ERA, RBI, and BA. There is a reason that Arizona and Philadelphia, the two teams who refuse to embrace sabermetrics even to a small degree, are the laughingstock of baseball. Also, how presumptuous of you to label the "new school" as fake. You sound like a 3rd grader name-calling at lunchtime. The Red Sox have a winning record (though of course this has been helped by unearned runs). We lost a 3 run game because of John Farrell's mismanagement. The thing I am most concerned about is that John Farrell is ruining our pitching staff (along with the help of BABIP, which will regress to the mean so I am not concerned about that). We will make a trade or call somebody up from Pawtucket soon. Relax.

Missing the playoffs 5/6 seasons shouldn't happen with our payroll. If we keep Cheriington, we better get him a right-hand man who knows pitching. It's not worth trading for an ace when most of your staff isn't very good.
