Was looking forward to watching the game after I got home. Lol, I should have known better with Porcello pitching! Really thought he was in the midst of turning a corner.

Credit where credit was due. That was damn good pitching by Breslow to get out of that inning.

Not sure who to be pissed at more. Butterfield for getting another runner gunned down or Sandoval for being a fat s*** who can't score on a ball that rolls to the wall.

The 2014 was disappointing because they were the defending champions and this one was a high payroll one with big FAs signees...Really hard to choose between those abominations :/

Well one thing is for sure there will not be a performance drop off on the back end of the Porcello contract.

On one hand, this year, the underperforming players have been veterans signed to long-term contracts who will be around for a while. But is that worse than last year, when the underperforming players were young players who we expected to be the core of the franchise? Hard to say.

But is that worse than last year, when the underperforming players were young players who we expected to be the core of the franchise? Hard to say. Considering that Bogaerts and Bradley have both had great years, and that there doesn't seem to be a way out, I'd say this year.

Porcello is such a loser. Young, paid, playing in The Show: I'd say NO.

I hate to say anything, but this franchise looks as if it may be playing and spending itself into a box canyon for the next few years at least. We may either have to sell the farm for some legitimate players, or take lumps with youngsters.
Of course, if some of the injured youngsters/mid-career players come back and perform to historical/expected levels we may be OK. But this latest spending spree may really have hampered the team for awhile. In a few years some of that money will probably still be on the books for who knows what level of performance, and the good young players will be getting a lot more expensive. Plus, if the franchise can't turn itself around in a few years some of the youngsters will likely leave for greener pastures, performance wise.

We'd be better off developing guys like Owens and Rodriguez than selling them away.
Carrasco? Sure. Gray? For a reasonable price. But we're better off building a contender internally than trying to sell of our prospects to compete in 2016.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned anywhere, but with yesterdays loss John Farrell fell below .500 as Red Sox manager.

But we're better off building a contender internally than trying to sell of our prospects to compete in 2016. The issue is not all prospects are going to turn out. Sure it is nice to envision a roster in 2017-2018 of C - Vazquez/Swihart 1B - Pablo 2B - Pedroia SS - Xander 3B - Devers LF - Betts CF - Margot RF - Bradley SP #1 - Rodriguez SP #2 - Owens SP #3 - Johnson SP #4 Porcello SP #5 - ? However the odds of all those guys panning out is highly unlikely and if they did that they would probably misevaluate on some and be stuck with black holes who have limited trade value. It comes down to the impossible science of sell the prospects you think won't reach the potential for established players and hope the prospects don't hit the ceilings and attempt to keep the guys who will reach the ceilings. Obviously much easier said than done.

I wonder how much money we'd have to eat to trade Sandoval?
Probably all of it at this point. Just sad.

Napoli now .379 / .438 / .793 in his last 32 PA. Some team would be smart to trade for him, even if they only need a bench bat.
