Hanley's not the only LF that sucks at home.

Breslow in a tied game? That's a good way to tank.

I keep looking at the date on my computer in disbelief. Napoli and Breslow good in the same game? It just HAS to be July 2013....
Pricing new laptop now. Stupid thing.
Edit: Fixed now.

Mookie leads of the 9th and we get papi up and no runs. And breslow is sent out throwing meatballs. Do the redsox like have some kinda investment in breslow, like keep running him put there late maybe other teams will THINK he is a late inning reliever. Or a reliever in general

Back on the path to 90 plus losses, and playing the same .438 ball they played last year. They finally have reached 12 games under .500. It took awhile but I knew this team could do it. Now they need to catch the Rockies.

Now they need to catch the Rockies. If they'd just sell completely, put JBJ in RF and Owens and Johnson in the rotation (a la '89 Braves), and NOT trade anyone of value for Cole Hamels (ie not trade for him at all), they could evaluate their in-house talent, and maybe pick up the second overall pick. If they happen to play well because the kids succeed, they've built value for offseason trades. If they struggle, well, the kids took their lumps this year and not next...and they got the second overall pick.

At this point they should just play Napoli every day until the trade deadline in the offchance he gets hot and compels some team to toss a top-50 prospect at the Red Sox to acquire him.
Gimme a hundred losses.

The only thing worrying me is that our younger players get to used to play non-competitive baseball. Then again, that didn't hurt the royals, the cubs or the Astros to much...

Lost in the gloom is the fact that Hanley is starting to show signs of adjusting out in LF. I thought last night was easily his best defensive night of the year - he was actually making decent reads and going after balls, as opposed to... whatever he was doing before.
I didn't expect him to struggle this much out of the gate, but I've maintained that I still think there's an acceptable defensive player in there somewhere. He'll always have his Manny moments where his head isn't in the game, but he's too athletic to be horrible unless he just doesn't try to improve, and I've never bought the narrative that he's lazy or whatever. You don't have a body that looks like that if you aren't willing to put in some work.

I still genuinely believe that it's going to take him at least a full season plus up to another half-season to really get comfortable out there. I think when he does, his whole game will elevate. That said, I am not averse to them trading Napoli and putting Hanley at 1b, and Bradley Jr in the OF, preferably RF.
