In this corner - managed by the New Fake Skool - Rick Porcello - choose any stat that says he is better than he is. In the other corner - managed by Old Real School - Rick MyArmIsJello - 1-2, 6.00+ ERA, 90 million dollar anchor May the best man win!! What was that you were saying? Since you seem to believe so much in small samples and all. To the surprise of no rational person, Rick Porcello isn't a true talent 6+ ERA pitcher. You waited until the end of the game to crow!! Dude, it may be hard to believe but, it's all in good fun for me. I don't take any of this stuff seriously. And if you understood the context of the post and the last line...you'd read as though I was hoping for a Porcello win, either way.

Okay, I'm glad April is over. Hopefully this Porcello start, resets things and the luck people are 100% right and things do a complete 180 in May and beyond. I wouldn't get too excited about April ending. 12-10 really isn't that bad. We also have our longest road trip of the season starting next Friday, and it is of the West Coast variety. Well considering April was pretty much worse case scenario for our pitching staff...I'm absolutely happy it's over. Looking forward to the next month.

Koji returns, Porcello finds the tennor, and and great win emerges.
Now Masterson, Miley and Kelly will blank the MFYs.

It will be a slugfest. Time to pop the ballon on the MFY but I would prefer a better rotational position going into this series.

Nice win. On pace for 88 wins with the whole starting staff pitching below their proven track records. I'll take it.

Finally. A well pitched game by the Red Sox and particularly a starter.
I do believe that Porcello will get back on track as he did tonight and be a solid starter. I also think Kelly will have his ups and downs but he's also a keeper.
The rest of the rotation is meh. Buchholz will continue to tease and most likely not be back last year. Masterson certainly won't be. And Miley seems pretty lost out on the mound.
Eventually it will be a Tudor/Hurst/Ojeda situation with the 3 lefties knocking on the door.
It was also good to see Koji's fastball back up into the upper 80s. He needs that to have his splitter be more effective.

I just have to reiterate Hanley Ramirez has 10 HRs in his first month back with the Sox with one day to spare.
He is going to have a special special year with the bat.

First 10 homer month for Hanley since June of '08 - The only season he's ever exceeded 30 homers. If he stays healthy, he's going over 40 this year.

Just back in town. Nice to see that that they took another series, and it looks like Porcello had a really good day. His trajectory last year saw him really heat up from May on, before tiring in September. Hopefully, he's starting in.
If the team had one just one more win in April, they'd be on pace for 96. Small sample sizes work that way.

If you read this entire thread, it's impossible to believe they took the series. You'd think they lost 4 out of 3.
Hanley could get AL Player of the Month.

Good game by Porcello and Hanley is a monster. I hope Porcello set a tone with his performance. I am glad that Layne came back up. I hope the Cuban kid takes advantage of this. Some of this pitching was not fun to watch this month . I mean for one month I already saw some of the worst starts . I hope one of the kids in AAA really pan out and help Boston starting staff.
The lineup is awesome and we got nothing from RF and 1B.

Hanley could get AL Player of the Month. I think he'll come up just short, Nelson Cruz had a monster April. But that doesnt make HanRams' April any less awesome for us.

I fear that Fangraphs hiring so many new writers has led to the quality becoming somewhat diluted.

The rotation ranks 14th in FIP-, 12th in xFIP- and 10th in SIERA (league-adjusted).

Lol Hanley has 10 HRs and 0 2B/3B. His OPS+ is 172 with his BABIP at .233 so go figure. Right now he's his very own data point, the outlier supreme. Safe to say he's enjoying his days at Fenway early on.

I've never seen anyone with such consistently hard contact in a red sox uniform.

It is fun, though I would say Manny in his first four years with the Sox was similar if you were watching them. Jim Rice used to knock the crap out of the ball pretty good, too.
